Please bring back the normal resolution! I usually have the game playing on my TV for friends to watch while I wear the Rift. Now the game looks like **** low-res on my TV, AND text is unreadable on the Rift with the native resolution.

Please don't strictly enforce arbitrary resolutions specifically for the Rift, it ruins the experience for everyone.

Throwing in my vote of support for this. Definitely confused as to why this change was deemed necessary as it's just negatively impacting things right now.

+1 on this, every Rift enabled game in existence benefits from downscaling from higher resolutions.
Interestingly, I've seen nearly every "big" VR game go through this phase, where developers think it's a great idea to limit resolution. Valve did exactly the same thing with Half-Life 2 and TF2, and it made the games completely unplayable in VR. Maxing AA changed nothing. Eventually they reverted that particular change.

I don't have an OR, but it's possible that FD is not allowed to offer workarounds around it's hardware capabilities under some legalese. Farcebook may have given FD an infraction for wiggling stuff.

I've seen it done before. Tragic really.

No, this is definitely not it. The Rift is literally just a screen that you output a picture to, the breakout box (which will be integrated in the DK2) is in fact designed to downscale/upscale whatever resolution is being output.

Instead of running at non-native resolution, how about a feature request to support true supersampling AA as a rendering option where the image is rendered internally at a higher resolution?

Although SSAA isn't available from the options menu, you can enable it in the config files.
Go to: "C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics"

Open the file "Settings.xml" (Notepad works if you don't have anything better)

Under where it says <GraphicsOptions> add the line:
<SSAA>1.5</SSAA>
That should mean the game is rendering at 1920x1200 and then downsampling to 1280x800. You can experiment with other numbers.

When is my Oculus Rift DK2 coming??

I don't know where to put this post, sorry guys!

I'm just curious if anyone has any intel on the ship dates for Dev Kit 2.

I preordered mine on the first day, Mar 19th.

When!? When!??

Love,

Cmdr Ipecac

Probably in the thread in hardware ;)

All DK2 backers are meant to be getting an email on July 1st with an update. Until then no one knows. At E3 palmer lucky said all still on schedule so my guess is end of July, start of Aug for it to be in our hands. I can't wait :)

Occulus has been building them for a while, and a handful have been shipped to developers they're trying to court. I'd bet you a new Eagle that if Frontier doesn't have one already, there's one in the mail.

The problem is that even if you got your hands on the kit today, it wouldn't be much use since I don't think the DK2 SDK is out yet, and the DK2 isn't really compatible with the DK1 SDK. (It works, but not well, and you won't have access to most of the features that make the DK2 worthwhile.)

Once they ship, expect a big initial shipment all at once, though, rather than the trickle that was the DK1. Even then though, it wouldn't be of much use in Elite until it gets patched to use the new SDK. (PB3?)

Frontier has been having that for about(at least) a month now...

1) I am pretty sure I read DK2 is already supported in Elite

2) numerous of the demos work in DK2 already (I was looking at some roller coaster apps last night)

3) The beta Rift SDK which is available to backers DOES support the DK2

so in conclusion... its all good, bring it on :)

Yeah I saw an interview where Mr B said DK2 was all good for Elite. Same interview probably.

Regarding the August ship date, the website says new orders are shipping in August, the initial march 19 orders are supposed to ship in July so I was posting in hopes of an idea of how July is July.

Elite is AMAZING in DK1. Imagine all the text we'll be reading come July!!

I think the link is elsewhere on the forum but the mod on the OR forum posted a week ago that he would be posting an update around 1st July letting people know.

Until then the agony of waiting continues...

Aghhhhhh!

I've added your thread into the main non ed thread.

But AFAIK those who ordered pretty sharpishly should get theirs in July.

I thought I saw something that OR will be emailing early July etc.

Fingers crossed.

FD is not allowed to offer workarounds around it's hardware capabilities under some legalese.

The DK1 officially supports 1920x1080 as input. It's in the specs and the control box identifies it as an available resolution once connected to the PC. I doubt that is the reason.

It's probably something internal about the renderer. It's beta, I wouldn't stress out too much about it.

Something like this, perhaps
