News 2.3 Dev Update

Two years have passed. Deep down, you know the answer ;)

The design of this game is a mess of inconsistencies, unbalances, things that should have been foundations for future things postponed indefinitely and relatively minor things prioritized and rushed out by lead designers that don't have the single clue of what they're doing.
This 2.3 stuff is obviously chopped, because originally the roles were 4 and well diversified, now we have the bare minimum just to push out this feature and add a little check to the list of things "to do", something went clearly wrong.

What happened to the roles that were lined out before? Too hard to implement? So instead we get the option of a turret gunner and/or an SLF pilot. Thats...pretty pathetic to be honest.

Take some notes Fdev, it would be really nice to cover that up during the stream. A simple acknowledgment would be nice.

No. ED has no background simulation of an economy as you would see in, say, Victoria 2. You cannot, for example, embargo supplies of a particular resource and have that affect production capability of products made using that resource. Nor can you, say, supply excess amounts of a resource and see the cost of a product made with that resource go down and/or its quantity increase as a result.

You just have a pile of goods that restocks automatically with no regard to any resources required to make them nor even any variation in amount made to cater to demand.

It doesn't feel real if you're trading. It feels like a glorified version of that old phone game "druglord". So it is not immersive, and all the whining about things like instant multicrew being unimmersive is being done in bad faith - you know and I know and everyone knows that this is not a sim, this is an arcade game at every level, from the capped speed to the fake economy to the hilarious oxygen supplies, and calls for immersion by these forumdads are nothing more than a cover for their demands for tedium because all they want is the original Elite with new graphics.
There is an economy, its just simplistic.

I don't have any friends. Can I please put an NPC on turrets, with them growing more accurate with their exp level?

That would be easy to do, right? Modify accuracy and jitter with crew exp?

Why would an NPC gunner be more accurate than your ship's targeting systems?

At least now we know why NPC crew isn't coming. Turret gunners just aren't needed, so the only thing going for it would be an extra fighter.

The game was advertised by immersion.
It promised a game full of semi-realism and even promised real time cargo loading.

From that point on I backed.

Immersion just means it feels real whiles you play it.
I stop to be a thing and instead I play as whoever I am in my game. and when I finish I am back to being me again.

Those ''rules'' are what the game was advertised on.
They kept going on about how it would be a full scale game , how everything would be hands on , how if you wanted to do something you had to do it first.

Many of us (not all) backed this game based on immersion.
I would pay per month for an extra ''immersive'' option that remains optional.

I didn't find anything saying about immersion or realism in the kickstarter page. Maybe you are looking or aspiring for a different game.

There is no economy, just magic stocks of goods that grow automatically with no production mechanic.

There IS production mechanic in background sim. In fact, outfitting will lose modules and ships if you will starve station from materials. Etc. It is not that pronounced or impacted by players - but sometimes it is.

Sadly: no you can't this update for now are only to player based crew. (That ruins all the work done, bcause only griefers will use this to hunt down explorers, traders, people doing comnnunty things like exploring the alien ruins.

My bad buddy, im sad too with this!

Only role missing is shield management which most likely is delayed due of outfitting changes FD plan to shields.

Well in that case there's immersion too. It's just simplified.
True to an extent.

My issue is that this sort of feature is the sort of thing they said they would not do in the early days.

They kept talking about ''plausibility'' ''immersion'' ''richness'' and of course ''realism when applicable''
In my opinion we have this , often to a stretch but we have it.

Instant ship transfer was game braking , this is not. its just immersion breaking.

As the economy relies on production from factories and supplie and demand. it restocks from time to time and a lot of that is driven by player data. its not a bad system , but it could do with extra work.

This is great, especially instant teleport for multi crew. The game's finally looking like a MMO.
Cant wait to kill a ship and it drop ''shards of anaconda'' once you have 250 shards you can get a ultra rare legendary LV25 anaconda.

The BGS gets a lot of flack and its a shame

Nope.

Fire control that isn't limited to turrets. Countermeasures. Engineering. Also, there is now only space for 3, not 4.

Instead, turret gunner, extra SLF. Now no matter which way you slice it, that sucks.

Dav Stott said in the recent stream that the main control on production is population and a few other system stats, but materials and commodities supplied to a station have zero influence on market production.

From the notes.. -Supplies and demands are based on population (presumably alongside previously mentioned metrics e.g. system planetary composition for extraction markets etc). Importing X will not help produce more of Y.

What happened to the 4th one?
Its very wierd...

I hope they adress it , I hope they do something with it in the future

Supply and demand numbers - yes, because those are mostly driven by NPC trading, but actual production chain is there.

I wish players could leave a bigger impact though.

Even in MMo's that heavily rely in magic teleportation, which also most happen to have magic in, almost in all cases you MUST at least visit that place once to begin using that ability and that is static places not mobile platforms.

Even in those games some other player casts a spell to open a portal to wherever you want to teleport or there are portals around which devs place where you need to GO TO FIRST to be teleported.

NOT IN ELITE THO! You press a button and PPPFFFTHOOOMPH
Hey i am at Colonia!

Space magic is best magic.

Can you tell that i am wrong GF?
