Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

Okay... so after having come up with something like this:

NBBHU55.jpg

After hours and hours of trying to make it work with 4 sites - I gave up - so instead, I worked once more on trying to decipher with a compass and ruler - and came up with this:

ZkVlAE3.jpg

On your planet, try (search within 3 or 4 degrees of those just to be sure):

Longitude / Latitude

1) -64.xxxx by -31.xxxx
2) -31.xxxx by -61.xxxx
3) 64.xxxx by 31.xxxx
4) 31.xxxx by 61.xxxx

Incredibly simple? Yes.

Triangles included at all inclinations? Yes.

Line up with triangles atop the pyramid? Yes.

Dodgy numbers that make 8 bit, 16, 32 bit, 64 bit, 128 bit? Yes.

Look like something someone would do if they are obsessed with computing and AI? Yes.

Let me know if you go looking - I'm going to search all 4 locations at 11 B.

Checks/test/reminders of things

Ok, I have just been at the ruins checking and testing a few things. Here's the results:

  1. This version of the ruins also has the slight differences in the alignments of the obelisks which were spotted in the old version of the ruins and could represent a trinary code
  2. The object inside the relic is visible from the srv, not just from the debug cam and is therefore legitimate
  3. It should be possible to measure heights of things at the ruins - I was only able to test the principle though, and started getting hit by CTDs before I could actually try any proper measurements.

I've got pics, but it's late, I need sleep and I'm not going to stay up longer to upload them tonight. So no pics yet, but it happened.

TEST PLEASE

If you go to space trees, take some ancient item with you, do not forget the crystal at the top of the old pillar. Drown them before harvesting the tree please

You are in the front line.

Have you tried the thargoid artefacts in the system?
(The blue little to orient?), (Or the red maybe, will it give a new signal?)

[where is it]

bonne chance !

I've wondered a few times if this mission was dreamt up by FDevs anti-cheat team. Give the players a mission that you need to re the game or data files to solve and ban them. Overly cynical perhaps :p

Looking for coords from the ruins is an untrustworthy approach. There's no evidence that Aliens count angles like we do and even if they did, their 0,0 is probably not our 0,0, either. We don't even know if they count base 10. We've seen morse and octets, and the value of octets were in a measurement defined by a planet.

The rings seem important, merope 5 has a HUGE number of rings and the planet looking up at them was the focus of the UP. The known ruin's shape might be referencing the ringed giant and the moon. Instead of looking at coords, we should be looking at planets that have sight of 2 celestial bodies at regular intervals. Would narrow down the search considerably. Even more so if we can related the current ruins ability to show ringed giant rise. I believe one of the channels on in the ruin marked rise or fall. Knowing that could help us use planetary positions to mark a planet's quadrant.

I am not sure but as far as I can see, the coord he came up with are based on geometry which should be universal between different species and cultures, same as mathematics are universal as well. Numbers, signs and language itself aren't of course.
If you use geometry it would translate automatically to whatever number system you are using. It doesn't matter if the aliens devide angles in 800 degrees or 5 degrees or ABCD degrees or whatever they have. In the end it will add up because it's a map based on geometry. At least that's how I think it is, unless I got that totally wrong.

so earlier people were looking at the objects on the ground and trying to relate them to the systems given by ram. I noticed that it looked like if you flipped it and centered on the mounds it might line up better. I dont have the ability to do it, but ill try to find the linked post.

I've tested something what bothered me a bit.
The ruins ambient sound.

It appears around 5-7km around the site.
You can hear it start at ~6km above the site. When you go higher, the ambient disappears and the normal planet ambient starts.
When you fly 5-7km in each direction, same thing happens. Its like a 6km ambient sound sphere around the site. :D
Maybe that could help a bit. So you dont have to look for the ruins, only hear. (Specially for night times?)

Here an audiosample:

Btw:
Screenshots at different distances.

Hard to see at 7km+, but visible. even the ruin itself with some details from obelisks and "metalbars" around.
The problem... you have to know what are you looking for... and where it is... :/

I'm kinda tired of eyeballing for ruins, so I'm eyeballing trees instead. I looked around a bit in C 3 A's parent planet for more braintrees, but I couldn't find anything. Then again the buggers are small and their POI signature is barely visible on smallish resolutions. I kept my checking mostly to the large craters with (insert scientific term here) blast wave-thingies shooting out from the edge of the crater. Nothing so far, but I'm currently thinking on the line that the spores(?) they originate from were carried there by meteors. This would explain why they've so far been found in 2 craters (How even the toughest spore could survive that kind of impact shakes this up a fair bit), and would warrant seeing if the larger body would also have them in similar craters. I'm also somewhat curious to the red coloration of some of the canyons on C 3 A. Never seen that anywhere else, but I haven't seen or heard anything out of the ordinary while flying in and around them.

I also took the liberty of recording a bit of the braintrees' shrieking and running it trough an online audio spectrum. Don't believe it has any real significance, but whatever. I'm enjoying messing around with the things. I'm sure they're not dangerous.

Geometry is geometry but he used two angles from it and applied to coordinates. Our Ships give a planet a 0,0. Which is on the equator somewhere. Just because we picked a point on the planet as 0,0 doesn't mean another race would pick the same point. They can pick any other point on a planet's equator as an origin then give us coordinates. We go to those coordinates as displayed on our ships and nothing will be there. Without knowing both races use the same point of origin, we can't use coordinates.

I think we need to have a better understanding of what the actual function of site 1 is. If we can figure that out, then we can make better guesses as to where the other sites would need to be located.

We still can use angles to some degree:
If we have two angles, we can add and subtract them. No matter how the aliens defined them, the resulting angle will be the same, just expressed differently.
Because we can still add and subtract angles, we can scale them. We just need to ensure that the number itself is a blackbox, aside from comparisons with other angles and of course the aforementioned calculations. The basic trigonometric functions should also still work, especially tan can be used, as tan is just sin/cos, but this is getting off topic.
As for where 0 is: if the planet rotates around its own axis, we can assume that the poles and the equator would be special areas, at least one of them likely to be 0. As for axial tilts and orbit inclinations, we can also assume that the alien 0 is either at our 0°, our 90°, or at the galactic plane, and that it is either relative to the main body, parent body, orbit or galactic plane. Simply because choosing another 0 will make navigating harder, and it is stated that the guardians disliked being wasteful. However, even if we don't know where 0 is, we can still measure angles between multiple points.
