Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

Honestly from the quick scan and jump, it looks like they're looking for something. Has anyone encountered one with any of the artifacts from the alien ruins?

Has anyone checked Polaris or any random permit locked systems after the encounter? Just a thought.

All permit locked Regions outside the Bubble remain locked, as do the systems, with the exception of one. HIP 48762, that system is now Accessible. The system contains a K-Class star and nothing else from what can be gleamed from the System map.

(additions)
I have not been pulled from Hyperspace, if you wish to double check(if you have pulled from hyperspace and have scanned the alien ship) then you can review for Systems that might be unlocked just incase that scan of the alien ship reveals data for you.

Use this to search for Systems that are locked.

Been flying around for a couple of hours now. Met some great CMDRS too!
Got 2 hyperdictions both near the Electra system. Had a UA for both.
One thing I noticed on my second encounter, I lined up with the exit of the alien ship, and set Merope as my target. The ships directory pointed DIRECTLY towards Merope.
However, unless I am able to test this again, it could be written off as coincidence.
So if any other commanders out there could do the same test for me, that would be awesome!

Regarding shooting them. If something forces me out of hype-jump, disables my controls, then scans me rather threateningly; I AM GOING TO ATTACK IT!

They don't try to communicate or anything.

I lit one up with my highly engineered corvette and the shields didn't budge, so I am not worried. Either they are tough, or (more likely) it is scripted so you can't really do anything to them.

I would expect thargoids to do the same to me if I forcefully stopped them. If they want to declare war because I fired warning shots, then its clear they are a far too unreasonable race to co-exist with. However, if they understand that their actions have consequences and do not hold that against us, then I am fine with them being around.

Ultimately, I feel they look down on us. It's like they are studying us like animals. Suck us out of witchspace like pulling fish out of water. I am fine with working with them, but I have NO PROBLEM with completely wiping them out.

I just don't see theses as Thargoids, I'm erring on the side of some Vorlon-esque friendlies that are precursors to a Thargoid first contact and conflict. In interacting with them I reckon there will be some organic 'engineered' kit coming our way...

Wow, look at all this mindless bravado! If an enemy is capable of disabling your controls you think that attacking it is what.. "a good idea"? /slowclap

So far the encounters look 100% scripted indeed.

If you consider that crashed alien ships were found near T9 wrecks, it certainly looks likely.
I guess the in-game story will evolve and we'll know more soon... I wonder how long it will take for Fed and Empire capital ships to arrive in the region.

If you want to sit there whimpering like a scared wittle puppy dog that is fine. We don't know why our ships lose control. It may not be their fault, it might be from dropping out of hyperspace. It may be their best weapon against us, and they are hoping they can intimidate us.

( I am RPing a bit here, so don't take anything too seriously. I think a lot of what it does is just to make things more cinematic.)

It scanned me while I had all 6 on board and had no effect.

...How do you know they haven't tried communicating? Have the we already managed to research the sound and video files?

They don't disable our shields, and while they do disable our ability to react (sensors, navigation, weapons and thrusters) to them the only thing they seem to do is drain the heat from the ship (judging from the formation of ice crystals on the canopy) POSSIBLY scan us, and give the ship a slight nudge.

I can find parallels with a kid catching a butterfly in a net, looking at it closely then giving it a poke before letting it go.

Conversely you could sting it like a bee and end up flattened...

Looks like these aliens use a different type of interstellar travel technology from us then, if the wake scanner can't identify the wake...

If these things can pull us out of a hyper jump, it's entirely possible our wake scanners cannot actually figure out where they're jumping to - especially if their drive technology is more superior than our (which it looks like it is).

LOVE the flame effects in the hyper jump when you're getting hyperdicted.

Triangulate its escape vector, and guestimate what star it is targeting, and then correlate to the galaxy map.

I think someone said it was pointing at Merope for one interdiction. More checks are required.

So it's happening now! And winter is also here (-7 C°). So awesome. How did FD manage these events with current weather conditions?
Just one question: is this happen in Beta or main game?

David Braben has a Raspberry Pi with a temperature sensor in his garden. When it hit sub-sero temperatures in the UK recently, it contacted the FD servers to tell them that Winter had arrived ;)

Ok so this looks like an scripted event.

The sound is very complex and we know information has been hidden there before. ......

So are we working on the sound?

We shouldn't have to dig through the files to see if they have communicated. However, I am not saying they have hostile intentions. To use your illustration, suppose a kid grabs a snake simply wanting to check it out. The snake, of course, bites the child. Now who do you blame, the snake or the child?

I am saying that they should understand if we are annoyed about getting sucked out of hyperspace. If they don't understand that, then we are probably gonna end up fighting them.

Edit: Bah, you edited yours while I was typing my reply. Yes, you could end up flattened, but the issue I am pointing out refers to where the blame goes.

This "scared whimpering puppy" prefers brains over gunmuscle. Follow me in a simple trail of thought (if you're capable that is, since it seems that who-has-a-bigger-one is your credo): the way smaller and "simpler" UP is capable of shutting down your ship, and so does the scout. Instantly attacking someone with this capability on a millisecond assumption that "they may not be able to do it on demand" is even more stupid-- but hey, Darwin awards exist for a reason.

They don't try to communicate or anything.

Yes they did. First thing they do when in vision range is communicate before the "scan" happens. We're yet to understand it but the attempt was there and no obvious hostility shown.
And a nod towards your snake comparsion-- if mother (scout) finds a stranger (you) with her child (ua) captive who is the one that deserves to be shot?

Honestly this demonstrates why things like this need to be scripted. Even if they waved a white flag and offered us Resses Pieces, someone would yell I HAVE A NUT ALERGY YOU TOOLS and open fire ;)

I think an engagement ring spawned in my pocket while reading this post. +rep

Uh... you might want to settle down a bit. I can't really tell if you are RPing any, but this is a game. You are being a little rude and childish. (Unless you ARE role-playing)

(In-game hat back on)

I completely understand your logic. In fact, it may be the right course of action. However, that is not the path I chose. If I lose a ship, then that is fine.

Besides, we don't have the best history. (Remember the virus that nearly wiped out the thargoids)

(Disclaimer: Hardcore RP hat on)

HAHAHA! You are grasping at straws. Like they would pull us out of jump just to say hi. That's like busting into your neighbor's house to say good morning.

There is hostility there. Pulling someone out of hyperspace (or whatever) is like forcing them off the road.

You snap at ME about making assumptions, then say that the UAs might be little alien children/eggs?!?! Besides good mothers DO NOT leave their children scattered across the galaxy.
