People threatening to quit the game

Elite can be frustrating, if we don't keep our gamer's grinding reflex in check.

But OP's right, if someone leaves the game bored or dis-interested after 2000 hours played, it is more a sign of how GOOD the game is, not bad. :)
Personally. The longest time I managed to "be annoyed and done with Elite" was four days. :D

I'm afraid that if I ever decide to leave, I'm going to need a medical help.

edit:
But if you remove your head from various bits of your body... You would actually realise that FDev like criticism, they like to know why people are leaving the game, the only reason why people are so passionate is because they cared and invested so much of their time and money... And if all the forums are just full of praise well, how will FDev know they are about to jump off cliff and commit developer suicide, if no-one is able to give an honest opinion as to where they think FDev are getting it wrong.

Or is such a simple concept like that to hard handle for the happy clap special snowflakes?

Yes, Frontier, like any good developer, love criticism and new ideas. That's why Suggestions and Feedback subforum was made. There, everyone can come up with intelligible criticism and fresh ideas of how to make things better. And it works.
Goodbye posts, on the other hand, benefit no one.

To quote Broke Back Mountain

"I wish I could quit you"

OK jokes aside. Yeah people are frustrated with this game. And they have the right to be. Here we are 3 years later and you honestly cannot say we have come far enough to justify the sheer time taken.
When people say "I quit" it is often a sad moment for them. They put their faith in this game and it has gone unrewarded.

Instead of just falling back on "K bye" when a player feels the need to make a grand exit. How about we stop and think "hey geez maybe they might have some points". We don't need to entertain every 10 hour crybaby but we need to understand that deep down no one wants to quit. We want a reason to continue to play this game. But we aren't getting them. As much as I love this game I could write a book on why the Devs are mentally handicapped. And rattle off lists of stupid in game that breaks logic in all sorts of ways. There just comes a point where you need to cut your losses. And it is unfortunate that despite most wishes to the contrary that point comes along far too often.

No.
I do try to be helpful, when a person asks for help. No matter how small or big of a problem they have. It may be something that makes me quietly remark "Really? How can you have problem with that?" or it may be something that needs dedication and attention to solve and I'm happy to oblige.

But I am one of the people who care about how things are said more than the things themselves. If someone on a bridge told me "Help me or I'll jump", I would reply "Then jump".
You can't blackmail people into caring about you (or your opinions). That's not how things work.

Besides, this whole debate is academic. Goodbye posts are forbidden by forum rules and so is baiting and trolling. Therefore everyone who engages in such threads does that under the threat of possible infraction. Hardly an environment for a serious debate.
And after all, Sandro himself, in the only Goodbye thread he ever posted in said: Suggestions posted in a manner of goodbye threads will be ignored, regardless of their validity.

I agree with Punished Mobius but on the same hand, the times I have quit and left (this most recent case going by my Inara profile*) I stopped playing for 9 months (which should more or less align with the 2.2 beta/release?).

That time I left back in late June 2016 (and April 2016, and October 2015... and etc.) when I've left I just left. I never made this grandiose thread calling attention to the fact I was done playing with the game. I just left.
Sure partly because its against the rules.
Partly because who else will or should care that I'm leaving.
Partly because I don't seek attention.

But mostly because at that point I could care less about the game at that point.
"I'll see if the next bit of the season expansion gives me a reason to come back or not. "
It might bring me back for a couple of weeks (2.2 for example and I got a feeling 2.3 will be the same) but why am I going to go through the effort of making a show about it.

*Added a link to my 2nd page of my credits from my Inara profile since its what I keep most up to date as a showing of my comings and goings.

Most people have valid arguments to support their decision to leave. But you will most likely only read posts of dedicated players, probably the vast majority just leaves without posting.

This game is both the one which I have played most, by far, and which has the most obvious design flaws at the same time. It's most controversial. If it hadn't multiplayer, even though it's just a barebone one in terms of game design, and if none of my friends would play it, I would have dropped the game after a couple of hours.

The thing is, this game is being sold as 'complete' being extended by 'seasons' (as of now), but in reality this game is in a (pre) alpha state. David Braben just relabled 'early access' and makes people pay more or less regularly for new content. This statement might be rather harsh, but it shows the core of the problem most player have: This game has an immense base for an outstanding game, but (hopefully) it is still extremely unfinished, yet. I would like FDev to be more open about that, yet they choose to not respond too much to criticism regarding game design.

Save some popcorns!
I quit recently!
Game is not terrible but it is shallow and boring after 20h of gameplay, i have forced 300h to reach Sol and combat elite.
However game is still in development so that part is justified, except silence from the devs which i find rude cos after KS and tons of vids with cool promises they went silent not mentioning any of original plans while lot of us me included bought elite cos of that vids and invest money in it.
When they needed money they talked and promised a lot.
So when you look those vids back days and current game they have nothing in common.
I want to know in what i invested money (game+store).
FD should work on their communication cos they promised a lot and deliver (with delay) a glimpse of it.
I hope soon we'll hear news about 3.0 and beyond, good news! I believe it will be good news.

Clearly you haven't been here long ;)

If your thread is moved by a mod for what ever reason to the S&F subforum it's there to die a slow painful death. Whilst you might think that posts there are fresh ideas and make things better I am sorry to say you're deluding yourself. After 17 pages FD made 2 posts - 1 on page 5 to say "won't work" and another on page 17 to say "this is being changed in an upcoming patch"

Whilst I fully accept FD can't ready & comment on everything if you compare it to D.Discussion 5 threads on the 1st page have FD comments.
