Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

It's just people sticking to their habits. I can't say for sure of course but I would be very surprised if they turn out being Thargoids which are just the only Alien species from older versions of Elite. Take it as wishful thinking of some traditionalists - for now. :D

Do we already have some patterns as to where they appear, a certain region perhaps? Or is it just random.

It doesn't seem like the behavior of insectoid creatures with their fear glands removed... not the expected ultra aggressive approach...

Dont bother to go out looking for the Thargoids at the moment unless you are in a fully G5 rated combat ship wing.

The kiddies asked their mum and dad if they could stay up late. So of course they are running around ganking all non combat ships. I wonder if FDEV will ever do anything about it. Its getting silly at this point. I have enough for 2 more rebuys, but some people may not be as lucky as I am.

If you are in a combat ship you should be safe from the children currently out there. They wont interdict you are in a wing or a combat ship. There Idea of PVP means that the other player needs to be flying a non combat ship.

They could have had a cool half million in cargo had they not blown me up. O well you cant fix stupid.

Good luck and please post any result from experiments.

This, a bazillion times this. My Python wasn't exactly non-combat and I didn't stand a chance, I couldn't run fast enough. Like I said, a million lost in cargo, bounties and exploration data and another 4M for the rebuy. I'm really angry and it sours the game.

As a wise man (Midden) once said.

"There's something familiar about that Galnet logo... 8 things familiar"

HAHAHA! You are grasping at straws.

*sigh* No, I absolutely am not saying they are little alien babies-- just following your child analogy. Swap mother with owner, child with possession then.

You would bust into your neighbor's house in the morning to shout "my house is on fire, help".
You would also bust into your neighbor's house in the morning to shout "if I ever find you stealing my stuff, you will pay".

So both options are viable until we decode the message really, so there may or may not be hostility-- until we understand the message and/or get an OBVIOUS hostile attack.

However, that is not the path I chose. If I lose a ship, then that is fine.

Basing choices on expendability of having endless 7UPs isn't really very RPish for me. Assume you only have one life and this choice here affects it and I'm sure the view of bravado choices will severely narrow.

More on topic, since I'm around 20kylies from the place-where-its-happening: does the trail they leave affect flight in any way? On videos it shows a distortion of sorts.

I think something that would be very handy would be to make a list of all of the ships that it has scanned so far. I'm thinking we should see if we can get a T ship over there, for old times' sake.

Just to confirm if anyone still asks (I confirmed that before) - UA is NOT required to trigger the event. 2 of my guys were interdicted with empty cargo holds.

The question here is, where there in a wing with you or someone that had an UA? Because i did like 100 jumps without an UA and nothing happend. With an UA they got me around 6min after picking up an UA.

Have there been any reports of hyperdictions far away from the Pleiades sectors?

P.S. rizal72 needs to wake up, front page update time!

I don't think these are Thargoids.
Back before some of you were born, I remember getting interdicted by them and their little drone ships.
It used to take every little bit of skill to just stay alive back then, use all the power in the naval energy unit constantly firing a military laser...Those things died hard and they would always launch an attack as soon as they pulled you out of Witchspace, this guy didn't attack.
Totally not Thargoid behaviour.

I've been working on some vector math following my first encounter.

It just so happened I had a system targeted that the thargoid was jumping towards. I noted down my system and the system it went towards to get a position and vector. I then tried for hours to get another pull but it never came for me.

So then I looked online and found another persons video. I flew to the sector they were in and tried to align it's jump to a star in it's direction so that I could get another vector. I did this by closely studying the background clouds and stars and picking them on the map until I got one that went in the same direction. They were completely different systems and different vectors.

But here's the cool thing:

I used some old vector math to find the shortest distance between the two skew vectors and found that their distance was only 4ly. This means they were almost intersecting! From there I found the point in the middle of that connecting vector was very close to the system PLEIADES SECTOR LC-V C2-8, which was about 6 ly from the coordinate I calculated.

If they are all going towards that sector, you would be able to verify by targeting it after watching the thargoid jump, but I haven't done any further verification yet nor visited the system.
