Wait, wait, wait! So even when you`ve bought everything you still have to buy the Beta?

In a Court of Law with any other product this would be considered malpractise and the company fined. I kid you not.

Because in Soviet Russia, beta testers pay the developers to participate in beta tests!

Oh, wait. We're not in Soviet Russia.
It's the European Union. Close enough.
Not for long. Cue Brexit anthem.

I see. So most of you are happy with this. Let me explain my side:

It`s not about entitlement. It`s not about how cheap it is. I can afford it easily.

It`s about charging people for something they`ve already paid for. And the fact that you all knew about this doesn`t help us recent newer guys.

But the main point again is, it`s simply not right. I don`t care how you try to reason it away. It`s ripping people off for something they already paid a fair bit of cash for. If you`ve bought EVERYTHING like I have, including the beta you`re going to get anyway, then it makes complete and logical commonsense that you wouldn`t be charged for a beta of it.

How can anyone have a hard time understanding that? Wow, they really did a number on some of you.

Unruddybelievable.

And yes, I will wait. The Devs will not get one single extra penny from me this ripoff.

Anyone else watching and thinking about buying the full game and season pass- BE WARNED.

You're embarrassing yourself.

Is this where the question now gets answered 40 times?

Give it a rest, dude has his answer, next move is his right?

In your honor, I'll make a small digression :)

Aaaaah. Back in the days, when betatesting was an actual paid job.

I understand that time change, and it's convenient to test new features as much as possible before release, but making people pay for that is a bit low, IMHO. More income is good, ok, but well... I'm on a fence with this. For what it's worth, I use the PB edition and never bother with the beta. Not criticising the heros who are willing to spend time on that, of course. In fact I think Frontier might just as well make beta access free to anyone willing to give some feedback. For free. Less income, but also more datas.

So you pay to work for FDev now, do you? Not only that, you're work is naff because everything that comes out of beta testing is bug ridden beyond belief or just broken.

Paying for Beta!

I've heard it all now!!

You haven't paid for it though. You've paid for a final product when 2.3 gets released.
If you find something from the company stating that your purchase contains beta access then fair enough, otherwise nope. Buying a final product doesn't entitle you to a development version.
You could argue Deluxe or lifetime pass should include all paintjobs and accessories but it doesn't say that anywhere so good luck arguing that. Again good luck in court, I'd chip in a fiver just to laugh when it's over within an hour.

I buy Fallout 4 but that doesn't give me the right to the developer build before it releases does it? So yes I have a hard time believing it.

Well done for exercising your right to not buy something.

Not now, it's been like this since pre-release in 2015....

And no, you have the option to join beta to help ensure a smoother less buggy release of a game you enjoy as well as being able to have an early access testing and provide feedback and suggestions that may change the game for the better.
Of course you can always provide feedback after changes have been put into the final release and you can always comment on things even if you don't have beta because we have a nice open forum... But it helps to be in it.

For me I'd say I can have 2 pints tonight (as it was at 2.0 purchase) or beta access for a season. I know which I'd pick even if I didn't use beta excessively.

Aaaaah. Back in the days, when betatesting was an actual paid job.

Here's a question.

What proportion of players in beta do you think actually beta test? I mean actually beta test like a job.

And what proportion of players just go on to muck around with the new shiny things? I dunno 1 in 10, 1 in 20, 1 in 50 even?

Do you think OP wants access so he can actually beta test things?

Why should a company spend a bunch of time and money scaling up and maintaining infrastructure so people who don't beta test things can pretend to beta test things?

It's a fiver fer God's sake, sure sure "but it's the principle"!!!! =p

LOL no dude, you're embarrassing yourself. Anyone paying for beta is basically bending over to corporate greed and happily paying to work for the company. It's ok though, those shareholders really benefit from people like you as it sure as hell isn't us - ED didn't get a price drop because you lot paid FD to beta test their game it got a price hike

£4.99 guys, we are talking about £4.99!

Buyit or don't buy it but don't cry salt about the cost of a Pint of beer or a bottle of cheap plonk?

I'm sorry. Beta Testing is WORK. When I work, I GET paid. I don't PAY OTHER PEOPLE for the privilege of working for them.

This is the second most absurd thing I have seen FDev do. Right after claiming the docking procedure is meaningful game play interaction. And it takes a lot to even get on the same list with a claim that mind numbingly stupid.

To answer the "but why should you have to pay for it?" question ... Well, if Frontier just opened it up to everyone, then everyone could access it. Yes I do understand that that is the point, but think about it from Frontier's side, if everyone can access the beta then amount of complaining is multiplied and the amount of actual beta testing is reduced. Yes there are those with beta access who don't beta test anyway, I am one of them if I am honest (and I am), but the idea of charging for it is to restrict the noise to signal ratio.

If you're looking for someone to blame, then blame crowdfunding. When game developers started crowd funding their games, they needed a pledge reward. One idea they came up with was offering beta and alpha access, something they had paid people to do before now. As a business it made complete sense to go from paying people to having people pay you. Once one game developer did it, they all did.

And we all lived happily ever after.
The end.

...Anyone paying for beta is basically bending over to corporate greed and happily paying to work for the company. ...

Do you remember the days companies used to pay people to beta test?
I almost applied for a job doing that once, local company did game testing until it went out of business.
It went out of business because gamers are putting people out of work by paying to do that job, just so they can see the new toys "first".

So weird. Wonder how many gamers are out of work and miss the irony of a job they could have been paid for, they now pay to do.

That is not everything, everything is included in Liftime Expansion Pack and then you have access to all Beta's :)

Yep. Which at £180 doesn't actually include everything as it doesn't include cosmetics but hey-ho that was always a given therefore I'm not salty because I researched what I was buying :)

Except, you bought the season pass, you get 2.3 when it drops as the main game. The beta versions are now and have always been a separate entity, they were also asked for by the gaming community as a whole (or did we forget that). Only lifers and premium beta backers are entitled to get the betas for "free" (they already paid their dues).

Pay for it, or don't and wait for the end product, no need to whine about it.
