That's just completely untrue. Physics has an excellent grasp on light, and quantum field theory in general. Quantum Electrodynamics is one of the most well-tested, numerically accurate physical theories ever created. Seriously, it has absurd levels of tested precision and agrees extraordinarily well with observation. Don't take my word for it - go and look it up.

Humankind knows a lot about our universe, and Physics is well aware of the limits of its knowledge (the most obvious one is the lack of a way to unify gravity and the standard model). But our knowledge of the process of energy production in stars and the mechanism by which they radiate - at the very least main-sequence KGBFOAM stars - is excellent.

It's pretty clear there are things we don't know about the universe (the precise nature of dark matter, literally anything about dark energy). But light is not one of those things.

edit: I realise you're trying to be placatory and I appreciate the intent!

I'm sorry, I get into a discussion.
But science (physics) still do not know why light has a speed - that is. There's no explanation. Is the speed of light + -300k, but for some reason - do not know ???[yesnod][yesnod][yesnod]

FDev better do something quick! We have got people arguing about theories as if they were laws! :p

Keep in mind we still know very little about light (especially light in space) and very little about quantum things. I am not saying anyone is right or wrong, but remember mankind knows very very very..... very little about our universe.

Our understanding of light in space is pretty solid, it's why we have been able to get those pretty pictures of far off galaxy, and using our understanding, able to measure their composition and speed, this is where I jump in and back out of this particular subject.

Right or wrong this isn't the best of places. Someone popped out a old school astrolabe that resembles our ruins and no one seemed to notice.

This over and over. Please folks, if'n you want to argue who has the better grasp of science, go find a thread dedicated to that, likewise if you want to carry on about bugs and such, and leave this place for the discussion and sharing of info re the whole ruins thing.

Would be much appreciated.

That astrolabe is very interesting, but I don't have anything to add on that front atm!

For those looking for an intro to QM which is pretty accessible I recommend viascience. Here's a QM playlist

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL193BC0532FE7B02C

There are more on relativity, etc.

For those looking for something a little easier Veritasiums Quantum Entanglement and Spooky action at a distance
https://youtu.be/ZuvK-od647c

And the on the double slit experiment
https://youtu.be/Iuv6hY6zsd0

I now return you to your regularly scheduled game discussion

I've also heard the "singing", and play with music turned off. In flight while searching for the ruin site, not directly around site but close by, heard it one time out of about 5 trips. You do have soundscapes if you sit still for a while in most locations (even deep space), but I'm fairly certain it sounded unlike others i've heard and felt like it was in character to the ruins. Worth someone trying to capture.

Perhaps, if the alignment/zenohenge theory is correct, it only occurs at certain times?

I really hope this "singing" that has been so frequently mentioned as associated with the ruins is not just the choral music we get when arriving at the destination of a programmed jump. That would be soooo disappointing.
BUT I'm still waiting to hear some recorded evidence.....

Ambient sounds at ruins with and without music (music turned on at about half way ish)

"singing" may be a grandiose term for it, its just what I picked up from others talking of it, and it stuck.

From 3:55, at least I think I'm on the same page as others regarding the singing, but as I explained, singing probably not the right term, melodic chatter I call it.

It is interesting. Especially that it's heard when you have music turned off

That's an excellent point (sorry to everyone bored of the Physics talk - it's a passion!). Hopefully I'm not repeating anything you already know here.

The standard model doesn't actually contain "c" as a constant, but really that has just moved the problem around. You still have 18 (26 if you factor neutrino masses IIRC) parameters to define the standard model which are, essentially, empirical.

There's a feeling amongst some physicists that this is too many, and whatever theory replaces & subsumes the standard model should ideally contain many fewer free parameters and thus give us a clearer idea of why the structure of forces and their relative strengths in our universe is what it is. But honestly we just don't know - maybe there really are 26 degrees of freedom and we're just imposing our views of mathematical elegance?

Since we are certain the standard model is not complete - since it doesn't contain gravity and cannot explain dark energy - perhaps its eventual replacement will solve the issue.

The origin of the fundamental physical constants is a great question. I have my own preferred explanations, but we just don't know, speaking scientifically. And for scientists, that's super awesome because they like doing science. Just like the Cannon! ;o)
