I've invited 8 people to play the game. All of them got bored and left because the NPC's weren't a challenge, the economy was broken, and a lack of functional social tools.
It really has nothing to offer anyone who is used to playing modern multiplayer games.
The problem is because there is no story (and Galnet does not count) and very basic quests (missions) people usually think what is the point so I also have a hard time to convince people it is fun.
My friends who did play for the first year or so have left because the game has become an arcade shooter.
I can see why he said that, I like Euro TruckI even bought a friend a copy of ED when it was on sale, but he couldn't get interested, said it was like euro truck simulator in space, nothing meaningful to do.
Same story here with a mix of all these points. Had 9+ folks that I knew playing at one point but they've all moved on and most long ago. The reason is simply due to the game becoming an arcade / FPS-like shooter (except from a ship).
Sorry, but that line of reasoning is just projecting your own opinion on other people.
I invited a few people who enjoy multiplayer FPS. The game was boring for them.
It's just a boring game for most people. Period. Doesn't have anything to do with catering to one crowd or another, FDev didn't just missed the mark, they missed the whole dart board.
Most of us are still here for 3 reasons:
1: Fanboi
2: Lack of alternatives
3: Sunk cost fallacy in regards to time played.

Bought it for my brother. He played it twice.
Showed it to five friends who all bought it and played for a couple days each.
None of them take my advice about games very seriously anymore![]()
Number 2...thats really all thats left unless something monumental drops that we dont know about ^
Yet here you are, endlessly yapping on about how you're SO done with the gamemy good will for this game is well and truly gone. Recommend it? you have to be joking.

I have a friend who's a keen gamer but I'm having difficulty getting him into ED. He hasn't yet bought the game as he says prefers more action and I can't help but think he's simply dismissing ED as just being a space SIM. I've tried to explain to him that ED's so much more just than a space SIM, but he's not too fussed about buying and playing the game.
What's your experience? Did a friend have trouble getting you into Elite Dangerous? Are you having the same problem as me getting a friend into the game? Has a friend ever regretted getting the game? If so why?

A man can dream.Fairly sure if an alternative came along, these forums would be an awful lot quieter.
What about Star Citizen? Might be more up your alley. It's made progressI know Id be gone in a heartbeat...ED has itself become a placeholder...just treading water until the next one which will hopefully be better. FD started out good, but they have so dropped the ball lately. Gonna take more than vague hints and empty promises to fix this ^
