Respected around the world? I live abroad and frequently travel to other countries. Most people, with the exception of the ultra liberal EU, consider him a joke. He has jacked up the national debt to astronomical records, set back race relations by 30 years or so. He has weaponized the IRS and now corporate tax rates are the highest in the world. In addition to the tax rate, extreme over regulation is killings small business. He presided over the lowest growth of GDP since Hoover. He selectively chooses which laws to enforce (such as immigration). Spent millions in tax payer dollars fighting states who try to actually enforce immigration law. Also tried to strong arm public schools and businesses to allow men to use the women's restroom. He has some responsibility for the creation of ISIS with his irresponsible Iraq troop withdrawal (shouldn't have been there in the first place, but since we were we should have made sure things were in order before leaving).

As an American who lives abroad he has even managed to screw me over with his FATCA tax law. A few months ago I received a letter from my bank informing me they were going to close my account because now Americans are too much trouble to deal with. Out of about 13000 banks in Hong Kong only about 5 will still serve Americans--and this is after a lengthy application process including a personal interview. I had to totally remove my name from my company and put all our accounts totally in my wife's name. Getting a mortgage, opening an investment account etc are nearly impossible. This has led to a record number of Americans to renounce citizenship, and instead of seeing a problem Obozo responded by raising the renouncation fee by over 400%. Obama was probably the worst president we have ever had, he is a disgrace; he is a two bit Chicago thug and I am glad he is gone--good riddance. Hillary was nothing more than Obama 2.0. Trump has pledged to repeal FATCA and lower corporate taxes, if he does I will be moving my business back to the USA.

Most people? As someone else in this thread said, you know most people around the world? Or is there a chance you are coming into contact with those who think in a similar fashion to you?

Small businesses are thriving in my neighborhood. Just furnished my home at a small furnitures store down the street that focuses on mid-century modern. Next door, I picked up some wonderful deli cuts and cheese from a fella that lives on my block. For dinner we ordered from a Thai place around the corner, also locally owned and then ended the evening at our local pub.

All the store fronts are full. The job listings are plenty. I don't know what 3of7 is on about but small business where I am is booming. This, even along a strip of businesses that were attacked by a riot mob after Michael Brown was shot. Republicans, in particular, have so little faith in the human spirit and the ability of communities to build greatness. Those that stick around and make American cities great are and have been succeeding.

Heck, we even got a whole new district in the city dedicated for start ups. Some really cool stuff going on there and its nearly full with tenants turning profits.

I was going to reply but when I read "thug" my racist flag went up and chose to not engage.

Id rep you but it wont let me.

Not unique to republicans. Liberals did the same thing in 2008 and 2012. It's just that the conservative protests and outrage died out much more quickly so it wasn't really the kind of thing we are seeing now that has protracted over multiple months.

See here's the thing. There's been a lot of analysis in the media about how the two sides in the US don't talk to each other or understand one another. It's being presented as a balanced issue where both sides are equally to blame.

That's pretty obviously nonsense. The republican side has increasingly abandoned science, facts and reason. Sure they refuse to accept things like climate change, or to actually look at statistics on crime, pollution, health-care costs, etc, but that doesn't mean that the lack of communication is equally the fault of Democrats. When one side in a conversation refuses to accept facts and escapes into the realm of made-up news and propaganda, what are the Liberals supposed to do?

All they can do is work on the basis of reason. If the other side doesn't want to hear any facts, they are beyond help.

I told you about the best milkshake I had in the U.S....
https://m.yelp.com/biz/three-georges-candy-shop-mobile

The lady working there is awesome. Not that fake friendly you get in many other places, but actually "warm".
The place is awesome, smells awesome and is just like "we" imagine the golden USA. It's in one of the "worst" inner cities in the US (bottom 6% of crime and murder rate).
It's improving too due to local initiative.. they're building from the absolutely gorgeous town square (French colonial style) outward. Make things neighborhoodly again. Years .. decades of neglect, and Wal-Mart-ism.

And world politics wise.. starting another stupid war in the middle east to help the Saudis and their cheap oil (like 60-70% of their GDP depends on it. .. they'd literally bribe anyone to ensure their dominance in the region) while weakening the NATO in favor of Russia and going into a trade war with China and Mexico?
Nothing to gain for the U.S. there, but I'm sure Trump will make a fortune. Emolument clause.

I'm aware of this but I think it is important to be the bigger person in all of it. I want one big American tent where we can all disagree but ultimately come together on doing right by the nation. Part of that, to me, is killing the rhetoric of "they said this bad thing, and aren't they so mean and unfair"

We are never going to reach people who might be perceptive to our message if we are constantly belittling their peers. Those people will come to the defense of their friends and neighbors before listening to your message.

If you want to draw lines, yes, there is clearly a side that uses more deceptive falsehoods than the other. This is objectively true. However, the method democrats have been using to oppose that is largely based in elitism and left over schadenfreude from the Bush disaster. This basically achieves ostracizing an entire group of people from the process. Rather, I'd prefer to extricate the peddlers of misinformation and deception. The corrupters and the corrupted need to be rooted out. There is a place for conservative and liberal ideas to actually go toe to toe and find the compromise that satisfies the most citizens. The people that hold the power, however, don't want you to find those compromises, rather they'd prefer us to squabble among ourselves while they increase their wealth.

Right, criticize Obama and you're a racist...... that defense doesn't work anymore. Bush was a thug too.

I happen to agree with both of you. There is a lot more crazy on the far right side, but we must not forget the far left either. Those who want to see all transportation shut down, for example, because we are actively polluting the world. Or even worse, those who do not understand GMO's and are claiming they are poisoning us while trying to solve the problem of more mouths to feed. We (everybody) needs to come together to form solutions. While I don't want to see borders removed (just yet) I think that there is a good chance one day you will see a global nation, much like the federation in star trek as apposed to something akin to the republic in star wars. I think those who staunchly appose globalism have to realize that there is enough people on the earth and enough different ideals that we can actively walk a line that takes care of everybody while removing those who seek to actively [and they do exist] destroy the machine that is humanity. I feel like our focus should not be on politics, but scientific improvement of our societies and planet, and as well the colonization of space. Even mega-religious republicans must get behind this. There is enough out there. Even in our solar system there are other places for us to live, and a bunch of resources, more than we realize, on the asteroid fields etc.

However, right now, we see the world being controlled by radicals. Radical Muslims, Radical Christians, Radical Liberals, Radical Republicans. There isn't much centrist around the planet. There are some countries with some wonderful ideals (like Finland) but there isn't as many as I would have expected by this time in our evolution. Something has to give, and I hope its not another planetary conflict which destroys even more of our ecosystem and kills millions upon millions of the worlds population.

Bush was an idiot. He wasn't a thug. Didn't have a thug bone in his body. Neither did Obama. And no, you're a racist if you give black men the title of thug. You have a plethora of words to choose from, you selected that one. Not saying you are a racist, but the tone you are taking is right on that line... try another word.

No realized its all over the place. They have muslim ones up there in those floats. And ones about democracy.

What do you mean by Failing Europe so dangerous friend?

What do you mean by Failing Europe so dangerous friend?

Trumps rhetoric about failing Europe.
That merkel invited all those terrorists in and that it's all riots and bloody slaughter over here.
Police was very well prepared this time. All pretty quiet. No major incidents.

I did actually go out myself to check the preparations before even considering letting my daughter run around such events, just to make sure. But all went well.
It's about 10.000 active carnivalists and 400,000-600,000 visitors per major carnival city in Germany, so not exactly a small event. (Yes, we are weird).

And that's the "German" fight against terrorism. We shall not abandon our tradition (carnival has a several hundred year tradition) or our "political carnival" ..who mocks all of the high and mighty. Speaking truth to power. Freedom of speech. Sounds familiar ?

I didn't say anything about your criticism about Obama, except some wording that alarms me. You're entitled to those opinions and I might have debated you on them...however when you talk about race relations being set back but still use "thug" in your description of a black man or anyone, I lose my appetite for engagement.

I've grown up brown in the Midwest, I know what the context for "thug" is when used by a lot of white people (not all). It is a code word for the N-word. Perhaps you didn't mean it that way, so instead of getting upset about I just ignore any arguments that use it, no matter who it is applied to.

What is meant by calling Obama a thug? Because when I hear it, it says "n-word gang banger."

It is more appropriate, and wholly more descriptive and useful to your argument if you say Obama is a totalitarian despot, for example.

When I say thug I mean someone who is shady and attempts to strong arm people. Some example of his administration's shady actions include fast and furious gun running, NSA spying etc. His attempt at strong arming includes trying to force people to openly embrace the trans lifestyle (I don't want by daughter sharing a shower room with a guy at school no matter how politically correct it is), suing states that try to enforce the law, imposing extreme hardship on American expats etc. It has absolutely nothing to do with his race, I actually supported him during his first term and I was proud to have a black president. I wanted him to be successful and it was such a disappointment that he turned out to be a near total failure. when I say he set back race relations, I am referring to his actions such as openly supporting BLM, an organization that has openly called for the killing of cops; his DOJ refusing to investigate or prosecute members of the black panther group for blatant voter intimidation and terroristic threats etc.

I think I have a very good reason to be bitter. If you lived abroad, and had your bank accounts closed, be treated like a second-class citizen when doing any type of financial transaction you would probably be very bitter too.

Trump is not perfect, far from it--he is actually a pretty bad candidate (I supported Cruz and Rand). But when you compare him to Obama or Hillary he is a 100 times better and if he doesn't deliver on his promises, it will be a one term deal.

Aye.
Germany has a bit of an Tradition to Display Mockery of the most stupid Politics on Carnival :p
