Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

Maybe raising the relic towers has an influence. they might be transmitters or amplifiers, seeing as the relics are the only powered ancient items.

Maybe we need other items to combine with the urns/orbs. how does a SRV handle a UA? Maybe fish?

Would Frontier come up and say they made a mistake somewhere instead of letting us poking around in the dark?

True - you're the only one to have found a culture I think - how many in that series?

There are 20

- - - Updated - - -

If they landed for good I'd expect to see a lot more signs of civilisation. However a 'pit stop' would be just land collect resources for a while ( day, weeks, months ) build a new FTL transmitter station ( ie the ruins ) and leave for next way point ( or end destination ), leaving the rest of the planet looking untouched ( as we found it ).

I can't disagree with what you're saying. I guess it just depends on the scale of other discoveries. this one seems rather large, and potentially underground too. or just destroyed. Until we find another ruin to change our sense of scale it's all speculation

I was going through a screenshot that was uploaded onto a dropbox that was 16k screenshot, not sure of who here actually took it, but it was on the latest lave radio (warning the original image is quite big). and noticed something interesting.

The following is a cropped version of the screenshot, focus being the cockpit:

it clearly shows the two cylindrical "pads", with what looks like a terminal on the middle one.

What I find odd is the the very non-organic looking tech at the ontop of the middle-pad-with-terminal, that reminds me of a pilot's seat.
This is consistant with the thread cockpit screenshot as well!

That's been already discussed, and the majority agrees that the seat could be just a placeholder Fdevs placed there or even a mistake. They were very good on hiding the Ship pieces inside game files, using assets with names beyond suspicion, so perhaps the seat was missed. ;)

If I understood correctly-- there is a common timer for everyone on this mission, but there are no CG-style tiers that can cause the mission/rewards to end early?
What's the current timer?

Excuse me if asking again but the thread gained speed!

Usually the thread gains speed when US CMDRs wake up, one after the other, from east to west :D

Elite dangerous is a game based on 'poking around in the dark' - so no FDev won't say anything.
Look at how many hundreds of pages this thread got with people working on theories before we discovered that the exact layout of the elements in earth works is actually random - hence it was different in the beta and different after the beta. FDev could have told us that months ago and stopped people wasting so much time and effort. I assume they knew 3/4 months ago or more that the ruins would need people to bring specific items to the specific pillars to get information, but only when the beta hit did we know that for sure and only this week can we actually do it.
I blame xdeath :D! FDev obviously assumed they'd have a couple of months to get their stuff together before players would actually need it!

EVERYONE STOPS! :)

It is a well known bug, I remember it very well as I experienced it many times, I think I've filed even a bug report for this.
Basically, if you honk before deploying the UP and then you deploy it, it activates automatically. I'm not sure if the UA needs to be there or not, but I think yes.

I made some posts about this, but it was very long ago, I did it with the FIRST UP EVER, immediately after I DISCOVERED THE HONK BEHAVIOR, among the many experiments I've performed with it.
So it should be easy to find it, but I do not have time now...

[cry]

I am sorry for not noticing this before, I can only assume it was during my hiatus from the game ;) I note you say you've filled out a bug report, just to check (sorry), did they confirm it was a bug?

I don't know if this variant was tested (thread moving too fast), but is it possible, that scanning with two items of the same kind could return some result (orb - orb, urn - urn, etc)?

More entries are being discovered, but it seems no-one is publicly posting what artefacts are getting these new entries any more :( Science relies on sharing! (And so did the Guardians it seems! :p)

the active obelisks have changed, i repeat the active obelisks have changed, there are active obelisks that yesterday were not

This is true. And I'm not getting anything when I scan now - no data materials, just a log note saying ancient civilisation data downloaded. No message from Ram Tah.

edit: back to normal obelisk locations after reboot. Still missing messages from Ram Tah.

jesus christ, I have to make all the scans from start?!??!!? What's the point to have a beta if the mess up the release like this?!?!

I made a quick recon and no obelisk has changed for me. Also the no-data combination are still no-data combination.

Can someone provide a map of "changed" obelisks?

This kinda sounds suspiciously like a bug doesn't it? (introduced with the alien interdiction and/or 2.2.03).

Calling Michael Brookes! I appreciate you don't want to give too much away but could you post one knock to acknowledge you've read this, two if you'd rather not comment and three if it sounds like a bug to you.

Thanks! :)

Sounds like a bug.

Michael

I think everyone has their own timer. 2 minutes after I got the mission it had 3 weeks, 6 days, 23 hours and 58 minutes.

Unless I remember wrong?

We discussed the possibility yesterday, but if you look at it, it's such a specific set of circumstances that it seems highly unlikely that it would be a bug. My main thinking is that if it was a bug then it would play the audio as well.

If you were testing this a month ago, why did you not come and tell us? :D

I was pretty sure this was known behaviour (as Rizal has confirmed).

However, something I can't find a reference for which may be unknown, is that the UP narrow beam seems to transmit in both binary and octal (the same message - so it functions as a Rosetta stone for numbers). It's widely stated in forums that the UP transmits in octal, but I can't find any reference for the octal character set it uses. So perhaps when people say the UP transmits in octal do they mean it uses binary triplets? E.g. 010 111 001, rather than some alien looking character set?
