You already get magic multiplying bouties and reduced rebuys on artificially buffed ships which can do several things that the exact same ships without multi-crew cannot do. Is that still somehow not enough?

If ppl joining other ships don't get rewarded enough, or there aren't activities that reward enough so it is viable, it will be just one more failed expansion.

It smells like utter handwavium to make one ship the equal of two or three ships in a wing just because someone's holographic posterier is occupying a piece of cockpit furniture.AFK pips is only a thing if you buy a second account and have it sit there AFK, which would quickly fall in under macro'ing/botting.

The extra pip and such is needed however for there to be a reason for someone to do multi-crew rather than bring separate ships in the first place.
The choice between forming a wing of separate ships or doing multi-crew should be a matter of playstyle preference and not "this way is better or worse". Thus ships that are being multi-crewed need to be boosted in some manner to make them as good as bringing two ships of the same type without multi-crew.

Agreed. It almost seems like FD are afraid that multicrew would not be entertaining enough for players to actually want to use it. So they add nonsensical rewards to make it more attractive.
