Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

Here's an experiment:
(1) equip a fast ship (perhaps engineered, probably needs boost > 500m/s).
(2) once control is restored after interdiction, try to race alien ship and enter the "space hole" it opens before jumping away.
(3) profit?

I'm honestly getting tired of this getting buried, but I've suggested this twice now. My Cobra came very very close to catching it and some guy in an Eagle was WAY faster than the ship, but for some reason he decided to just spin around instead of flying through the space hole.
I know that it is extremely likely that nothing will happen if you go through it, but still.

Or you could plough into the back of it and destroy your ship like the video posted earlier :)

Even if you don't there's no way you'd be able to follow it. Can you follow a capital ship just by flying through the whole it punches in the STC?

So I have been jumping around with just MA's in my cargo bay and have not triggered anything so far.

Path of travel so far:
Merope --> Pleiades Sector RY-R B4-1 --> Pleiades Sector TE-Q B5-1 --> Pleiades Sector ZV-M B7-2 --> Pleiades Sector BR-M B7-0 --> Pleiades Sector SO-R C4-0 --> Aries Dark Region JH-V C2-14 --> Aries Dark Region XU-O B6-3 --> Aries Dark Region UZ-O B6-2 --> Aries Dark Region RE-P B6-3 --> HIP 14479

The HIP system I'm currently in was in my bookmarks because it was apparently known (at the time) to be a UA gold mine. I might fly around for a bit looking for USS :p

I've asked this in the first contact thread but I think it appropriate to ask here as well, given how fast everything is moving: does having a UA in a corrosion-resistant rack have any effect on the probability of alien interdiction? I spent the afternoon, from shortly before lunch time until just now, wandering around jumping from system to system in the Pleiades and out as far as the edge of the UA shell, carrying a UA in a corrosion-resistant rack and saw no sign of anything unusual (I did enough exploration to more than fill a page of exploration data, so maybe 60-70 new systems, not counting those I'd previously visited and scanned). I'm wondering if the meta-alloys are screening whatever UA transmissions the alien ship might be homing in on. Whilst I have heard that cmdrs with no UA have been interdicted, these seem to be rarer. Perhaps there is a hotspot where interdictions are more common? I did visit one or two places where they've been known to occur, including a known crash site.
.
Good luck to everyone searching! I would hold on to that scan data - it wouldn't surprise me if there's a CG for it soon (or even competing CGs! I imagine the Federation, Empire and Alliance would all like to get their hands on it).

Nothing confirmed yet, my suspicion is just contact at some point with a UA.

Have you ever had contact with them?

I thought that I would try a control experiment. I have a relatively new character, she has only had dealing with the Alliance, never had any contact with a UA/UP, never been to the ruins or the crash sites. The only thing she has done is purchase 1t of Meta Alloys to unlock Felicity.

I have just been flying around the Pleiades/Aries region for the last hour and not had a single bite. It's obviously not conclusive, but it is compelling. The only trouble is I don't want to pick up a UA to see if I then get taken, because I want to keep this character clean.

Yes it can happen while in a corrosion resistant rack but nobody atm can tell you what triggers it and how often. The UA making it more probably seems to be a thing but also might just be a coincidence. The hotspot is around Maia and the pleadies aires area for sure. But I've seen it happen while in the bubble.

(Disclaimer: Hardcore RP hat on)
You snap at ME about making assumptions, then say that the UAs might be little alien children/eggs?!?! Besides good mothers DO NOT leave their children scattered across the galaxy.

They do if they are plant based lifeforms, UA's could be their seeds being scattered around the Galaxy, and they are just checking on the progress.

It has been asked, I didn't see any answers. Has anyone tried to scan with a manifest scanner yet? I have one, also a wake scanner, plus want to 'honk' at the UFO...

Shower thought: One feature of the original Elite that's been missing so far is the galactic hyperdrive.

What if that's what the alien vessel is packing? What if the stellar forge has been modelling the Magellanic clouds, Andromeda, or some fictitious galaxy, ready to go?

Or being insect based they have a flower worship culture.... Like we used to worship the harvest etc

Hi, you must be the original CMDR I saw suggest this. I have not found anyone who has tried this, so I bought one and mounted it to my ship. I have been flying around with MAs but have not been hyperdicted. I will probably go looking for UAs later tonight when I go flying with someone else. :) if we get hyperdicted, I will try it!

They have and it doesn't seem to come up with anything. The wake scanner scans its wake but it comes up as unidentifiable and you get 3 unknown data wake things in your data hold of materials. Honking does nothing.

Looks like in this phase, we could not interact with it in any way. It almost looks like the alien "flower" ship is "touching" our vessels with it's light tentacles. Maybe it makes some change to our ships, so close inspection of affected ships should be made in space and in the station (modules, parameters, etc.)

Or it scans us to find out, if we carry specific item in our cargo holds.

And the last - it's only a show off and we are mere observers. Small taste of things to come.

That thing is seeding barnacles. Can be seen in one video. Will go there later at night to try to capture it better. I have some unknown fragments, bought new diapers.

Ok so I've been jumping around the Pleiades with a 1 UA, 1UP and 3MA for hours now with no luck. Going to take a break so docked at Obsidian orbital but be careful folks the pew pew crowd are there. Didn't attack me but saw another unlucky cmdr in a conda get sent to rebuy. I'll check back in in a few hours.

I am thinking the Taurus Dark region is interesting as a potential hiding spot for an unknown starsystem.

I am proposing to go to one of the close by stars and then target a star on the opposite side of the Taurus dark region and then hope to get hyperdicted by Thargoid inside the Dark Region at any hidden star in there.

Galaxy map of Taurus Dark Region and potential hidden/obscured star inside:
E9EE96B259D9A09BC066942EA7FDE08B21B29530

So if I go from Taurus Dark Region HW-W C1-1 , to Taurus Dark Region EB-X C1-1, and get hyperdicted inbetween, it could be inside that dark patch.

I saw it as the tendrils were touching our ships as if analysing the hull structure, hardpoints and utility slots etc.
