Because no one is getting hurt in a game. But when games begin to normalize terms like "vermin" to describe opponents, where does it end?
All excellent resonses. Who'll be first to use a sexual orientation term to refer to a pixilated opponent? Thought so... But demumanizing terms are OK. Ask yourself why.

There are far worse things to call somebody than vermin that are already normalised.

There's nothing wrong with fighting rebels (unless you lose). That's what England did in what became USA, right? But dehumanizing rebels, or anyone, leads straight to atrocities.
We just seem to have very incompatible value systems.but war itself isn't illegal.
I agree. In fact, they should remove all violence from the game. I mean come on, THINK OF THE CHILDREN! Replace all the lasers with water canons and make multicanons shoot flower peddals. Conflicts will be decided by hugging contests. Also, no more "conflict zones", the word "conflict" triggers some people. Rename these to "Party Zones" please and put party hats on all combat ships.

In game? Show me. And the point remains, normalizing "vermin" leads down some very dark paths.
Good point, but probably not the right forum."Thank you for clearing our system of these vermin!" is what the controlling faction representative said to me after I wiped out some rebels.
This is not OK. Yeah, "It's just a game" is what the response will be, but history says different. I have a personal connection to what happened in Rwanda, and here's a link to how the controlling faction there referred to its opponents: http://www.ppu.org.uk/genocide/g_rwanda4.html
Please just think about it.

For any FD staff reading, would you allow in-game dialog that refers to a pixilated opponet's sexual orientation, or race, or gender? "Thank you for wiping out those *******!"? Of course not. The use of "vermin" however has been used recently to justify actual atrocities, and it's allowed. I'm just curious why.

Aren't you the guy who proudly demonstrated how funny it is to ram other players to death?!
