i think so, a few others posted just above have said it seemed to have worked for them, but i would get the ship right next to where you are scanning, like i said i'll be testing that later but if you have the chance to do it now and post a reply to this i would be very interested.
I don´t think it will work that way:
1.) if U park Your ship close enough, Ur SRV turret will stay stowed and U can´t scan, if U can scan the deciphering module will check whats in Ur cargo hold (here SRV, not Ur ships cargo-hold)
2. it works if U are in your ship (hence Ur actual cargo hold has all the items needed) and U get the scan by transmission of Ur wing partner and the decipher-module checks if the right items are in Ur actual cargo-hold (here ship)

coincidence?

edit: this is the other moon going down over the ruins, with the planet rings pointing at some nebula.

edit2: I was trying to capture the sun/moon eclipse on video but it turns out the eclipse lasts several hours and i am running out of time now. also noted that the stars are not moving in any way.

Hi

was doing some timelapse yesterday morning, dispite the crashing i managed to capture a few seconds of sky, the sunset and moonset, and a few seconds of the brown dwarf against the galaxy and nebula, I note all are moving so the plant is spinning. forgive the shorness and jerkyness, but crashes both in the game and with the game make it kinda hard.

Big thanks to CMDRs for those hi-res pictures. Looking at the ground I got divine inspiration.
There are two grids here, power and communication grid.
Some obelisk are consoles/comm network (yellow marking), others are power repeaters (red marking).
To activate power grid, communication grid must be activated first. Communication obelisks needs to be active to activate power obelisks.
Since the whole site is damaged, our numbers deceive us.

Twitch is offline. Can you Youtube or Imgur it please?

It was a long stream, and heck of a lot of frustration. lol. 5 hours ++
https://www.twitch.tv/panzertard/v/114247989
I recommend forwarding to 2:24:00 at least.
But there's some 1-2 hours of misc random testing of patterns.
We thought we had found pattern to reproduce, but we failed.

However, some of the takeaways
- We tried to reproduce a situation where we get the 'special' obelisks to light up.

What we tried:
- Scanning a specific obelisk, then moving to another grid and checking to see if we get specials. Some times we did, some times we didn't.
- Moving out of Obelisk 'hot zone (15m)' and back again, one by one. Idle-zone >15m, hotzone <15m or so. And shutdown zone 50m or more.
- Moving faaar away, 2-3Km. one by one.
- Relogging a player, one by one to see if we could light up new ones, or transfer it to more players.
- Bringing ships down to the compounds, if it was a factor.
- Jumping / Flying over grids.
... and just mucking about.

What we managed to do:
- Get special obelisk to spawn, most frequently but one commander logging out and back in again into the PG.

However, we could not predict which one would light up - and for whom.
The obelisk choose to light up just for some of the players. Darn frustrating.

Other interesting bugs or features we experience ... making our time ingame more interesting
* Cargo disappears from SRV, being sent back to our ships. Nice surprise every time.
* Sometimes the PG members cold not connect back to our session. When we inspect our pilots in the player-list, everybody appear to be in OPEN ... while being in a PG. Nice one ...
* Beacon Towers would not raise the Relic, stuck under ground. Relog per player may / may not solve it. Funny.
* Special Obelisk lights up only for some players. Evil ... truly evil.
* SRV scanner is broken when signals overlap each-other, hiding signals for display.
* PG disconnect for all three players.

Anyway, more testing later tonight. Same stream, not sure what plan we have yet though.

I want to see if activating the Relic Towers - shooting off the Relic Tower peices (but not the Relic) modifies the behaviour of the Obelisks - problem is, this doesn't work in Solo (Obelisks don't seem to change at all), and I've only tried PG in Mobius, and that's like trying to herd cats to actually do anything scientific.

Or put another way... like minded friends required for sexy science experiments...

What if these ruins are writing? I have only seen a handful of posts, so not sure if someone visited this theory yet. Of course we currently have no way to decode...

Just had a go at scanning G 17 and 18 in solo with one of each item placed around the obelisk except casket and urn, which remained in my hold. failed scan email.

Then tried placing the casket, orb, urn and tablet on the marker blocks between g 17/18 and g11/12 with relics in each of the middle spots and totem in my hold. still no joy.

It seems items need to be in the hold, not just close - will try moving my ship up and see what happens.

edit - of course moving the ship closer just disables the turret!

cracking, one less thing for me to test tonight, let me know how it goes with moving the ship closer, i think Xenia_K might be right in the above post.

with the obvious borrowing/design influence of British neolithic ( stone age , in old money ) ritual monument architecture which 'mapped' the stars ( and was in now way primitive as posited by some technocentric folk on here )

these monuments often were part of a wider ritual landscape ( other monuments located nearby ) often within line of sight , directional hints etc as people moved from one location to the other in a signposted fashion. I don't think it's too bigger leap of faith to infer that having using the neolithic architecture as a template that FD haven't utilised the connectivity between locations as part of the puzzle. That moon is a dead ringer as well as it lines up at certain times of the day with the causeway that projects from the highest part of the monument.

Anyway I'm off there to see if I can follow the pointers and processional ways to find the other sites

here's thornborough henge ( Yorkshire UK ) complex with reflects orions belt in its design

http://www.ancient-origins.net/ancient-places-europe/sacred-prehistoric-neolithic-complex-thornborough-henges-003652

I can see where you are coming from but 6000 thousand years ago Orion's belt did not look like it does in today's night sky, also this isn't some ancient monument, it was as we have been told a communications site by an advanced civilisation, we don't erect monoliths at our communications sites to map out the stars as markers for future generations, as we know the stars and we change position in the sky and as such it would be pointless for any future use as pointers to celestial bodies. The moon on which its located does not seem to have any other as yet discovered remnants of civilisation so I would think its just a remote satellite station or communications hub and nothing major like a population center.

My gut feeling is that neither the guardians nor the new race doing the hyperdictions are the Thargoids.
The Thargoids at this time point have 'too much history' with us to be just grabbing us and scanning, the devs even mentioned that our interactions with them (hostilities) will determine future relations.
Thargoids are the big bad, i think as and when they come they'll be all guns blazing. You only have to read the ED novels to realise they still don't really like us.

Its certainly an interesting time to be 'alive' though, one dead species (so it seems) and one fist contact species. If the Thargoids are separate again that makes a busier universe than expected.

Okay, so for those who choose to, or can only play solo for whatever reason, having all the items (Casket, Urn, Relic, Tablet, Totem and Urn) in your ship's cargo hold, parked very close while scanning, does not result in any successful scans. I'd be genuinely interested to hear from MB as to whether this mission is fully achievable in solo, without having to resort to open or PG.

I think this is more likely (not sure about the thargoid origin but your theory is plausible). However having just seen the latest episode of Sherlock I'm reluctant to stop searching at three.

Haven't seen it yet, still on the Tivo "to watch" list. Too busy killing skimmers to afford an exploraconda & trying to catch up with this thread (whittled breakfast times 30 pages behind to just 5! Might even catch up before lunch!)

I also tried with my ship right alongside and all items in hold - parked just far enough away to allow turret to deploy - no change - think it's too far.

Has anyone achieved the bonus 100mill? if so do we know what classes as complete? the full 36(?) that people have found?
Just curious as i'm currently at 19 found and doing unsuccessful laps.

I think (in the absence of firm evidence) you should assume it can be done in Solo on the grounds that ED is both a single and multiplayer game. Frontier allow but do not encourage you to switch modes they leave that to you. If you start down the route of analysis of game mechanics outside the actual game then all things are possible.
