The Star Citizen Thread v5

The post was finished with "progress" in question not taking in the fact that in game development average time and the amount of time spent on new technology developed by CIG. (Cry Enigine 64bit) Maybe more disingenuous but the point is the same.

Maybe you could just try 2 of the big graphy picture things?

Is there more than 1 star system completed?

Is there more than 1 of the 6 "essential features" implemented. Note the question isn't are those features essential - it's is more than one of those 6 features implemented.

Feel free to consult the hive if you're not sure.

I feel thirsty. Got a lot saltier on here for some reason. ;)

Traditional Christmas truce is due sometime soon - gotta get that stuff out there asap!

:D

I have not questioned the validity of the graph, I only offered some context to it.

Yeah... no experience whatsoever:

Sorry I don't discuss goon related material outside of SA as I'm from the opinion that "pigs should keep their playtime in the mud" and not bring it "outside".

For sanity sakes [big grin]

CIG has so much experience it only appears like they don't. :D

Rockin like it's 1996....(it is literally page 1996 in this thread I mean).

I think we can all agree on disagree that some people are still willing to give SC a chance. And there are people who are not. Each project has it's supporters and detractors, however objectively project struggles to release content it has promised at various stages, or give equal ensurances it moves at right pace to hit new targets set in place. Whatever it spells doom on CIG venture or not remains personal opinion.

Can anyone describe how the flight model has changed? It is one of the things I would have installed SC again for (other than a Sq42 slice/demo/beta)

Tony Zurovec - A literal nobody, did some forgotten games in the DOS era, quit the industry in 1996. (This guy is the PU director...)

I feel like I have to intervene here... That's uncalled for, Ultima VII and its expansions are NOT some forgotten game.
And so is Ultima 8 (for all it's distance from previosu titles was still an amazing feat and so was Crusader.

Credit where credit's due. Those were just great. And I not only played them but bought them ORIGINAL! :D
Great games- mark them.

That said- Not really sure his experience can be related to this project.

They slowed the top speed but left the acceleration and turning the same. So its now the Asteroids 3D like CR described it when AC launched.

They struggle with it, as reactions were mixed at best (all ships felt the same, still turrets in space feel, etc.). However last few PTU updates have changed it again so it is not quite clear where it stands now.

Even in individual experience this "team" is sorely lacking.

Honestly I swear nobody trying to flaunt the experience of CIG's public figures ever looked them up.

I'll be ever so slightly fair here, and suggest that CIG may actually have some relevant experience on board, but that it will never be flaunted. Taking CCP as an example, the guys that did the truly revolutionary stuff — much of which hasn't really been surpassed in the decade and a half since — were complete unknowns. The maths wizard who figured out how to create a world sim that could handle the kind of large-scale battles they wanted for the game wasn't really made public until years after he had left, and the back-end DB gurus that made the rest of the game work were just a couple of silent guys in the background in a couple of videos. They had one guy with the (apparently) strange combination of knowing the deep code wizardry and also having an interest in interacting with the community, and who consequently shot to immediate stardom (before being sniped by Riot Games) once they started rolling him out on stage, but that's it.

So it's not so strange as one might intuitively feel that the public figures don't have the experience you'd want and need. Those skills are found behind bushy beards hidden in some out-of-the-way closet.

Still, that's the experience that you'd actually want to see them flaunt: the network and DB guys without which the game is completely .

Pff. Only if you haven't set a more sensible page length, like some kind of forum nubbin. :p
It's page 599 over here.

Yeah, I like the way it all starts with something someone other than CIG made.

By the way, doing the "oh but they are making 4 games at the same time" thing was old two years ago and it hasn't become any more of a valid excuse for the current state of things, it just shows how daft the whole thing is. A new software company would concentrate on just the one product rather than amateurishly biting off way more than they could chew. [weird]

I gave you the courtesy of watching that. Am I mistaken or was there anything at all in the 2016 show-reel that is playable by any citizens in any Avocado/PTU/PU setting?

Otherwise it looked like "here is all the shiny stuff from 4 years ago that we culled; here is the new shiny stuff we haven't implemented yet..."

It's a mish mash of implemented art assets. No completed gameplay loop, nothing. At this point, at such delays CIG projects face you will need way more than that.

Afaic there's only two logical conclusions:
1) The CIG-maintained and unverifiable funding chart is
2) There's a core group of backers that just refuses to stop spending

3) Some people split their time between mining bitcoins and speculating on future ship prices in an unreleased video game.

Well, if that funds development, and some people manage to make some money, then CAPITALISM, F Yeah!

I think I'll eventually get SC. I don't care that the guy is mismanaging the hell out of it, or that it'll never be as good as promised, or that everything they do release will be outdated and done better earlier, or that it will rely heavily on micro transactions to keep the servers on, or wait what was I saying?

I just want to shoot space things. If my pilot can also take a realistic-looking poo during the down time, then so much the better I guess??

The progress from "then to now" can be viewed dependent on your feelings toward the game. I see it as alot of progress going toward the release of Alpha 3.0 which is my dream game , or you can view it as "Not released yet there for it means squat". I can respect both views.

I am so tempted to post an Ark: Survival Evolved video in response to this, but I don't think anyone would actually want to see it — least of all the mods. Suffice to say that, for better or worse (mostly worse), the game has a “poop interval” setting… :D
