News 2.3 Dev Update

Ah crap. Something just occurred to me.

Let's say you're in a ship as crew and go exploring? To you carry the scan data back to your ship? Can you collect credits from universal Cartographics? Do you have to be on board the ship to collect? What if an explorer from Beagle point gets a crew member when they dock and then cashes in the data?

You say bounties will be equal (printing money?) but what about trade, mining and missions?

Explorer's plan.
Right before cashing in discovery, join as crew member, all monies doubled.
When the other explorer is ready to cash in, same thing.

I might have said this already but let's use the commander creator more than once with the option:

Join remote crews as alternate commander: [yes/no]

if yes, you get to use the commander creator again to create your alter ego to play as for those that don't want to be teleported.

Same rules otherwise.

Oh and please make our title MATE or something else than CMDR when we are crewing.

I really like this solution, it fixes lots of things.

Altough I perfectly understand the reasoning behind this multicrew system - I was hoping for something different (meet at a station to be able to board for example). This game is getting more and more a total mess of mixing simulation and arcade play styles. I have to get npc crew at a station via the crew lounge, but can insta invite cmdrs to fly with me - total unlogical. Maybe a solution would be to have seperate elite versions, one arcade style with all the phew phew insta cqc fun and one for serious gamers who like to be immersed in a living and breathing universe in a quasi space simulation oriented game (what I thought elite was meant to be originally). Dont get me wrong, I consider the wish for fast fun gameplay with friends not at least illegitimate, its just not my reason why I bought ED in the first place. But as ED grows more and more complex I think mixing all play styles together wont really work a la long. So maybe its better that multicrew doesnt offer anything for explorers, miners & traders, makes it more easy to ignore it at least ;) I really dont want to sound too negative, but I am quite unsatisfied with the planned implementation of multicrew as its being presented now.

Those thoughts were also going through my head this evening.

What about, for example, the Distant Stars Expedition - someone could in theory (if exploration credits are awarded to crew members) telepresence to a ship in that area - the pilot of that ship then does the ol' scanneroonie - you then un-telepresence back into the bubble. Do you have exploration scans to sell too?

Logic might suggest that only the pilot of the ship has that scan data - and the profit share will only happen when they sold the data, so that might be the case here. Then again this is FDEV :p

*Hears sounds of frantic re-coding* ;)

Thanks for the update Ed! Looking good so far :)

Question: will the 360 scanning thingy apply to Detail Surface Scanner as well, so we could explore the galaxy 2+ people in a ship with that scanning benefit?

As for instantaneous teleport/telepresence I think that gameplay > immersion in this case so I'm totaly positive for that option. Its same as cqc, just think of it in terms of quantum mechanics or something if You need. Or if You have - just move to other players' location and launch that function from there, just dont ruin the game for the rest. I think it's something completely different to what was before with ship transfers, for which i voted to be delayed.

my2 credits

Cheers! o7

So far extremly disapointed guys... I was kind a hopping fore more than shooting roles... Like engineering or something... will there be some non-shooting station please?

one more, join the ranks, wait in line... :(
Let's wait for further discussions. the streams will tell us more.

Wow, talk about underwhelming.

and another.

Obviously I am biased, there are pleased people in here, let's not forget. But they would'nt be displeased with something a little bit more rich than what is supposedly planned either.

+1

So far it's "a wing where you fly a fighter" and THIRD PERSON turret controls... I mean, c'mon, third person, really? Screw that. I was really looking forward to the PS4 release with multicrew but this preview so far is more than disappointing.

Also the whole magical space unicorn transportation stuff really doesn't seem to fit into the existing rules of the game.... unless Frontier have plans to re-invent the entire premise of players in the Elite universe and make us some god-grade immortal EVE-clones that can just jump between bodies at will.

Otherwise, having people whisking themselves to the other side of the galaxy in the blink of an eye just to see the latest discovery of someone who actually took the time to travel, or to get involved in conflicts hundreds of thousands of light years away without any risk or investment is just going to be nothing but a negative influence on the game and bring the game closer to a market that frankly will get bored and stop playing a couple of week after each major update or popular reveal anyway no matter what you do.

And there are those of us who feel exactly the opposite: that the game is too restrictive when it comes to things like that. I hate that I can only have one commander. I hate that I can't switch my POV between my different ships.

What's wrong with EVE-like clones? Would you rather have permadeath and have to start all over if your ship gets blown up?

If that's your playstyle, that's fine - but it should be our choice, not something forced on us because of the whim of a few people who think this game should be "realistic", when it's already anything but.

It wont let me rep you , so +1

I like the feature but it does sound to be ''multicrew light'' and telepresence does not cut it as the reason why you spawn in 20000LYs away when a ship can not do more than 20KM.

Well then make up something else in your mind that makes sense and enjoy. I am happy FD is intentionally making this easy to utilize. I dreaded for some convoluted explanation that involved timers and traveling great distances. The lack thereof is a /good/ thing.

This looks amazing on paper, good job Frontier! I have question, is it possible for me and my friends to land on a planet surface and each jump in in a vehicle if the ship now have multiple SRVs.. ?

I hope this info will be forthcoming, but the fact that they always lead with Combat? I really worry about the future of the game, since all non-combat aspects seem to be after thoughts at best.

Once I am back from the deep black and back in the bubble, I'm gonna buy a bounty hunting ship (With seats :) ) and offer spaces on said ship for real life cash whilst I am bounty hunting (just sit there and rake in the credits .. i make a lot bounty hunting!) ... is that ok?
