What military strength? The few shots taken against their backs as they moved away had absolutely no effect on their shields; if their intention is invasion two of their ships should suffice- giving them time for shift breaks.
This is, to my mind, another indication that these particular aliens have no hostile intent; they even seem to be refilling the fuel tanks of ships they interdict

About these "strange things" seen in witch space: I'm sick with the flu, been jumping for hours from Colonia in direction of the bubble to have my personal 1st encounter in VR, so maybe I'm "seeing things"

If it fell out during the scann, it would have shown on the scanner, after the reboot.

I think these things can play small random tricks on us. Repairs, refules, steal cargo and so on. Just small stuff, to mess with us. :D

Repairs, refuels, take dangerous cargo away, don't return fire when shot in the back
Sounds to me like these aliens are pretty benevolent

Has anyone been able to jettison and activate a UP to see what happens? Or has anyone tried to to fly into the portal while carrying a up? It's supposedly the "key". Maybe the key to enter the portal?

Well, just had my own encounter with our creepy new neighbours. Occurred 6 jumps from Maia in P.S TJ-Q B5-0 after flying around A.D.R systems for 2 hours and losing module integrity to my UP I was heading back for refuel and repair.
Unfortunately I lost the UP to corrosion damage before the hyperdiction occurred, maybe 5 mins before it's hard to say. I was doing Eco-jumps back to Maia.
Video is still uploading to YouTube, I'll post it up for good measure once it's finished.

I tried to catch up with the ship once my systems returned but I was too slow, no chance of getting near its wake tear, but I did think I could see what looked like a stream of light/energy coming from the front of the ship and opening the tear it uses to leave our space. Wake scan revealed no destination system.

I just MIGHT see something super creepy there. But I'm just going to go ahead and ignore that. Because otherwise it would be terrifying.

I think we found our little pilot. It may not look like much but dont forget. the ship is HUGE. and the pic is the best we got so far... we need to go deeper!

Earlier in this thread someone posted that UAs that were in your cargo during the encounter point towards somewhere else than Merope post encounter. Could someone go to this system it is pointing to and post the name of the system please. I tried all day to get hyperdicted, but didn't. I'm knackered.

I noticed "something" there too...
I'm not ure what- to me it looks more like a box rather than the seat- but for sure it's dicordant in design from the whole rest of the craft.

It's almost human made-like.

Theory: what if this thing IS human made and just a black flag operation?!

Have a look at the detail on the ball vs the detail on the central section of the underside of the crashed ships hull:

Not quite the same but not exactly dissimilar either. The central point of the underside would also be pretty much directly in line with the upper of the two balls.

Also looking through the bottom part of the canopy where it narrows then widens again - is that a tube or corridor running down into the body of the ship? Are we looking at a production and deposition mechanism?

So I'm kinda curious. I wonder if we've just been applying confirmation bias over these last few days?

- Anyone hanging out in the bubble will be hanging out in inhabited systems. So I guess we can knock off inhabited systems from being locations you get hyperdicted (maybe?).
- Once the first report of hyperdiction came out in Pleiades (which is mostly uninhabited, = more chance), we would've done "just like the UP convoys" and gone straight to the systems where it occurred.
- Explorers out a long way (10,000LY) away aren't reporting being hit, so i guess there's a range bubble for this.
- So, almost all reports of hyperdiction are from the Pleiades region, except that one from the bubble.
- So, hyperdiction occurs in some region inclusive of the (whole?) bubble?

Think I might explore my locally unexplored, uninhabited sectors for a while :)

Hi all still trying to catch up so i dont know if this has been spotted.
i have been going through the interdiction vids that are up all of them i think and one had something ive not seen in the others could be the angle of the shot.

Go to 1 min 53-54 secs just before the jump bubble opens up it looks like the "thargoid" ship fires something straight ahead.
is this how it jumps fires a missile that open a bubble and then passes through it.
Gonna go back and see if it is in any other vids

Not sure if this is helpful to the science....

I jumped maybe, 30-50 times, all round the area with no UA. I had never been scanned by a UA before.

I went to Darnielle's Progress and picked up some Meta Alloys. I made another 20 jumps or so, back to bubble, and then back around the area (fuel rat rescue).

I found a UA, got scanned, picked up the UA. Within 5 jumps I was hyperdicted jumping from Aries Dark Region FW-W d1-32 to Aries Dark Region MN-T c3-3.

Having MetaAlloys and UA onboard made no change to alien encounter.

Hypothesis: Those who have never been scanned by UA might not ever get hyperdicted.
