So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

I am slowly (as in playing occassionally on the Tharrn account) moving from Hyponia towards the Rift via the Outer Arm Gap and along the Outer Arm (will arrive near Hyponia shortly). I fully expect to arrive a few months early :D

I think it's just a render thing - stuff doesn't get drawn in when you're a certain distance away, or from certain angles. Barnard's Loop also jumps in and out sometimes, even planets the terrain "clears" in various stages as you approach. Or POI bases, those can "decloak" at certain distances, which can be annoying if you're trying to spot stuff you have no idea what kind of flight ceiling you'll need.

It doesn't make sense to me because the Heart disappears while the Soul right there next to it never does...ever!

I'm starting to think 2.4 will be working content in the rift... "Elite: Dangerous 2.4 Rift"

... or stealth technology will be coming to ED through engineers.

:D

IIRC FDev did actually confirm this one as being a bug - unlike their usual silence.

Right, but I'm thinking that it could be a bug in a way that the Heart is not supposed to disappear all the times but only when doing specific things, like traveling along the RR line for example. In that case they won't come back and say "Hey guys, it's a bug, it's only supposed to disappear when you are on the RR line but right now it disappears all the time, sorry", because that would give something away.

If that was the case, then I'd expect them to just say nothing at all - rather than lying about it.
There's enough tinfoil floating around this thread without starting to disbelieve the things FDev tells us

(no movies though. I play borderless and Shadowplay doesn't seem to like that any. Tips are welcome: doesn't shadowplay work with borderless?)

I had the same problem with shadowplay: it required me to go fullscreen, even if i had desktop capture enabled.
On my end it was a video driver problem, updating them fixed the problem.

So shadowplay does record borderless, but:
1) you have to install the latest video drivers
2) the borderless window must be the main screen in windows settings (if you are using more than one monitor)
3) the "desktop capture" function must be enabled in the shadowplay settings.

These steps solved my borderless problems (3 days ago)
I hope it helps.

So just to clarify, the argument I am trying to make is that they are not lying when they say it's a bug, because it is (it disappears all the times and not only when it's supposed to). They are just white lying. 2 years is a long time to fix such an obvious bug. And when they fix it, they can't say that they did either, because it's still happening when the right circumstances are met (which is how it was supposed to work to begin with). Again, why the Soul nebula right next to it never has this problem?

The heart neb disappearing is pure bug - the same nonsense happens on the other side of barnard's loop and they wanted to know exact systems etc - it's a render engine bug. the nebulae renders are very nice and fancy stuff, great chance of having some very strange ways to go wrong

I love and play this game like no other, over 18 weeks played according to the in game stats. Yesterday I looked at the PC and just couldn't bring myself to turn it on.

When I saw that the patch notes started with "- Fix for crash when dropping from orbit at Eafots LZ-H b10-0 D 1" I raced back out there only to find that the mising assets are still not in game. Was I jumping the gun, should I have waited for a patch note of "- Formidine Rift assets now in game"? I thought I was already being very patient waiting for an extra PVP centric beta to conclude before the fix went in.

The things I've been contimplating doing are staying parked on the planet waiting for the fix to be fixed, driving the SRV around the planet while using the bugged scanner, flying back to the bubble and taking part in the Ancient Ruin mission that sound like it's bugged, or spending even more hours jumping around the Maia area hoping to get 'hyperdicted' by aliens. None of these things interest me enough to start the game.

Come on FD, you can do better than this!

Yeah, I agree. I've worked in IT for a long time and am inclined to cut FDev a lot of slack, but the key to damage control in situations like this is frequent communication. Even Drew can't get answers out of them on something that is a major piece of content.
