my vr experience with deepoon e2 - chinese dk2 clone - vr for £201

Hello,

I'm in the same situation as robertoop.

I already studied all post in this thread and I am able to get the Deepoon in the DK2 Mode and in Oculus Home it showed as "Connected"
But the Deepoon itself stays with his red LED light.
First i tried it with a Windows 7 OS but later i did a fresh install for Windows 10 and used System restore points to get rid of the drivers.

Has anybody a golden tipp for me to use the Deepoon? [cry]

System:
Windows 10 x64
Oculus Home 1.5
Deepoon Assistent 1.4.0.3

Hi, thanks for your response, my oculus home shows the deepoon conected, but the deepon screen is always showing a black screen, and the led of the deepoon is always red, (if i use it on deepoon mode, the light is blue and i can see only a deepoon screen) , i didnt knew that the Deepoon could be turned off, once i tried pressing the button 13 seconds, the light changed to purple , but if i press de button another 13 seconds it chages to red again, so to turn it off i just have to press de button for 5 seconds?

The LED staying red means it is on standby and the sensors are online, but it doesn't receive a signal. Blue means it's on and receives a signal via HDMI. If the LED stays red when opening Oculus Home, it means Oculus Home isn't sending a signal through the HDMI cable. What occasionally happens to me is that the LED turns blue, but the screen won't turn on (in which case you have to turn the Deepoon off and back on again).

Do you have the Deepoon Assistant running when starting Oculus Home? Some people have reported it makes no difference for them, but then again there are some people like me who mustn't start the Deepoon Assistant to get a signal.

Last but not least, please note that when the LED is red, you don't know whether it's turned off (you pushed the button) or whether it's waiting for a signal. When you turn it off with the button, the Deepoon won't switch to blue, even when a video signal is received. The Deepoon saves the state it was in even when you unplug it, so if you didn't pay attention, there is no way for you to know anymore whether the Deepoon is awaiting a signal or whether it's completely shut off. The Oculus Software can tell you just this though. When the Deepoon is turned completely off, Oculus home will show "Error" as device state. If it is awaiting signal, Oculus Home will show it as "Connected", no matter whether it's actually sending a video signal to the Deepoon or not.

I hope this wasn't too much info at once, I may have gotten a bit too detailed and confusing there...

Hello DragoCubx,

thanks for the fast response.

I can see i the Oculus Home Software that the HDMI connection will be drop if I press the Power Button and it comes back if I press the Button again.
So that is working^^
But everytime I open Oculus Home, it is asking me "You like to setup ypur Rift?" I think he is doint it, cause ithe Deepoon will not recognize in the setpu process where it checks the HDMI and USB connections.

I have an device called "Rift DK2" in my Devices with generic Microsoft driver. I think it is the devices i uninstalled during the Oculus Home installation.

Thanks again for your help, i will make some experiments to see if it is on or off , and to se if changes something if the assistant in opened or not, if it doesnt work i will reinstall without conecting the device from the begining

Frozzty what is hapening to me is exactly the same that your is happening to you in your images.

Hey, ein Deutscher :D

In the device Manager Screenshot you provided, you Deepoon shows as "Deepoon Application Device", not as "Rift DK2" as you wrote. I am actually not entirely sure as which of the 2 it should show, let me have a look when I can later today.

Other than that, everything is looking fine, you can ignore the "Set up your Rift" message, you can't complete the setup with the Deepoon.

So, when you connect the Deepoon and Oculus Home shows it as "connected", the LED on the Deepoon stays red, did I get that right?

Hi, i tried too, when i press the off button, the oculus home detect the usb but not the hdmi, when i turn it on the oculus home detects the hmdi again, but the led is always red, i made some experiments using the deepoon mode(with the led in blue) in that mode, windows detects the deepoon as a second screen and if you put something in there you can see it in the glasses, so the hdmi is working correctly.

In the Device Manager the deepoon controler looks like that, but in tthe printer and devices (or something like that, i dont have windows in english) it is shown as rift dk2.

Im starting to belive that the problem is that the oculus home 1.10 doesnt install all the correct drivers for the oculus until the conections of the usb and the hmdi are detected during the setup, so in our cases the problem is that the usb and the hdmi are never detected as at least in that moment, so the original drivers are never installed, afther that the deepoon assistant installs the deapoon drivers and the deepoon is recognized, but as the display driver of the oculus was never instaled, the display of the deepoon never recive the signal in dk2 mode, in the cases of other people that 1.10 is working for them, i belive that is becaose they used before a previous version of the oculus home, that instaled the display drivers and when they use 1.10 the drivers are already there, but it is only a theory

Maybe first installing Runtime 0.8 and afther that installing Depoon assistant 1.3 should work in windows 7, for steamvr use, but i dont have windows 7 installed, so i want to try all the methods first before having to go back two windows 7

If you suspect it's the drivers not being installed: They are installed during the installation of the Oculus Software, but not automatically. You absolutely mustn't go afk during the installation, as it will prompt you to install several device drivers at different points during the installation. Same goes for the Deepoon Assistant installation.

If you didn't go afk during the installations and confirmed all driver installation prompts, the problem isn't that the drivers are missing, as they'll be installed regardless whether your Rift/Deepoon/whatever is plugged in or not. It will alsways try to install all the drivers for all devices.

Hello and thanks DragoCubX,

i found the problem and mb it's the same solution for robertoop.
I had to deactivate the internal graphic chip my motherboard.

After its deactivated the Deepoon E2 was switching to its blue light and worked fine.

Now I have to figure out how I can use it with Steam VR. There I have only a gray sceen.

Hi, i made some experiments and i had it working for some instants even in steam vr using oculus 0.8 but in fact it was an accident playing with the drivers so when i restarted everything went wrong again, i will try the installation, turning off the internal graphic chip too, i belive that for steamvr maybe osvr can help, but i will make some experiments today.

OSVR doesn't help, when I had issues with SteamVR (different one, not the one you're experiencing), the OSVR version wouldn't even recognize the HMD as connected, so I don't suggest trying it.

When starting SteamVR, I get a grey screen too, but as soon as I start a game, the health & safety warning turns up and after that I can play just fine. Have you tried just starting a game in VR mode during the grey screen yet?

Hi, i turned of the internal graphic chip and finally it worked, thanks DragoCubX and Frozzty, and about using steam vr , i managed to use virtual desktop play Project Cars and Elite Dangerous, Project Cars and virtual desktop worked just by chosing the oculus option, for Elite Dangerous at first i could only see a gray screen , so i runned the Steam Room configuration assistan and after following the steps(You will apear in the floor of a virtual room because the deepoon cannot detect your height) , i finished the assistant and after that i can play ED, i hope that this can help you Frozzty

Good to know that you now actually see something in the SteamVR calibration setup. Last time I had to use it, SteamVR wouldn't show anything on screen (though it doesn't really matter tbh)

Hi! i found a solution about gray screen in SteamVR and HTV Vive games. This problem only for Razer Hydra users (who want play in HTC Vive games over SteamVR).
Solution there http://bbs.deepoon.com/read.php?tid=7386
You should download file deepoon.rar. And you should switch helmet from DK2 to E2 mode. And it works!!!

Also more information in russian site http://vk.com/deepoon
Just use google chrome with translation module.

And someone heard about new deepoon E3? In march 2017.

Hey VTS,

sounds like great news! Can you elaborate a bit on what this does and how you install it etc.?

If I understand it correctly, the E2 now finally works in native E2 mode with SteamVR? And to get that working, you have to download that deepoon.rar and somehow install it?

As you see, I'm not exactly sure what all this means, but if my assumption is correct, this could be big news for me! I hate the Oculus Software, it keeps messing with my GPU clocks and randomly crashes, so getting rid of it would be awesome!

hey hey hey hold on a minute! can i just get rid of oculus software? did you try dcs on steam with only deepoon drivers? does it work with every steamvr game?

cause that would be great. but i need some confirmation before trying. 1.50 gb download of oculus software will give hard feelings after uninstalling it. ugh cant beleive they didnt relase a downloadable setup file so far.

the f12 thing is normal, the game needs to centralise itself to your position its exactly the same with my rift.. turn it on and press f12 to center everything. The galaxy map isnt that hard once you learne how to use it, bind your hotas keys to the controls and your away. never had to look at my controls, you get used to the buttons and where they are. i can even touch type while in VR so dont need to look at the keyboard either.

Hi,
Are you playing the Steam version?
I also have a Saitek X52Pro HOTAS but ED doesn't recognise it when launched via Steam Library.
Works ok if launched outside of steam but can't use VR (PimaxVR) if not launched via Steam.
Works OK if using XBox360 controller.
Any ideas?????

Cheers,
Luke

Is the driver for the X52 you are using up to date?

It may also worth trying to unplug all other controllers you have (e.g. your XB360 Controller) and see whether that changes anything.

Small update from me, after updating the Deepoon Assistant to version 1.5:

- I was able to install it in English. Since I don't remember having that option in previous versions, I thought I might note it.
- I could not get SteamVR to recognize the E2 when in Deepoon mode.
- When having both Oculus Home and Deepoon Assistant open at the same time, the HMD was receiving video signals from both, resulting in some crazy flickering.
- As SteamVR cannot be opened without Oculus Home running/autostarting, your only choice is to close the Deepoon Assistant before you can use the E2 properly. Note that the Deepoon Assistant can stay running in try though, it just shouldn't have a window open.

Not sure if any of this is new to anyone, just thought I'd say all this.
