I'm able to login and tried to play. Again my 325A spun off into the black. Respawned it, got in then rammed a freelancer. Popped back in to find my mouse no longer worked in first person, but did in third person...

You are lucky :)

I now get no response at all after credentials. Could be a local internet outage I suppose (browses internet quite happily) or a problem local to CIG's authenticators (pings them quite happily too) or maybe my PC's are all just so much potatos that Genuine Roberts deems them unworthy of testing his masterpiece.

Three are on completely separate WAN's so maybe it really is just me :D

Might be Amazon. I mean, they're on Lumberyard, right?
So it's gotta be Amazon's fault, right?

Trying to get in mind of SC backer :D

I see they've been showing off a lot of screenshots/concept art for habitation units and bases on planets. From what I understand that stuff is not coming any time soon.
Why do they not show off any gameplay features which are meant to be coming in the near future, ie 3.0? Why do we not see how trading will work, or how smuggling will work, or piracy or bounty-hunting and so on?

Actually his definition seems to be very similar to Chris Roberts':

Chris Roberts definition of Alpha seems very clear, ie functionality and feature complete. With beta only left to fix bugs and add content.

According to Chris Roberts own definition what CIG has put out there so far could not be considered an alpha, far from it. The decision to reverse his own definition and call this Alpha was probably purely a commercial one presumably to generate the ilusion of progress and support further pledges.

Touché!

Have some Virtu-Rep™ for digging this gem. I'd love to read fidels' comments on that. Too bad they're on my ignore list :)

Probably because 3.0 does not exist at this point...I do expect 3.0 in 2017 Q4...that is one year late
Also I have bad feeling that in CIG most staff are 3D artists, concept artists and managers and there are not enough gameplay devs...
So still in 2017 CIG main focus are concept art and jpg sales...

Now I See The Full Potential

I play this game since 2.0, but since I had no friends playing Star Citizen I was always a lone wolf. Today I got bored, so I boarded a random ship. One thing lead to another and I had a 4 hour session with Americans, Canadians and someone from Switzerland, while I was from Germany. I had a blast, more so than any time before. This game unites people who don't know each other and transforms them into a team in a matter of minutes. I always thought of Star Citizen as a good and ambitious game in alpha, but now I see that it is an already great game, that only gets better, because the best thing was already achieved, unity.

Unbelievable! An online game that lets you play with people from around the world.
Another first for CIG...

OMG! I understand excitement and whatever but this got to be a paid guy... :/

Or someone who has not experienced the wonder and power of the internet before.

because the best thing was already achieved, unity.

Well, if that's the best thing, and its already achieved, kudos! I guess CiG can relax now :D

And how wonderful that these stories repeat almost themselves with such regularity and are almost exactly the same.

It is like someone would post them on regular basis like it would be their job.

....

Said that though, I hope Commanders update in ED will bring some fun working together as team. Wings are actually good, networking issues aside, but there's a lot of things that can be improved.

Will see, but I am quite skeptical about this, since I do not see point to use multicrew to pilot one ship, that already is very "pilotable" by one cmdr..maybe this is good update for pilots who are bad/average in combat..

And big question is how fun are those other activities like pip management or just sitting doing nothing...

I just hope FD finally introduces CoOp mission support with this update...

Multicrew makes more sence in SC, at least on paper due fps and ship design, but of course the same questions arise is it fun to manage shields or just waiting for that fps combat for 30 minutes of example...

Probably multicrew is just start for space legs, basically FD will do that SC promised 5 years ago...

But you know that FPS, especially boarding is planned for ED?
