So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

I had POI circles and found a wrecked metalic structure, some cargo wracks and salvage was recovered. It was non-persistent however and despawned after 'testing'.

I'm talking about finding that kind of objects while on ground, recall my ship, taking off vertically and not seen any blue POIs. And the objects are there after landing again. I didn't got a single POI in the whole search area while airborne. Is this a normal behavior?.

For non-persistent POI's, my experience has always been that they only show up while flying within a certain range of the randomly generated object, and then only display on your scope for a few seconds. If your first discovery of the object was on the surface via the SRV, I have never seen the blue circle show up after getting back into the ship and taking off. Again, this is for non-persistent POI's.

Ok. Thank you. It's weird to find a lot of non-persistent man made objects while on SRV and not see a single POI flying at the right altitude and minimum speed. I made tests in another planets within the same systems, same metodology, and got a few sparse blue POIs, some of them apparently empty.

But if this is usual, I'm glad to know it. Another weird idea discarded.

The only ways I have found objects is while flying (blue POI indicator) and on surface (SRV scanner). If a POI appears empty while flying, I have found the easiest thing to do is land and use the SRV scanner to find it. Never had that technique fail on me (knock on space driftwood).

Ok, I'm slightly ticked(?) off at this point but figured "whatever, while I'm here I'll just cross the Rift like a man!"
I usually take the Heisenberg crossing, and now I'm just plotting my own course for the first time. I'm about half way without using any jump boosts so that's going pretty well. If I get killed by an alien on the other side of the Rift I wouldn't even mind. I'd just take some pretty screenhots. (no movies though. I play borderless and Shadowplay doesn't seem to like that any. Tips are welcome: doesn't shadowplay work with borderless?)
Anyway, spacemadness seems to be creeping in. That's why I keep ramblin more and more in this here tavern.

Shadowplay will work with borderless. You have to enable desktop recording.

Just a thought...when the heart nebula disappears, it must mean something. It can't just be a bug that they haven't been able to fix in two years...c'mon. They can't say it isn't a bug because that would give it away. Maybe it means we are on the right track for something that we need to do next. Like step 1 of 3 or some like that.

Folks,

Don't have an update per se, but I'm getting the vibes that a fix isn't immediately imminent (ie, just a switch on). If I hear anything concrete I will post asap.

Cheers,

Drew.

Still think braben should sack a few employees over this debacle starting with management. Time for some new minds and fresh approaches. Just an opinion by the way, everyone's allowed one.

Actually, my personally theory is that they have a very talented bunch of programmers, but they are also using said talented people in fields they don't have so much talent in (eg - typing up text for NPC's etc, gameplay choices like the ridiculous amount of RNG on top of RNG...).

Anyways, as for the rift, I'll head back once this thing is actually rolling again. I have a feeling whatever we ar elooking for, will not be very obvious on my Mac Air screen anyways...

Z...

I think it's just a render thing - stuff doesn't get drawn in when you're a certain distance away, or from certain angles. Barnard's Loop also jumps in and out sometimes, even planets the terrain "clears" in various stages as you approach. Or POI bases, those can "decloak" at certain distances, which can be annoying if you're trying to spot stuff you have no idea what kind of flight ceiling you'll need.

Tested again this morning still no fix, or at least a word that the locations have changed would be nice at this point so we can choose our next steps.

I would love a fix today but I'll be happy enough if we can get a ETA so I can decide if I stay in the rift or go back to the bubble to fondle and abuse the ancient ruins

Just be aware that going to the ruins might not be the best thing if you want to get away from bugs! :)

It's there and kind of working, but when doing the scans there's always supposed to be a notification of either a positive result. It works probably 60 - 70% of the time, but the rest of the time either nothing comes through, you get a voice notification but no inbox message, or the message comes through but it self-deletes after a split second of arrival!

There is certainly something very wrong with the methods that Frontier are currently using. This is two updates over a five week period where important big story elements didn’t even work in game, where one update was supposed to FIX the broken assets from before. It’s terribly amateur that somebody at Frontier didn’t even take the simple time to test things before going live. Or, the case might be that their testing procedures just don’t work going between in-house and live, which is still also terribly bad. And to top it off we have a huge lack of communication from Frontier on any of it, AGAIN. If not for Drew talking to us we wouldn’t have ANY semi-official comments whatsoever.

It’s just bad all around, and not indicative of a game development studio of Frontier’s caliber. I won’t go pointing fingers or calling for heads because the truth is that game development is hard work, mistakes will be made, but it’s how you handle those mistakes that makes the difference between a happy customer base and a frustrated playerbase. And the honest truth is that actions speak louder than words, but sometimes speaking words is a very important action too.

Someone has asked Sandy about it in the beta wrap-up thread so maybe there wil at least be some clarification of what the hell is going on.

When they announced update 2.2.03 I'd just got back to the bubble the day before from Jacques and seriously considered jumping in my long range Asp and buckyballing out to the rift ready for when it dropped. Have to say that I'm so glad I didn't bother and stayed in the bubble tweaking some engineering mods instead, I'd have gone mad if I'd jumped 10k straight back out only to have to fly round cooling my heels for days not having a clue what was going on.

Wise move. I stayed out here during the beta and have now taken to counting all the rocks on the planet's surface. If I finish that before this is fixed, I'll start naming them. [big grin]

You are going to have to put up a fight for those naming rights.
