One: If your ship gets blown, you get the option of getting back the ship at its latest loadout back for a premium fee, or defaulting for the "free Sidewinder". That "loadout" means equipment, not cargo. Lesson: Never put all cash into the cargo, because you might end up losing your hauler and having to start over in a Sidewinder.
Two: You can see them on the radar before you even launch from the pad. Heck, you can scan them while still on the pad. Your options are a) return to hangar, launch later; b) exit at full thrust and make a run for it; c) exit at full shields, weapons hot to give them their due. Getting surprised by a missile salvo? Your fault.
Three: This game is expected to allow for pirating, and not only in "anarchy" systems. How do you expect that to work if police were coming down like a ton of bricks on everyone?
