See here's the thing. There's been a lot of analysis in the media about how the two sides in the US don't talk to each other or understand one another. It's being presented as a balanced issue where both sides are equally to blame.
That's pretty obviously nonsense. The republican side has increasingly abandoned science, facts and reason. Sure they refuse to accept things like climate change, or to actually look at statistics on crime, pollution, health-care costs, etc, but that doesn't mean that the lack of communication is equally the fault of Democrats. When one side in a conversation refuses to accept facts and escapes into the realm of made-up news and propaganda, what are the Liberals supposed to do?
All they can do is work on the basis of reason. If the other side doesn't want to hear any facts, they are beyond help.
I'm aware of this but I think it is important to be the bigger person in all of it. I want one big American tent where we can all disagree but ultimately come together on doing right by the nation. Part of that, to me, is killing the rhetoric of "they said this bad thing, and aren't they so mean and unfair"
We are never going to reach people who might be perceptive to our message if we are constantly belittling their peers. Those people will come to the defense of their friends and neighbors before listening to your message.
If you want to draw lines, yes, there is clearly a side that uses more deceptive falsehoods than the other. This is objectively true. However, the method democrats have been using to oppose that is largely based in elitism and left over schadenfreude from the Bush disaster. This basically achieves ostracizing an entire group of people from the process. Rather, I'd prefer to extricate the peddlers of misinformation and deception. The corrupters and the corrupted need to be rooted out. There is a place for conservative and liberal ideas to actually go toe to toe and find the compromise that satisfies the most citizens. The people that hold the power, however, don't want you to find those compromises, rather they'd prefer us to squabble among ourselves while they increase their wealth.
I happen to agree with both of you. There is a lot more crazy on the far right side, but we must not forget the far left either. Those who want to see all transportation shut down, for example, because we are actively polluting the world. Or even worse, those who do not understand GMO's and are claiming they are poisoning us while trying to solve the problem of more mouths to feed. We (everybody) needs to come together to form solutions. While I don't want to see borders removed (just yet) I think that there is a good chance one day you will see a global nation, much like the federation in star trek as apposed to something akin to the republic in star wars. I think those who staunchly appose globalism have to realize that there is enough people on the earth and enough different ideals that we can actively walk a line that takes care of everybody while removing those who seek to actively [and they do exist] destroy the machine that is humanity. I feel like our focus should not be on politics, but scientific improvement of our societies and planet, and as well the colonization of space. Even mega-religious republicans must get behind this. There is enough out there. Even in our solar system there are other places for us to live, and a bunch of resources, more than we realize, on the asteroid fields etc.
However, right now, we see the world being controlled by radicals. Radical Muslims, Radical Christians, Radical Liberals, Radical Republicans. There isn't much centrist around the planet. There are some countries with some wonderful ideals (like Finland) but there isn't as many as I would have expected by this time in our evolution. Something has to give, and I hope its not another planetary conflict which destroys even more of our ecosystem and kills millions upon millions of the worlds population.

Right, criticize Obama and you're a racist...... that defense doesn't work anymore. Bush was a thug too.
Bush was an idiot. He wasn't a thug. Didn't have a thug bone in his body. Neither did Obama. And no, you're a racist if you give black men the title of thug. You have a plethora of words to choose from, you selected that one. Not saying you are a racist, but the tone you are taking is right on that line... try another word.
