So lets get this straight.. Our commander names are no longer unique?

World of Tanks?

Seems like the kind of thing to read there.

10x worse than that. Battlestar Galactica Online: My secret shame. :D

Ah and there are those who think this forum is toxic...fairly sure if hes not already here, several of his clones are. Sadly I still dont miss that old forum...fer better or worse, this game appears to have gots its hooks into me...thought there was an air of familiarity about yer name...new game new battleground old history and all that ^

Figured you already you knew who I was, my Commander name has been in my sig over there for about 6 months. Still at the top of the rep table and I only post about once a month now to troll the devs. Even that is boring these days.

The chances of that are so low...I'm hysterical over the fact that you are getting worked up over this lol

I'm not getting worked up over anything. I made a post to ask the question since it came to my attention and I sought clarification. I was always under the impression our names were unique to the game since its all that identifies us to one another and we share one gameworld even if we are seperated by instances and platform.

I think its a bit silly and confusing if this is not the case. Is it the end of the world? Of course not.

I'm more surprised about the over zealous replies, white knighting and trolling from folks who want to defend Frontier with their last breath. If people really don't care why are they bothering to post in this thread?

FD CAN'T CONTROL XBOX NAMES.
Is this categorically true? Do Microsoft control their platform so tightly that FD couldn't even have had the game allocate a custom string to the player's character and display that in place of the GamerTag? Or is the restriction to do with integration with Achievements and other Xbox-specific features?

I'm genuinely curious about this because I know nothing about how the Xbox ecosystem works. It would certainly open a can of worms if by some miracle FD gave us multiple CMDR slots as was discussed back in the day. It would be a Mac/PC-only feature, and would no doubt ruffle a few Xbox feathers.

Hell, maybe this is one of the reasons FD don't want to do multiple slots.

Impossible because it would be already taken.

There are over 48 million people on Xbox live lol No GT is the same.

So I just had an epifany...epipahamy...wonderful revelation. Could I possibly be one of a very select few who have the exact same tag in both formats?

Limited edition...shiny

Because calm and reserved as you try to be in this particular reply, you weren't in previous ones. And anger has a tendency to make people reply in a similar way.
Dragging in terms like 'white knighting' and 'trolling' don't help either. Just saying.

How very patronising.

Cosmos raises a valid point, and is entitled to express his opinion, as are we. This was a "feature" sneaked in. Not announced and would have been heavily criticised if it was proposed beforehand.
Yeah by people who are five years old maybe.

Heheheheheee

Seriously though, now that the Kick-starter rubbish is dealt with, can this thread come down in intensity to its proper place as a simple curiosity yet?

Seeing both sides of this one but ultimately unique names are preferable, really.

On the upside .. xBox and PC servers being separate, would seem to make it possible to build in "some sort" of unique identifier (hmm, thinking ...). If the dbase does find any doubles, sounds like either PC users might get asked to be magnanimous or .. the two Commanders get to fight it out in CQC, winner takes all?

Messy. But one heck of a livestream.

Awhile back Sony and Xbox announced plans to integrate the two platforms so that Playstation players could interact with Xbox players and vice versa. I'm not sure if the PC was on that list, but it's possible. If that's the case, whenever that becomes fully realized, Xbox players may be integrated into the PC portion of the game since Frontier will have to follow Microsoft's licensing criteria.

Edit - Found one of the news articles about it that also mentions the PC.

I'm not the one being an creating forum accounts to troll other members. So kindly go find a tall building and leap of it. ;)

Yeah.. reporting posts isn't my thing, but this thread should have probably been shut down after that particular one.

*edit* Yeah I really feel I have to add this: if something having to do with a computer game makes you wish people jump off of tall buildings, you should maybe take a step back and think about what the hell you're saying.

Rubbish, ED was concieved as PC game. So I'm out exploring and come across a system I have yet to visit, only to find that I have actually visited it, because its got my name on it, even though I've never been there before.

OUr commander name identifies us in the game.. This is idiotic. [wacko]

100% Legit point

Names should be cross platform unique since first discoverys are also cross platform

Well since you're likely 100% correct and FD can identify them as Pc or XB in the db, why can't they just apply a filter to the query and only display PC first discovered by tags on PC and Xbox first discovered by tags on Xbox?
