SDC Presents: Operation Healies4Feelies

I doubt that... I never felt the need for any additional healing ability when farming RESs oder CZs. I usually leave those out of boredom after an hour or two with plenty of/all SCB charges left.

You are looking at it form the point of view of a veteran PvP combat pilot. All that counts for you is the outcome, not the way it was achieved. PvE and Solo players are different.

If SDC wants to reach a wider audience they need to adapt to the mindset of different audiences. Stepping out of their own filter-bubble (we all are in our own filter-bubble) and finding ways to affect the filter-bubble/opinion of those they want to influence.

Which is as expected...after all, pvp players think of themselves as being a cut above the rest, so you finding it easy really isnt that much of a surprise. But if ye were to demonstrate how easy it is fer half a dozen to farm them semi afk...well now thats a different scenario. Otherwise its just open players crying about open issues...boring heard it all before bla bla bla...

Brilliant! Wow. I'm genuinely impressed. Humorous, revealing and a great piece of video editing! I'm becoming a believer. SDC is actually contributing constructively to Elite: Dangerous.

Thanks for sharing the flawed game mechanic in such an intelligent and funny video production! Loved watching that vid.

But I really need to know the name of that yodling audio track. Outrageous. :)

My god, the forums went into melt down after 2.1 because the NPCs were too hard, they didn't even use torps or heat missles..
Please stop spouting that as if the NPCs weren't bugged like crazy when 2.1 was released (ie. Plasma spouting Multicannons).
Aside from removing the (bugged) Engineered weapons, the NPCs have hardly been touched since 2.1 was released (ie. post-Beta).

People rightfully complained when they were insta-killed by an NPC firing Plasmarounds like they were running out of fashion. The majority of those complaints were NOT because the NPC combat capabilities (ie. flying) were too difficult. Atleast get your story straight!

Lol I need them beams.

But then I need someone to follow me around with them.... :/
Bah!

That healing mechanic is well and truly broken. Lol

I'd say a 95% reduction in healing rate would solve that!

Or, simply add insane heat generation.
To both ships. (No effect on hostile ships)

I laughed too, though not fer the same reasons I suspect...its a funny example of a classic storm in a teacup. The pvp minority of which SDC are a very small, but highly vocal part of, are being griefed by another pvp wing...are told that the other wing is breaking no rules by using this mechanic...are not able to get much traction with their complaints, so they setup a salt mine to create a lot more noise and salt to further a cause that nobody but a very small group of players consider gamebreaking.

I dont hate SDC...I just regard them as being a bit like that kid pulling a wheelie on a bike only to watch the front wheel drop out the second it leaves the ground. Cant help but laugh at their antics, and when ye laugh hard enough and loudly enough, one of them always loses the plot and hilarity ensues on the forum.

But hate them? oh good heavens no...they great fer morale when they pull stunts like this which is why I truly hope FD ignores this issue entirely fer another 6 months, in the interests of milking yet more salt outta them fer minimum effort. Its all good karma...just a good laugh at the end of the day at their expense ^

And perhaps then spend the time wasted on more "PvP fixes" fixing items that 97% of the game's audience care about.
If you look hard enough you will always find an "exploit" (if that's what this canned video truly was) in any game.
And if that's what you live for then why play the darn thing in the first place.

Really?....

Just goes to show how little you know about PvP. A couple percentage points either way isn't going to make or break a fight, ED's skill ceiling is too high for that.

Understanding how the game works and using that to your advantage is a skill in itself. Next you'll be saying that flying in 3 dimensions is cheating and we should all be locked to a 2-dimensional playing field. You'll probably throw something in there about the field of vision of the human eye or something.

And your example was ignored because it's irrelevant. Seriously, what does it have to do with anything?

Challenge Accepted.

Flying in three dimensions is a skill, thinking in three dimensions more so, and there are no stats to boost for this - this is all on the pilot. Which is why I said the real test of skill is two pilots, one-on-one, in stock sidewinders. There's little skill at all in taking out a transport ship with a modded FdL, or swatting eagles in a python. Even in their stock states, statistics favor one ship over the other. It is only when all other factors are equal can the actual skill of the pilot be ascertained.

"Frontier did almost no testing..." - Source?

30 seconds in and I can see this video is going to go well... *eyeroll*

EDIT: I appreciate the goal here is to point out flaws to make the game better for everyone. But you have to question the intentions behind the approach and methodology. :|

No need. They're just using the given mechanics. I think the lesser you moralize, the better you can get a grasp of what's the point.

The principle is correct, of course, although I do believe that better identical loadouts could be devised, for achieving a good all-round test of PvP piloting skill, than stock sidewinders.

P.S. Remove all weapon special effects. The are all silly.
Though I've ground out a few of these, I have to agree. These experimental effects just make a mess of combat balance.
I realize this will never happen, as half the community would lose their minds if FD suddenly removed them from the game. Even though it would make a lot of sense.

I know it want happen. [cry]

Would have been good to get rid of them along with the synthesized premium ammo. That would have made it easier for people to accept stacking limitations or diminishing returns on SB, SCB, HRP and MRP as well.

I've noticed that when the PvP and PvE crowd gets into these forum pushing contests, some PvE player always brings up the whole "equal ships being the TRUE test of piloting skill" and then goes on to insist that a duel be performed in stock sidewinders. I even had one notable forumite denigrate my manhood for being unwilling to perform a duel with these restrictions after either wiping my save or buying a fresh account so the duel could be "pure."

I agree that trying to get the ships as close as possible is the best way to perform a true test of piloting skill, but I also agree with you that a better option exists. Someone wants to duel me they'd best be willing to put some skin on the line.

Maybe move some experimental effects over to synthesis in place of premium ammo like "High Yield Shell" & "Corrosive Shell".... Just a thought...

I saw that exchange, it was one of the funniest things I have seen on this forum. Like, why the hell would you buy a new account for a single duel? If anything get stockwinders from a shipyard, or a more fun ship like the viper or perhaps eagle. Demanding someone to buy a new account just for a duel is ridiculous.

Nobody making a suggestion along those lines has any intention whatsoever of actually coming out of their house to have a duel, they're simply blowing smoke.

Nah, because we'd still have the same issue. People would just stock up on healing beam mats, and we'd be right back where we started.
The simple damage buff ones are the only ones i think you can safely get away with. Anything "special" is bound to have an exploit discovered for it.
