Any grind, is in your mind.

All I got out of all this was the confirmation of the fact that everyone perceives things differently. The OP's opinion is not going to change my perception of things when the game forces me to do repetitive tasks for little or no reward and that take up exorbitant amounts of time. As a result, I do feel that the game can be tedious and boring more often than not, regardless of how much I might "role play" and try to pretend otherwise. If that fits the definition of "grind" for some folks, then so be it. It's not my place, nor anyone else's, to tell them they shouldn't feel that way and that they don't have a valid reason for voicing their opinions as such if they like. Just because the OP has figured out a way to trick his mind into thinking it's NOT a grind, doesn't mean that it isn't. (But hey, good for him, right?)

For the most part, I like playing ED, but it's not at all unusual for me to literally fall asleep in my chair while playing it, even if I'm playing during the day after having a very restful 8 hours of sleep. I don't know of any other game that does that except Farming Simulator... so draw your own conclusions, I guess.

Digging up an old one here, but I only just read your post via your signature in a different thread ... and it's very very well put. Some nights I enjoy mining for hours with some music on, probably not really making much cash, or rank, or anything "grindy", but I enjoyed it. Next night I want some pew-pew so I dock, fling over my ship, or buy a new one if i cba waiting for a dozen or so minutes, then go hunting - then I'll stay in this ship and carry on bounty hunting until I think I'm not finding it fun, then change to trading (to top up my wasted bank balance, as I enjoy trading too), or go exploring (which is now way better since the Visited/Non-Visited filter come along)... and so forth. By the time I get to the last task and think I'm now bored, I can go back to one of the earlier tasks and it's fun all over again!

Or I play a different game for a while, or god forbid just read a book or watch TV, then come back (normally within days though, as is the addiction!!)

Can't agree more. It does seem to be a modern disease that by buying and playing a game, some players feel that they have a right to have the Devs modify it to suit their immediate demands.

I realise tha games can be modified and improved, but in general I wish more people would play the games they like, and stop playing the ones they don't. I do get weary of players who are trying to change something that I like playing into something they *think* they'll like playing.

I'm not angry or ranting, but, I'd like to go to Sag A. I just cant stand the loading screen for hour after hour. That's a grind, no? It gets in the way of a thing I want to do, so I'll avoid that thing. If getting to Sag A was somehow fun with the journey, I'd go.

Problem with all these arguments is Grind and Fun are reletive terms, you're fun may not be the next commanders and so on. But if it's really that bad go play something more to you're liking. I have to congradulate frontier on making a game so addictive that even people that say they don't like the gameplay still play anyway. you're doing something right and as long as you keep the fundementals of scale you will have many of us playing for many years to come. There are many things in the game that need improvment and many things that need to be added but on balance it is still the best space sim in the world, i know it, you know it and the complainers know it.
