Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

But it's only a game! yes it may have it's problems, but in the end it's a game, something to do to get enjoyment out of playing it.

If you're not enjoying this bit of the game then go & do something else.

I will.

Here's the thing though. I paid for this game. I have over 1800 hours in it so yes, you can say I got my money's worth and all the other stuff that people invariably trot out but the facts are this.

  • The ruins mystery is one of the most interesting bits of content that have been included in the game.
  • I want to play this part of the game, engage with it and receive the payoff (entertainment not credits) from playing interesting content.
  • It is broken.
  • I do not expect content to repeatedly be broken in a game which is over two years old.
  • This has happened again and again.
  • I am absolutely frakking sick of it.
Having an expectation that all of the game will work and that I will be able to dip into the parts of the content as and when they interest me rather than as and when FDev can be bothered fixing them is not an issue rooted in some sense of entitlement that I have. It's an issue rooted in my expectations as a consumer who purchased a product and to be frank, those expectations aren't being met. I have no interest whatsoever in sugaring that pill. When I'm at work, if I screw up I get reamed out for it and am expected to deliver more effectively in future and I don't find that unreasonable.

You're absolutely right that the game is supposed to be fun and that I am playing it for entertainment. That is exactly why when faced with content that is broken over and over again, the novelty wears off over time and after 14 months of playing the game, I've crossed the Rubicon as far as adopting a laissez-faire attitude to it is concerned. I'm tired of it. Not the game, this is the thing, I still want to play the game but I'm at a point where the stuff outside of the norm is where most of my interest lies and it's that stuff which is frequently delivered in an unplayable state.

What I am tired of is telling myself that it's reasonable to keep excusing it.

I do realise that you were trying to deliver a positive message and I thank you for it. It's just that this has been the straw that broke the camel's back today I'm afraid. We're what, almost halfway through Ram Tah's mission for this aspect of the game, a second aspect of it appears to be due to be unlocked from the CG which will finish today and yet there are still huge problems with the original mission, no communication whatsoever about it and frankly nobody has any idea at all what the hell is going on. Somebody should be getting a strip torn off them for this omnishambles, there should be some kind of explanation on here (should be one already actually) and it should be the last time it happens.

Qucik update:
I need 2 hi-res pictures of this navigation beacon with as much details as possible, 1 should be surrounding area with nav point in the middle (city). City 1/4 of the picture in the center.

The other - detailed picture of the city straight above loking to the ground.

What pictures should I use? Suggest me.

I am picky, and want +- 5 m and 1-2 degrees tolerance.

Now, family first...

No time now. Will report later tonight and post a master key in 4 hours.
So show some courtesy if You cannot show respect.
You have no chance if You dont have Pareidolia.

This city is a huge galaxy map. Huge!

Edit: I am not talking about obelisks. I do not touch them.

I'm curious to eventually find out what you are talking about. Part of me still thinks the ruins are a stellar map too, even though my map theory doesn't point to anything interesting. Hopefully yours does!

Anyone thinking about this may not be the first alien ruins we were supposed to find ?

I mean, it seems that the nurmbers of datas are between 7 and 15, so maybe there is a "first" alien site, surely closer to the Meene system where we could find data between 1 and 6

What do you think ?

Hi everyone
Recently I came up with that I'll go to one place.
If you found one third party of information about the aliens that have yet to be two other places.
So I flew to the point of a planet with coordinates 0, -90.
And I found that what you see in the attached picture.
According to me there are two such places on the planet but I can not calculate it. I tried it on a regular equilateral triangle but found nothing flying to these points.
Where a mistake in the calculations?
Sorry for my english, I'm not that strong.
Because maybe somewhere in the forum about that you wrote and I did not understand.
Nevertheless, please conversion of the coordinates, maybe someone can do it.
Let's check it.

On the other sites, did anyone follow this line of thinking?

Given the Guardians fascination with geometric shapes (see Culture 12) and the predominance of tetrahedrons/triangles at the site, could the other ruins be here :

That was my line of thinking I've posted few days ago. With second option of sphere inside tetrahedron as alternative.

Moreover, because imo ruins are only comms array/relay, we can have exact structure in bigger scale, where in centre there is a Homeworld, then a "layer" of 4 planets with ruins like one we already know about (each having total of 4 sites) and the last, outer layer of 3 colonies world that each is at same distant to closest 2 or 3 "relay" planets.

But it is how I would implement this into game in perfect situation and I doubt it will be similar or like it in ED.

Regarding the discussion about scanners: Maybe they could introduce a second level of surface scanning (call it surface mapping for example), where you are able to scan from the orbit. You have to be in an orbit and you have a scanner-cone with a certain diameter.

Something like this:

When you find a persistant POI, like the ruins -> "Bing"

You need a third scanner type, and the progress is being showed in "%". And the size of the scanner-cone is engineerable. Payout is slightly higher than for surface scans. Could push exploration to a new level, and could help us finding stuff, it could also help FD making things more complicated for us to find.

Just my 2 cents though.

And with special turret under ship, with different spectrum visual instruments or at least with simple telescope with nice zoom, because honestly I'm barely able to see anything from air unless I land on it by accident :(

I've taken the liberty of posting on the suggestions forum a request for improvements to planetary surface search capabilities, quickly summarising what I read in this thread, and posting the urls of the relevant posts on this thread (apologies if I missed any).

I've received some encouraging comment and rep, so what I would suggest is add there (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/324053-Exploration-Planetary-surface-search-improvement-requirement-amp-suggestions) any new thoughts you have for requiremnts/better mechansims, and/or also how it could be balanced to avoid making surface search too easy. Then bring it to DB, MB & Sandro's attention by whatever means necessary (pm, mention in livestream, Galnet post, whatever)- if we want something doing then we need to make sufficient noise to get our case heard.

Ram Tah says, the cities distributed across continents! all known puzzles found on the planets of the star, "Y" with rings.
I have a question, there is evidence of a meeting with a alien's ship after visiting the ruins ???

The first suggestion I made was 23 months ago, there's an entire stickied thread which has been updated for almost as long. If they haven't budged for that long then, as I've said before I doubt they will. I'd love to be proved wrong.

You know, people asked for putting down coordinates and other types of things regarding planet surfaces, and MB said they would consider that when the content "supported/needed it". I would say all of this definitely calls for it; otherwise, they're just yanking everyone around. Can any of you seriously tell me that it's justifiable that the Rifters are having to search every inch of those planets with all their graphic settings at low settings just so they can MAYBE see a settlement? I'm definitely aligned with Red Anders point of view on this; it's just not funny or cute anymore.

Perfect, thank you CMDR. Which direction is rising please?

Sorry for not replying earlier. I'm now back at the ruins, but can't really tell in which direction is Barnard's loop rising (I assume you ask for Barnard's loop since it's the most identificable nebula in the sky) because the planet orbit is slow. Maybe in a few hours we can tell using a screenshot taken right now as reference. Bearing 0 and you can see my exact location in the radar and planetary coordinates.

Still searching for sweet potato?

Would military slots make you happier?

Brilliant.

In which case I'm sorry; I did have a look to see if there was a relevant thread there alrady but didn't see it. But I would say how often has that been promoted to FD during those 23 months- it may need a campaign to push the need.
