If anybody wants to go looking for ruins

As a result of a recent CG, FDev have given the systems in which more alien ruins can be located in a GalNet article here. Or here's just the list of systems:

Synuefe ZL-J d10-119
Synuefe XO-P c22-17
IC 2391 Sector ZE-A d101
IC 2391 Sector GW-V b2-4

Personally, I wonder how they expected us to find these systems. (Of course, maybe they didn't.) I'll also be curious about how long it'll take for them to be found now, as there are no further hints as to which body they might be on, nor any coordinates.

Best of luck to those who'll search! I'd join in too, but I'm quite far from these.

Am currently at IC 2391 Sector ZE-A d101 - anyone else?

I never really understood how we're supposed to actually look for them - planets are really big, even a small moon is a big place to search.. we need some kind of an anomaly scanner, something similar to the SRV's but on ships / fighters..

I sincerely hope you meant 'Ls', not 'LY' there!

Yes, Ls - edited, thanks.

Yes, yes we do... I think it's time explorers started making the kind of noise the PvP folk like to make.

Cant be. I was heading out from the bubble towards bovomit sector yesterday with my Anaconda and after 3000 LY i decided to turn back and take my Clipper instead. Again after 2000 Lys i realised that the clipper even with 38 LY range wouldnt be the best idea so i turned back again to use the Anaconda. Now i am again 3000 LYs out and i read this.[yesnod]

Exactly what Newman said. I still don't understand how people *search* for ruins. I found the Synuefe ruins because I already had the coordinates from the forum, but even then it was incredibly difficult to get to the exact location and I didn't see them until I was literally on top of them.

The idea of flying around randomly across various planet surfaces seems a bit pointless given the size of area to be covered. If there is some method people use, I'm all ears ,and eager to learn, of course.

Yes, the method has a name and its called exploration. ;)
If thats not enough for you, feel free to add a bit of roleplaying there, and boom, you have Indiana Jones in space, looking for ancient stuff from places where no one has ever been. :D

I've already posted a "suggestion" to make the "Detailed Discovery Scanner" actually *do* something useful (LINK)

... but shiny weapons colours, etc are clearly more important :x

Yeah.... That's quite possibly the most boring thing I've ever done, an hour + wasted, especially when I saw the "server reset in 55 minutes" message - which to me is code for:
"Whoops - forgot to include the new assets, better slip'em in before anyone notices."

ie - I could have flown right over it and not seen it because it wasn't there.

Decided to head back to Palin and get my name tagged on a planet or two in the some of those systems - I did succeed with a single tag. Yeay me! At least I now have Palin at Level 5... Time to do the dirty.

Well...and they are rebooting the servers again [haha]

Given the bugginess, followed by the not only denial of said bugginess, but definitive reassurance that everything had been tested and was working as intended, and now the appearance of this mystery being rolled out in storyline fashion, and not actually being solvable...and compounding that...the sever lack of any useful planetary type scanner, sensors, or anything...the interest and excitement has completely evaporated for me.

I have arrived in the system farthest out (Synuefe ZL-J blah blah), scanned all of the bodies (because why not), and have begun my search.

I don't know if there is a really reliable method outside of burning the luck you should have used on the lottery, but I'm basing my search off of some assumptions, which may or may not end up bearing fruit. No way to know for sure, but I feel like my method is as good as any:

Think about the criteria we would use in choosing a world to colonize - while there is no reason to believe other entities would do the same, I don't see any better way to try to narrow your search. Again, I feel this method is as good as any for a single Commander.

The best way, imo, is for several Commanders to basically form a drag net on a chosen planet, and cover a lot more ground in the same given timeframe. With the lack of refined tools, we need to rely on the old 3y3ball5 2.0 technology, and the more that are present, the higher the chances of success.

I am nearly in the bubble, I may fly over once I have purchased my new ship, if there are any left t find that is!

im searching random deep space systems for alieny stuff

I figure finding alien ruins on a planet can't possibly be any harder than finding geysers and fumaroles right? And I'm good at that!

Good luck in the dark :D

652ly to the nearest possible site, that's not bad. Just got to get there without being destroyed or it's back to Hilary Depot for me!

Good luck trying to find it, 160 hours were spent by a commander trying to find one of the sites in the Hawkins gap, 160 mind numbing of beige searching hours. If that sounds like fun I have some paint you can watch dry coming up soon, as one Cmdr said a dss that gives you a rough idea where things are would be handy, not a big look at me it's easy button as some cmdrs fear but say a 30 to 50 km search radius is shown on the map giving you a idea that something interesting is in that area

I'd even take 1000 km x 1000 km.

Well, while the ruins are much larger than geyser / fumarole sites, they don't show up as blue circles on the radar. So the only instrument you can use to find them are Mk. I Eyeballs. Depending on visibility, they can be hard to notice even if you do know their coordinates - or maybe it was just me back then, heh. It would be nice if FD placed these ones on tidally locked bodies though.
