Pardon my cheap paint skills, but does that fit?
I can't get the image out of my head,
that the alien ship does not look complete.
What if that ship operates with the frontal beam device in
a different "area" of space than we do, but relies
on ejectable jump drives to move in hyperspace as we do?

Lol we'll have the same scripted event for a year before we get another event. It's been over 3 years and this is the first alien we've seen so far. I highly doubt we'll be getting more than this for a very long time.
Edit: Let's hope FD sees that is what we've been wanting for a long time and not milk the crap out the same event for several months.

Hey CMDRdabbler4 here, I am new to the forums but I thought I'd sign up to post this. I have been reading about some of The Canonn discoveries, and I thought maybe a fresh perspective and some logical train of thought might help (Or might not, feel free to correct me as I want to learn more anyways!)
Everyone is discussing WHAT is happening with first contact, but no one is looking at the WHY. So let's list some things we know:
* So far, all encounters have been friendly (as far as we know)
* Given the frequency of contacts, the neutrality of the alien ship, the 'Scanning' process that takes place, the higher probability it occurs with UA's AND the leaving once this has been done, all points towards one thing; They are searching for something within our system. It seems like they are search and recovering. The random probes, xdeath's discovery or the ruins, has all happened fairly closely with one another.
* With the above thought process, what are the unique item's that come to mind?

Has anyone attempted first contact with the Artifacts/data in cargo hold, from SYNUEFE XR-H D11-102 that Xdeath discovered? Can someone confirm this has been done? And are their any other item's we may be overlooking perhaps?

can you get hyperdicted in a wing in private group?
I got hyperdicted on my third jump of the morning. On board I had a UA, UP, All 6 ancient objects, some large survey data caches and 10 occupied escape pods (plus 4 consumer tech). No difference in what happened in the encounter.
I had a UP because when I last played before christmas I was trying to get 2 UP and 2 UA, and got bored to death after getting first UP.

Worked for me. We both got hyperdicted at separate occasions while in a private group and in a wing.
ok so iv got a UA and im just jumping around inside the shell 135 to 155 ly from merope. correct? been at it an hour now
My friend got hyperdicted without an UA. I tried carrying one. I don't think it matters.

From a meta point of view, would FD design something with eight-fold symmetry and hyperspace interdictions that wasn't Thargoid (given those two things are defining characteristics of Thargoids)? IMHO, no, to do so would be trolling the playerbase and I don't think they'd do that. That's why I am content to call these aliens "Thargoid" until they are proven not to be.
Elite: Dangerous Science - Spend hours at guess and checking limitless ideas and permutations and piping audio through various 3rd party programs whenever something new is discovered. Wait for Frontier to flip switches at some unknown point in time that affects something in the game. A random person then randomly triggers the newly active thing doing something probably already done numerous times before the switch was flipped and who likely was in no way related to any of the previous steps. Repeat.

How many people have been hyperdicted with out a UA?
Just Hyperdicted in HIP 17547 jumping from PLEIADES JN-S B4-1.
I had on board an UA that I grabbed from the shell. Tried honking the Flower with no effect. Tried dropping the UA and honking in an effort to call the thing back with no effect. Grabbed the Unknown Wake Data with the scan and the Unknown ship Data.

I have been Hyperdicted Without a UA .. I spent the last couple days and hundreds of Jumps and Nothing.
I then Visited the Alien Crash Site close by Pleiades.
Got scanned 5 times by the UA`s at the crash site.
Picked up a single Unknown Material and a couple jumps later got Hyperdicted en-route to Electra.
All in Solo-Play
I have no Anti-Corrosive Cargobays yet.
