News Ship naming – transmission intercepted.

"Others do it too!" is not much of an excuse, IMHO.

Pocket money prices though, is somewhat different to 1000's of dollars, sometimes asked.

I agree about 'lots of' when it comes to stocking fillers ...
Real sew on patches of the elite ranks, might be interesting one I sometimes think too.
(Do youngsters do sewn on patches any more? 2000AD turned 40 yesterday, back then patches were the mutt's!)

Speaking of cool things, Would it be possible to pass on to the development and marketing team about potentially.. either offering a variety of fonts/typefaces for hull ship names? Either as a store purchase add on or a selection for free upon nameplate purchase?

Different name plate per ship? Or one name plate to rule them all?

I'd like to know about this too

Some of you just look for something to complain about. You get to name your ship for free, which others will see. If you want vanity plates that mostly only you will see than yeah you will pay. This company is here to make money... to pay staff, if they make smiles along the way what a bonus. If you can't afford to game don't play, go to work.

I should imagine it is like decals- You buy a nameplate once and its available for all ships

But only that style of nameplate, and not the other styles too

No, servers aren't free. Neither is the game. Neither is Horizons.

FD are not a cosmetic factory, they are a professional game studio. If they cannot fund the costs of game making, they shouldn't be in business. Which is a moot point of course, since we know FD are doing well financially. FD are not Activision, but they are not Hello Games either.

I bet Hello Games are doing very well financially. Probably even better than FD.

Even activision sales cosmetics and in game currency and emotes for Destiny.

I've noticed on the ship skins that at least some if not all i think have a serial/registration ID on them some place so we're all currently flying about with the same ID painted on the ship

Will the name decals take their place? I'd have liked a unique ship ID system like aircraft to indicate origin/faction or whatever rather than our commander names showing without a detailed scan but whatever I'm happy just being able to name my ships, just curious is all

OK, i'm gonna say this again, because people refuse to listen.

Elite Dangerous is a full priced game. It is NOT F2P. Same for Horizons. Did you get them for free? No, you paid for them.

THIS is where a game development company makes it's money.

They are now, after release. Before the game was released they were a 13 member strong team working on an absolute shoestring. Maxed out credit cards and all.

I know Murray is a massive liar, but he said HG received no financial help from Sony at all.

The more cosmetic items the better imo...now give us furry dice!!!!11 penguin!

I want furry dice too but I think they'd be next to impossible to actually hang in most cockpits (as a physical representation).
However, I'd settle (and pay) for a holographic projection of furry dice.

It does seem just a little steep to require us to pay for a nameplate, but ok. I assume we're talking about £2 or so. I think free would be better for, say, a default white Arial font. After that, if you want the flaming, gothic font that lights up in the dark, charging for that would be fine.

Great! Now I have to think of names for every ship in my fleet.

Frontier once again have no respect for my time!!

(only joking, nice one FD!) :D

Rebel factions appear to have obtained secret information regarding the naming of ships and adding those names to Commanders’ hulls.

We can confirm that this information is correct and naming of ships is a feature that will be added to Elite Dangerous: The Commanders (2.3). Everyone will be able to rename their ship for free in game and there will also be the option to purchase cosmetic name plates which will allow Commanders the ability to display that name on your ship’s hull via a special decal. These additional features will be made available in the near future with a catalogue of designs. We’re looking forward to seeing you display your ship names with pride.

I can also confirm that the character limit for ship naming is determined by width.

Have a good evening.

Zac

Thanks Zac, a nice addition to our ship customization :)

The point is that it shouldn't be a paid cosmetic to begin with.

Yes... but when you like the game and want to support it, you pay.

But really, the game need more module, more weapon, more customisable ship part. More mission, more interaction...

Because it's a basic feature that many other games, including F2P games, give you for free. Because 'ship naming' implies an actual name on your ship hull. Because Elite and Horizons are full price. Because ship customization is a core tenet of the game and locking pretty much every visual customization behind a paywall really hurts that aspect of the game.

I wouldn't have a problem with paid fancy fonts like comic sans or something, but locking basic block lettering behind a paywall is a scummy move.
