In addition to helm control, something that FDev either forgot about or forgot to mention was, letting friends drive SRV's. This would be an incredibly useful feature on expeditions, just for basecamp fun, or just friends helping gather jumponium quicker. But since they hate exploration so much, this would be awesome for coordinated base assaults, as well. But seriously FDev, I love combat to bits in this game, but every single update exploration is treated like the red headed stepchild. Every. Single. One. Sure, we got neutron boosts (after how many patches of being ignored?) but that's helping us get somewhere, it doesn't really provide additional exploration content. You can't just give us a billions of empty rocks and call that content... (silly me - of course you can - you did

)
There are additonal things you can let explorers do by using current game mechanics, and (probably) with minimal effort. An anomaly scanner on board a ship could use a similar mechanic to the SRV's wave scanner - only this one focuses on different types of artificial signals only. So we'd learn different signal types and know when to get excited, and when we're just picking up a crashed DBS with two containers of tea. Another thing you could do is something similar to the current limpet mechanics - probes. Think of it, you have to fly really close to an Earth-Like or Water World to deploy a life-form probe for additional biological data. Could be tied to specific missions as well. This lets you use ELW's and WW's before you make us able to land on them... So much could be done with minimal effort, it makes my brain hurt to think how relatively unchanged exploration has remained since the start.
