All excellent responses. Who'll be first to use a sexual orientation term to refer to a pixilated opponent? Thought so... But demumanizing terms (vermin) to describe pixilated opponents are OK. Ask yourself why.

There's nothing wrong with fighting rebels (unless you lose). That's what England did in what became USA, right? But dehumanizing rebels, or anyone, leads straight to atrocities.

Wait what, killing is ok, but words really hurt?? I'd rather be called anything you like instead of getting killed, meh :|

but war itself isn't illegal.
We just seem to have very incompatible value systems.

I agree. In fact, they should remove all violence from the game. I mean come on, THINK OF THE CHILDREN! Replace all the lasers with water canons and make multicanons shoot flower peddals. Conflicts will be decided by hugging contests. Also, no more "conflict zones", the word "conflict" triggers some people. Rename these to "Party Zones" please and put party hats on all combat ships.

are you saying we should torture people with triggering their allergies by giving them flowers and go back to water baording?

I'm actually just confused now.

Apparently the confusion levels have exceeded my coffee intake.

I regularly call any NPC a B*****d, simply for inconveniencing me. I don't know they are. But thats what I call em.
I also call my cat, a rodent from time to time. Am i decattifying my cat? No, she doesn't give a crap and just wants dinner. I call my parents dogs fat. Are they offended by this? No. They don't understand, and they are in fact, fat. And again, just want dinner. Which is why they're fat.

My point is, stop being offended to things which are not you.
Or don't care.

I find hugging, parties and excessively happy people uncomfortable. So sorry, can't do that either.

In game? Show me. And the point remains, normalizing "vermin" leads down some very dark paths.

Vermin (colloquially varmint[1] or varmit) are pests or nuisance animals, that spread diseases or destroy crops or livestock. Use of the term implies the need for extermination programs.[citation needed] Since the term is defined in relation to human activities, which species are included vary from area to area and person to person.

Ok, lets check that,

humans do spread disease, and they actually when makign war destroy livestcok as well, (as basically much evertyhing else too)

So pests and nuisance animals? That terms fir as well because most of these depends ont he humans behavior.

So int he end, there are a lot humans who are vermin as they simply behave like vermin.

"Thank you for clearing our system of these vermin!" is what the controlling faction representative said to me after I wiped out some rebels.

This is not OK. Yeah, "It's just a game" is what the response will be, but history says different. I have a personal connection to what happened in Rwanda, and here's a link to how the controlling faction there referred to its opponents: http://www.ppu.org.uk/genocide/g_rwanda4.html

Please just think about it.
Good point, but probably not the right forum.

For any FD staff reading, would you allow in-game dialog that refers to a pixilated opponent's sexual orientation, or race, or gender? "Thank you for wiping out those *******!"? Of course not. The use of "vermin" however has been used recently to justify actual atrocities, and it's allowed. http://www.ppu.org.uk/genocide/g_rwanda4.html

I'm just curious why.

Because "vermin" sounds better than "rather nasty folk"...?
I dunno. Don't care either. Lol
