Wait, wait, wait! So even when you`ve bought everything you still have to buy the Beta?

Overhead is a part of running a business. They're charging people to make sure something they already bought works.

More baseless assumption.

You assume they need us to make sure it works. There is nothing that supports that notion.

Maybe it's time to invest in some FD shares, they are good at making money it seems :D

No Starbucks wont do that, because someone can get burned and then they will get sued BECAUSE the coffee was HOT (never heard of hot coffee before) :D

I don't think that word means what you think it means...

Charging to fix things you haven't even covered yet is ethical. Got it.

Want to buy some beachfront property in Arizona?

Its doing their job and paying them to do it. It's ethnically bankrupt.

You've just paid a car dealer to get in the car you already bought and make sure the AC works.

It's not the same at all. I'm happy to pay for a chance to get early access to the new features and I enjoy being part of the development cycle.

If people are happy to pay - and it seems many are - then there is no problem. The alternative is to wait for release - many people do that too. Horses for courses!

Nope, because a) its completely optional and not necessary, b) i presume you meant ethically, c) the packages OP bought do not include beta nor state they include beta, d) not having access does not cost you anything and you don't lose anything by not having it, e) did i say its completely voluntary? and f) its completely voluntary.

It means they're naive. It isn't exact same thing. Denial is common when one is scammed.

The fact that testing had to be "bought" is the funny part. People buy snake oil voluntarily.

No one is compelled to do it to keep anything or to stay up to speed with anything.

Nickel and diming involves things you must pay for or are strongly compelled to do so else suffer loss of quality.

For example, old cars will nickel and dime you until you could have purchased a new car. You have to spend the money to maintain the car or else it degrades or breaks...you don't have much of a choice. That's nickel and diming. Or, selling ice cream but then charging extra for the spoon. See what I mean?

Sorry but...

nick·el-and-dime
ˌnikəl ən ˈdīm/
North Americaninformal
verb
past tense: nickel-and-dimed; past participle: nickel-and-dimed

put a financial strain on (someone) by charging small amounts for many minor services.
"we don't nickel-and-dime our customers like some vendors that charge extra for every little utility"

Origin (google search it)

But of course everyone is entitled to their opinion and I do not feel forced on doing anything I do not want to, I do not need to beta test anything specially this last release and when it comes time to purchase anything else from this company I might do it or might not just don't know

Yes. You'd be sold on oceanfront, though.

I'd never live in AZ...hate the heat

but, this doesn't look so bad

Google often misses out on colloquial uses...nickel and diming has always meant having to pay for things that aren't a luxury but are needed for getting the basic experience out of something. But, take it as you will.

LOL. You've bought a lot of snake oil in your time. I can tell.

Also, I hate the orange loudmouth.

Oh you can tell? Did you pull that out of your alternative facts bag?

I got beta access as a gift, own a few possessions most of which I built. You know nothing about me.

Why does this old and tired topic have to get trotted out every beta?
And this will be the first of six or seven of them as if people are still unaware and incredulous at how it is done.
Do people just like to post and see their name on here?

What alternative facts? That yo change to find problems with something you sold the customer is unethical?

Ok so I bought everything, the Horizons season Pass, the Commander Deluxe Edition... That includes everything.

But it don`t include the beta, that`s what I`m going to get anyway?

So I have to pay extra for a Beta of what i`m going to get anyway and already paid for?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA[haha]

Great joke. [up] Excellent humour.

So how do I get this Beta without having to pay extra for it? Seriously now.

Not to mention the beta is not a preview but it requires some kind of contribution. If you are not willing to invest 5 bucks, then you wont be willing provide the required feedback, bug reports, or suggestions that make the beta successful.

They do this generally because they dont want people who wont assist them to use assets just to jump into Beta and continue Player killing or providing spoilers with the intent of ruining it for everyone not in the beta.

If you are not willing to help test and invest time or money into make your game better, then dont bother with the beta. That 5 bucks gives you a voice in the changes that are being put forth. By the tone of your OP it clearly identifies you as someone who will not or cannot contribute anything of use during the beta process.

FDev has never contacted me to get my report on the problems in the beta.

They have never threatened to remove my access if I didn't report.

They charged me (tacked on to the LEP, actually) to give me the privilege of playing with new stuff before people who didn't pay.

Your alternative fact is in saying things about me that you can't know. AKA lies
