What a bad night !

Hearing your story about losing everything to a griefer at a star port just makes all the crying I have read recently about how the regular beta when out will end all piracy and all the fun of PvP. Your story just proves again some don't want PvP, or piracy, they just want to destroy any and all ships for no real reason or gain, but to cause issues for others.

In anarchy space piracy will be rife and little to no police. There may be times if the space station loses to much commerce they may take action, but over all, go there you take the risk. In the area you were in, the police vipers would make short work of that griefer and I look forward to that. There will be plenty of PvP, but not as it is now. Hanging around a space port and shooting anything that moves will end with the vipers swarming out after them.

I personally have only run into the "Buy a ship and hang up, lose ship and money" bug. (It was a Cobra, 111k credits up in smoke) since then though I have had good luck, hell I even advertised my location to the Pirates trying to get jumped for testing purposes.

I now run a multi-system trade route in my Lakon, at each station I head towards I drop 2 sets of 4 canisters (8 canisters total) of what ever cargo happens to be selling best on that particular leg of the journey. (not necessarily the best selling, but the best between the two stations I was running). and I do it just so guys who have had a spot of bad luck have a chance to scoop them and sell right there. it may be P-cells, or it may be harvesters, maybe even fish or tea.

soon enough, we will have a wipe and we'll all start over anew. at that time is where your knowledge will come into play, knowing how trading works, how combat progresses, these skills will serve you well then allowing you to rapidly progress to a comfortable level.

so, keep the faith, learn your lessons and test, test, test. :)

Look on the bright side - at least you are getting the chance to practice flying, some of us have got to wait another 3 weeks or so of watching clips of others flying. Take a deep breath and relax, put your feet up and have fun tomorrow instead.

As above. It's a test mate. The fact that you are being shot down outside the station is also a part of the test. It is recognised and FD make a solution and factor it into the next beta iteration.

Here is a question though: If, in the released game, you decide to be a trader, would you be willing to pay other players to protect you in dangerous space?

I like the proposed system. It's like a more in depth version of the eve system. I am a massive carebear yet I don't want pvp to be eradicated. It adds a level of suspense and danger, and the need for wingmen etc... Just maybe not in the starting systems.

Pirates are just going to have to actually use their brains a bit when the policing system goes live, and in true space sim fashion, the more remote systems are going to be less policed I imagine, which is where the most pirates will hang out, which will Also be where the most profitable trade runs will be.

It's all risk vs reward, and the policing system is a much needed addition, I'm looking forward to it.

I can't wait to bang my fist down on the desk in anger at my first big loss. It's going to be an epic rage.

I tried helping my bro out with a few canisters of gold but he was unable to collect them, they would just be spat straight back out. When he did manage to collect one it never showed in his cargo bay. Strange :S

You know I must say I am pretty tired of all this griefer this griefer that. The guy didn't lose everything due to a griefer, he accidentally mis clicked when his ship was blown up by another ship. Truth is people need to not put all their eggs in one basket when making a trading run.

What I did try to demonstrate by helping out is that there are huge positives by playing online with others, along with dangers, and was happy to help one person get back on their feet.

Now whilst I will agree the police do need to be a bit more present; I have attacked players regularly around stations purely for their cargo. No one ever drops any, ever. And when I have attacked others and destroyed their ship its never been about griefing. And its funny how I've never been griefed, although I have been attacked many times - I see it as an enjoyable and interesting challenge of the game which adds some spice to what is a very predictable grind at present.

Rather than seeing the positives its always the same old tired narrative. Its getting seriously old, and despite anything anyone does, its always the same doom and gloom.

I agree Cosmos.

My post was not a complaint about someone killing me ... that's part of the game, I fully accept that, that's part of the risk / reward, you live and die by your decisions, I was more irked that I lost a lot of credits after a hard nights graft as soon as I left the station because there's no police in operation yet and then I compounded my misery by being a dork and pressing the wrong button

I took the risk by loading up my Hauler for one last super trade before upgrading ... risk and reward ... too much risk on my part ... lots of reward for someone else, that's life in the cold hard vacuum of space haha!

I learned a very valuable lesson that will help me when the game is fully released.

Loving every minute regardless ... awesome game and it's not even finished yet.

The truth is it is pointless being too firmly in one camp or the other at the moment. I have been attacked and I don't really care. Did I try dropping cargo? No. I'm not able to read the mind of the attacker. That isn't their fault. But some of the attacks have been volleys of missiles that kill me as soon as I get the warning. That isn't an attempt to persuade me to drop some cargo. So why would I think the next attack is? It sounds like you genuinely are trying to see if piracy could work without comms. Good for you. The clue should be that no-one has dropped anything ever. Your words. Now I'm not having a go at you or anyone else who tried the same thing. Like I say, I don't care and people should be trying different things. The main take away should be - exactly as you say - the eggs and basket thing. Also, to be fair, traders should really of spotted the lack of police by now. But maybe it is a little rich to expect the people who have been attacked and lost progress not to vent. What will be interesting will be how will things change in Standard Beta? Personally I expect there to be proportionality less odd attacks where you can't see the motivation. Some of the current odd attacks will be able to be done in a different way, like genuine piracy, so everyone is better off. But I still expect there to be some random, unprovoked, player on player attacks with no gain for the initiator where they have a upper hand through surprise and equipment. That is just human on-line nature. Hopefully we can then discuss those sensibly. But don't be surprised if someone on the receiving end vents. That is also human nature.

The launching of mass missiles at the moment is rather powerful (an I win button against smaller ships) especially when done at point blank range. I'm with you on that one and I have suggested HE missiles shouldn't be launch-able when so close to a target.

However, there is a counter to missiles I'd like to share if not launched at point blank range. As soon as you see people launching missiles (on mass or otherwise) release a heatsink (you'll need a launcher equipped for it) and there is a keybind for it too. Often I will heatsink and go silent running (SR) and all those missiles the guy launched go after the heatsink. And remember when you are in SR people can't get a target lock on you. You can therefore continue to use heatsinks to stay in SR to evade hostiles.;)

A guy was doing it last night when I was trying to meet up with the OP but I escaped every time - I did have a bit of a bounty on me though so can't complain. I would have ordinarily kicked his butt but I was busy helping out the OP. Now that reminds me.. I think I'll go seek him out :D
