If anybody wants to go looking for ruins

Well, the data in the first ruins tells us that the Guardians left for population issues, not because they wanted to go out and explorer. There certainly wasn't a "space race". Ideally, the new site would be able to support their life.

Uh what? What data in the first ruins? And how was it announced that the ruins are from "Guardians"?? The Galnet article was the first I saw the Guardians mentioned. Were there a bunch of articles I missed somehow??

Edit: Okay never mind, I've caught up now... Holy cow I guess I missed a lot of stuff! I didn't realize the Dec 9 Galnet article from Ram Tah was some kind of mission thing, and that I didn't need to have him unlocked to be able to participate. [sad]

Good luck trying to find it, 160 hours were spent by a commander trying to find one of the sites in the Hawkins gap, 160 mind numbing of beige searching hours. If that sounds like fun I have some paint you can watch dry coming up soon, as one Cmdr said a dss that gives you a rough idea where things are would be handy, not a big look at me it's easy button as some cmdrs fear but say a 30 to 50 km search radius is shown on the map giving you a idea that something interesting is in that area

It would be helpful to even have an indication as to which planets/moons have POIs of interest, so you could skip some of the fruitless searching.

As it turns out, five hours ago zorbaq discovered a "new" set of ruins, so it took five days of brute-force searching a couple of needles in a haystack to find one. I said "new" because of the three ruin layouts, it uses the same as the first ruin site, and also gives the exact same data.
Frankly, Frontier should have made sure that the layouts are unique to each site. Somebody's going to be in some hot water for this, I think.

In any case, if anybody wants to go and visit this site, it's on IC 2391 Sector GW-V b2-4 B 1, coordinates -29.1, -30.51. For screenshots and such, the original post is here.

Well that's kinda lame (that it's an identical layout).

I was searching that very system last night, and banked on planet A1 as it is the only planet in that system with a temperature close to the first ruins planet (315K vs 300K). Planet B1 is only 222K. I guess we can't use environmental params to "science" our way through it. [sad]

You would think the Discovery Scanner's would show anomaly detected or something and help you zero in - having to rely on eyeballs only is a bit 19th century...

Never mind the 19th century.
Here's an 18th century telescope I would pay a few mil to fit to the bridge of my AspX right now...

The identical layout doesn't bother me in the least, I am sure in 100,000 years time when humanity is long gone aliens will be wandering though the galaxy complaining about identical abandoned space stations and planetary bases everywhere trying to figure out whether this type of space station was made by the same species as that type of space station etc :D

It bothers me that there was apparently no clue we could use to narrow the search area. In the system I was searching there was only one volcanically active body, also that was the only body with the new brain trees, that had to be significant right? Sadly no, I should have ignored all that and spread my search around a bit more because the alien ruins were found on a body with no volcanism, that just left me with about 20 or so planets to search.

Here comes the third ruin site, and finally it's of a different layout. It was found by CMDR Khenistry on the Xbox, and it's in IC 2391 Sector ZE-A d101 C 3. Coordinates: 29.42, -59.54. Yeah, that's the system where the entry point is over 300k ls from the planets.

Still waiting for good quality pictures of the site, but it has been confirmed that this one gives out different data.

This does make me wonder whether the second site reusing the first's layout was intentional or a bug. Could have been a simple typo. I guess we'll see if there's a fourth site or not.

Huh, I'm on C 3 A, been searching it sector by sector for the last week thinking the presence of the brain tree's was a clue, yeah right! Before I abandon the alien sites altogether I will get some decent screenies at least.

Ok I am there, it's dimly lit, I will add pics to this post for now.

From top down a couple of klms up.

And near obelisk with a good view over other interesting looking items. A lot of noise here, clicking, clicking, aaaaargh make it stop!

I will continue to take pics, if you see anything you want a closer image of let me know. if I'm still here I will grab it.

The large central mound has a terraced inner hollow with many strange devices;

That's it for now, I have more but it's time for me to eat so won't post any now, if you want more let me know.

After some Commanders (noodlz05 first) finally completed the Ram Tah missions, Frontier advanced the story with a GalNet article about Ram Tah making a breakthrough. Long story short, the Guardian ruins now show up as "Ancient Ruins" POI-s if you are within the standard 1000 ls detection range.
There was also an earlier article hinting that there are lots of ruins out there, probably in an area the size of the bubble, and so far we've only found the Guardians' farthest outposts. So, "if anybody wants to go looking for ruins" (to repeat myself), it looks like we now have a shot at finding where the aliens have fled from - and perhaps what they have fled from?
