Patch Notes Update 2.3 Beta, Update 3

Fix some passengers refusing to leave their cabins

This raised a chuckle - stubborn old space tourists.

Great list of fixes - thanks for the hard work.

In other news, I'm sad to see VR users still don't get to use huge parts of the camera suite functionality - no zoom, focus, DOF.. weeps.

Wow that's a lot for a mid Beta update, thanks so much guys and girls.

Rebalanced ships: DBX now has an extra size 2 slot and is a bit lighter

To be honest this is the only thing I'm disappointed by. Another quick fix to appease the whiners rather than making the changes to the Surface Scanner that actually make sense. But hey ho.

So we can have our gunner kill other commanders without getting wanted? Sounds like a lot of fun...

A fix for the "helm becoming wanted because of gunner actions"-issue is badly needed, but that doesn't appear to be the right one to me.

I dont understand.... surely if a crime is committed all members of the crew take the hit. ..... as it is it already sucks that crimes can be wiped on disbanding the crew just by not taking the money.

imo how it works should be simple.

Crimes committed are added to the whole crew.
You are ALWAYS responsible for the crimes YOU commit, regardless of if you take the money or not on disbanding.
Any crimes committed by your TEAMMATES which are added to you when in the crew wing, you can choose to take with you, or you can choose to not take with you and give up your earnings.

The only time we should be able to commit a crime and it NOT be added to us, would be if ever FD add npc crew and instead of using telepresence we are using another cmdrs crew instead, so in effect our cmdr was never there

Thanks Frontier for all your hard work especially with the much wanted changes to the Diamondback Explorer. :)

Good morning, CMDRs. This morning we're applying an update to the beta which will cause them to be offline for a short time. The following changelog is the full list of changes being implemented to this new build.

[*]Rebalanced ships: DBX now has an extra size 2 slot and is a bit lighter, Asp Scout has a new size 2 slot and a size 5 slot replacing one of it's size 4 ones. Beluga mass brought more in line with other large ships to help FSD range

Would have rather seen two size one slots rather than a size two, so a DBX could fit a cargo rack, two discovery scanners, fuel scoop, AFMU, planetary lander and shield (the full explorer kit) without unbalancing combat, as two size 1s aren't much better than a size 2 anyway.

But all the changes are good, I'd just put two size ones on both the DBX and Asp Scout instead of one size 2, which fits in with their focus as scouting vessels with smaller compartments for scanning equipment, not military focused vessels with larger compartments.

What the huh? How are those two related? The DBX has been lampooned for day one for lacking slots a long-range explorer needs, that is fixed now. Yes, we all want other changes too, but balancing ships so we have better choices is a good thing, that can fall within the scope of a beta update.

Lot of good tweaks and fixes in there! [up]

Nice to see those balance changes to the DBX & Scout.

This little fix is very welcome too -

Fixed - some eyebrow textures were straying out the prescribed eyebrow area and then being stretched by the morphs influencing the eyelids

That one was disproportionately annoying, because it could completely alter how the feel of the eyes came across. Glad to see it sorted! :)

The multicrew crash fixes are good to see as well - Josh Hawkins, Shabooka & I had a few issues at PAX trying to get multicrew working in a stable way on our livestreams, but all those issues look to have been addressed in this update - awesome work guys!

I believe Osric is referring to the oft-requested feature of combining the ADS & DSS into one scan module that would occupy a size 2 slot rather than two size 1s. It would certainly make a lot more sense that way, but given that the devs have decided to add extra size 2 slots, I'm forced to conclude the combo-scanner concept isn't a viable implementation option from their side for whatever reason - at least for now. But increased specialisation of slots seems to be on the cards for the future (heralded by the Military slot we've already seen introduced) so who knows?

So, good news for some of the ships there!

- Orca gets lighter
- Beluga gets lighter
- DBX gets lighter and another slot
- Asp Scout gets one extra slot and one bigger slot
- FDL prepares to get a ship kit

Brilliant!

Turret crimes - doesn't this leave door open for (pretty minor but still potentially annoying) PvP exploit? I would agree that it is very highly unlikely for turret guy to take opponent - especially in PvP - with turret fire alone, still feels a bit...weird?

I hope this gets more careful reconsideration when full crime and punishment overhaul is coming (and Sandro, it IS coming, right? :)).

The helm doesn't have the luxury of chosing wether he wants to take the money or the wanted status. He can just kick or invite players. Only the crewmen can chose when they leave the ship.

It would also not solve the immediate issues... what if your gunner shoots the station while you are docking? The station will kill you, and reduced rebuy or not... YOU have to pay the bill, not the gunner.

FDEv's attempt will solve this, but opens a new can of worms. If the helm doesn't become wanted, authority vessels/stations can't react to the gunner blowing up clean ships, or how are they supposed to kill the gunner without harming the helm?

I totally agree with this, it makes no sense to me that a gunner in your crew can go on a rampage killing innocent people and you get away scott free. Though to be fair it's a griefer's paradise.

No it hasn't been lampooned from Day 1, people were happy before Horizons and then as soon as the Planetary Hangar was added to the game the cries of it needing and extra slot started. Isn't the point of smaller ships to be a compromise? Now you have a ship that is 1/6 the price of the Asp able to fit all the things people say you need to do exploration, plus it gets made lighter so it's already huge jump range gets even larger. It is, in my opinion, a very short sighted and bad decision. I would like someone from FD to explain why they think these changes are a good idea, but I won't hold my breath. Also this slot isn't restricted to a scanner.

I was actually referring to making the Surface Scanner fit in a utility mount, like all the other scanners.

See this is the problem:

A buff for the Beluga and Orca? Excellent!

We knew Orca diet was coming (ExplOrca now ?), but I'm hugely disappointed by the Beluga change. Only a weight decrease, really ? No class 4 slot buffed to class 5 so we can actually make use of the lower weight, installing a class 5 shield, having the class 6 free for a fighter bay instead ? No heat balance pass ?

Small ships being made redundant by endless module addition is not the same as progression. If you think that's a progression issue, boy are you barking up the wrong tree.

These changes are very welcome.
