So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

Wish you all luck, heading back home from Hawking's Gap. Bit disappointed, that people do not want to cooperate and search as teams, but hey, you are explorers, being a loner is part of what you are, so I get it :) Special thanks to few pilots who helped or at least tried, every little counts.

Again - best luck commanders :)

Good luck on your journey home Commander! Getting all of us together for a coordinated search is a bit like herding cats, I'm afraid. We're just all over the place!

Me? I'm heading for the Conflux ... it'll take me a while in my shiny new Sidewinder but, once I arrive, I'd be glad to participate in a detailed and coordinated search. If your path crosses the Conflux make sure to let me know and, as always, keep flying!

I need zoom on secret camera like as another avia simulators.

Finding anything on a planetary surface in Elite: Dangerous is a laborious task. I've never found so much as a fumarole without the help of a tourist beacon. We need better tools. Not just for this particular search but in general.

I suppose that to realize the zoom on a secret camera, a relatively simple and quick. But be that as it helped not to spoil the eyes.

Sidewinder?! +1

I think co-operation will be required for the last one due to the size, and given when you look at the map for the delta site it isn't a feature you can see from the orbit view.

Like finding a landmark and flying to it just doesn't seem a good method anymore.

Some highlight when you come with 30km would be a good start.

As it stands, even if you find the location on a planet-sized area it's possbile to fly right past it without realising because they are so small, or because your attention wavered as you've been sat staring at a unvarying landscape slowly moving over the screen for 5 hours. It's all a bit unreasonable if you ask me.

Blue radar markers that disappear below 2km? Items like the settlements that <for some reason> don't appear on your scanner?

I mean it's like this presumably for gameplay reason but c'mon, the tasks we are being asked to accomplish are so huge, time-consuming and monotonous.. Please at least add *something* to help. :(

Ahhh, about 10 minutes away to arrive at the beta site in the Gap.
My FDL is beaten up with about 120kly since the last time it saw a station, but I'm looking forward to search for the base after days of jonking.

Not bad, 24.5ly. It is an excellent exploration ship, my only gripe that I should have gone for better thrusters, 5A lvl1 clean drive here, but the faster the better for safety and also for searching planets for volcanism... or bases. :)

Happy to help with team search, but just useless with latitude and longitude. Can't wrap my tiny brain head round it, despite many attempts. :(

I'm averaging about 18 to 20 light-years per jump with a Class A FSD (non-engineered). My plan is to eventually arrive in Colonia as an "Outlander". See here for details: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/283178-The-Outlander-Challenge

Searching the Conflux will be a pitstop on the way to Colonia.

Any particular reason for the Sidewinder?

Ah ok, not as bad as I thought it would be, still o7 :), that's a lot of jumping!
On the 1st Colonia CG I tried to take my fully loaded Python there, jump range ~15 LYs! I gave up after about 4000 LYs as I wasn't going to make it in time, jettisoned the cargo & headed back.
I probably shouldn't have explored so much ;), but the jump range was the problem. It has a 5A FSD with just a grd 1 mod.

Barking mad
Re Sidewinder, as per his link, it's part of The Outlander challenge.

I know what it is in theory, I just can't use it in game and get confused about where I should be flying!

There is a post on reddit which explains it a bit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/411iu5/quick_guide_to_using_planetary_coordinates/

I think the most important is to watch the compass while flying. If you head towards 180 or 0(360) deg on the compass, you can e.g. fly from pole to pole along the same longitude. If you go along 90 or 180 degree you will fly along one fixed lattitude around the palnet.
