Newcomer / Intro Hate this stupid game

I'm not quitting. Kkronnoss is too good of a friend. If you get a chance to fly with him, count yourself lucky. If he's had you in his crosshairs, I am sure you didn't fly home safe. :)

I did do the tutorials, three times for the docking one.

I don't play with sound. I have zero interest in listening to a game. If that's your thing, good for you. If the game expects me to listen, it should make clear that it is a requirement. Played DDO for years and never needed to listen to it.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, those who did so.

To those elitists who think a game is something other than entertainment ... when I am looking for a challenge I do something in the real world: stay at home parent, learned a second language, first ascents of mountains, volunteer work on ending violence against women (I'm a man), masters degree. Gaming is entertainment. Don't fool yourself for one moment that it is not.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. if it helps, I've given you some rep for giving us a good laugh. This game is a disaster if you don't know what to do or how to do it. There's loads more things that will catch you out in the future, but don't get mad, just figure out what happened and ask here on the forum. Spend as much time as you can watching the beginners videos on Youtube. Once you get the hang of things this game is very good.

Don't worry about getting blown up at the moment, just use it as training. When you've got the hang of things, do a reset and start again.

Forget about the starter mission they offer you. That's just for training. The quickest most reliable and fun way to get some money and progress is to go to LTT 15574 or Aphra, fly to the high resource extraction site and help the feds kill the bad guys. There's a good video here that shows you what to do, but my advice is to wait until the bad guys have low % hull before firing a shot. it's very safe there. Nobody will shoot you unless you shoot first. Do not shoot anyone until you see "wanted" on the bottom LHS of your screen after you target them.

You've just described my first hour of the game. But, you get used to it. You have to learn how to play within the physics of the game, and yes it's infuriating until you start to understand how the missions work, and the maps, and the planets, and the suns, and the npc, and, and, and.

It sounds to me like you may not have played any flight sims, that would help.

(Oh and I have to add, come here with any questions, these folks are incredibly helpful.)

E: D is like learning on how to ride a bike (but once you've gotten rid of those stabilisers it will be second nature.)

He said he landed in the tutorial, so he did...
The new voice-guided tutorials specifically tell you in which direction to land (also with a written description on the Comms screen).....unless the OP is referring to outposts for which we can help in providing assistance/answering any questions.

EDIT: Didn't realise till after my reply that OP had also replied. My apologies.

I strongly recommend you listen to sound when playing ED. For two reasons:
1. The sound effects are one of the really best parts of the game. Well constructed and complex. a joy just to listen to.
2. They provide a lot of feedback as to whats happening in the game. Playing without the sound is tying a hand behind your back.
Oh and keep trying and suddenly all these problems will seem easy.

Don't despair, OP! The game has a huge learning curve. Keep at it and you'll start to enjoy it. And don't think you have to do the boring stuff to start some pew-pew action! You can go straight into combat in your starting ship, as long as you target the right ships, in the right locations!

One word of advice: don't measure another man's wheat with your bushel. You might think gaming is solely for entertainment purposes, another man might see opportunity for friendship in it, or a way to retreat from immediate problems, or a story that is inspiring, or a lesson on itself. Just like someone might think ascending mountains is a waste of his or her time, or learning more languages is a fruitless effort.

That being said, I wish you the best of luck in this game and any other. The community is helpful enough if you're willing to ask for it.

everyone when they first started had to experience the learning curve, once past it, I guarantee you will look back and laugh. I also recommend sound, I have played since release and I can tell you for a fact that the sounds you learn are important, from the stations to the bird sound of a new found earthlike to the water bubbling sound of a water world or the roaring of a large ship passing by, don't deprive yourself of an immersive environment that just waiting to be discovered...

When I first got the game I tried playing it with a keyboard and mouse, before my first hour was up (before the refund period was up) I promptly told Steam I wanted my money back.

It wasn't for another 4 months or so that I bought the game again and tried again with a joystick and managed to get the hang of it. 700 hours later I'm using a HOTAS and flying a Corvette, however I still use a docking computer because I simply cannot be bothered with landing myself.

I spend enough time guiding the ship through pointless jump screens and around suns, I do not need to be fiddling about landing it at stations too!

brand new and already complaining on a thread.....there are plenty of commanders here that could answer questions. That's right you didn't have any. You had a bad experience and figured you would create a post and tell everyone about it. You know what? I DON'T CARE !

A bit harsh, but true. OP, we can help you with anything (if you listen, which is something you're apparently not too keen to do). Problems you are having bothered hundreds of commanders before you and there are easy solutions.
So if you have questions, ask away. We're happy to help.

If you don't have questions and only came to complain, I am reporting the topic to mods, because I don't see a reason to have a thread named "Hate this stupid game" in the forum section where we welcome and help new commanders.

Bit late to this now 3 page thread from yesterday.

I can only say what others have said and there will be a "click" moment where you can fly reliably and start to make money and suddenly realise you've been working your way to a new ship and are sucked into the game.

The only advice I can give in the lack of specific questions is youtube videos, if you get time on a train or during a lunch hour or whatever then hit up a few "tutorial" sounding ones like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlwXQzQ0EE8
Find a youtuber you can listen to without tearing your ears off and watch how/what/where they fly, try to get a feel. It'll improve your early understanding of flight massively.

Yes flying in this game seems hard at first, I would suggest a HOTAS joystick normally but considering you arn't currently enthused that's a bad idea as it's putting more money into it. It will come, it's more than possible to do well with m&kb or controller. If you haven't already try remapping buttons (fair warning there's a lot) but it's worth it to have a layout you can understand and remember. Also if you haven't (and are on kb+m) then activate the "mouse widget" makes flying easier.

Finally the whole landing timers, just a bit of back-ground on why they exist:
1) Players

Thats it. We as players are generally "male chickens", we'll do things deliberately silly to annoy others. In this case getting a few friends and requesting docking permission to all the pads then sitting outside the station indefinitely so no one can land. Or they sit inside with no timer to worry about and attack people leaving the station.
Trespassing - Again players found they could block access to stations by sticking their ship in the mailslot or over an occupied pad preventing the player sandwiched between them and the station from leaving.

Most things in game do have a reason for being there, even if it's unclear at first. However, that directional docking pad issue is just insane, I fully agree. :p Video tutorials do show the exact way to land though. It may not explicitly tell you in game but it shows you.

Finally your friend recommended but didn't come meet you and show you the ropes? For shame! :)

There are a few issues with missions at the moment but i believe these are being worked on and we should see some improvement "soon" :)

It is frustrating us all as it has a meta affect on the game but it's good to know FD are working towards a solution.

But there's nothing stopping you flying to another station.

He lives in Canada and I live in Australia. We're both busy guys so haven't had much of a chance to get on at the same time together. Still, i do feel a real sense of ownership that i recommended ED and he's had such a poor first experience. :(

I did message him to try and organise a catch up this weekend for some lessons/intro/guidance. Might try planetary landings and SRV shenanigans... [wacky]

I would suggest a different attitude to the game to start with.

I just spent the first two weeks landing and pratting about. I just wanted to improve my docking and ship control. Took me a long time to even work the thrusters - I used to try and land without them! Reset my save four or five times.

It paid off. My control of the ship was very good, and allowed a prolonged period of growth without rebuy. Had I skipped this and got an auto dock asap, I would have missed out on learning the fundamentals.
