You are not a hologram.

I repeat you are not a hologram. Ive seen tons of posts about this. Yes, you can control other peoples rather basic multi-crew roles from your ship. However as indicated by the life support system, emergency helmet, and oxygen counter a ship requires a live pilot. This will make even more sense when space legs come. Light cannot touch the ship to interact with it. This should be obvious, has you people never lost your canopy in game to see the oxygen count down? Never done outfitting to see the life support module?

i was in the beta, in VR using multicrew in someone elses ship, i looked at the person, he activated FSD when in hyperspace, the guy at helm ie ship owner vanished, and a stock model with helmet on replaced him, when we got to the new system, the guys holome appeared like a normal hologram, appearing from feet and moving up the body as it was made. WE are holograms, i saw it happen.

You are not a hologram. You are a flesh-and-blood being. You have a soul. Believe in yourself! Keep reaching for those stars.

One day, this will all be true...

Believe!

I can control multiple devices in my house a thousand miles away using an iPhone, so the hologram isn't necessarily pushing buttons on the space ship. Maybe the multicrew hologram is just window dressing because people like seeing other people when they talk to them. Like Skype or Facetime, for instance. It could be that commands are being issued remotely.

Isn't it fun debating fantasy ideas?

The explanation is incredibly stupid, why even have visual representation onboard? Why are there a person in the SLF? I'm sorry but FDEV didn't think this one through.

If we had a NPC crew it would make more sense. Like in the matrix where agent smith take over some people.

But this LMAO, easy solution no plausible explanation, and full of loop holes.

One word. TELEPRESENCE.

I don't understand why we cant telepresence to distant stations or different locations. We need to go the old fashioned way to a station to know their market. Ridiculous.

Why we can't telepresence a ship so when we explode we don't die. OH! we already are telepresencing our ships...

You already don't die when you explode. You eject in an escape pod and are retrieved by recovery limpets.

For the same reason you have an avatar in a video game. Also there are no people in SLFs.

The OP is somewhat right.

The actual commander of the main ship is physical, hence the life support and escape pods lore in Elite. Unfortunately as lame as it is the others in Multi-crew are holograms. As for one poster mentioning the generic picture pilot during hyperspace...that's this games version of an instance load, and Frontier can only do so much so it's gonna have little bugs and hiccups, that pilot there is still flesh and blood despite in-game issues with instance jumping.

EDIT: Unfortunately it feels like Frontier is retconning some of their lore possibly. What with Crew / Multicrew being holograms instead of physical entities along with hired pilots for SLFs. They are ALL supposed to be physical, Holo-me is a cheap cop-out and feels really forced instead of Frontier just waving a hand for crew dropping in and out going "magic", and instead trying to establish this Holo-Me as a reason for what we see in-game.

Hehe. This. Part of me wants them to run a social experiment to see what the reaction would be if they said "because it just works like that and it's how we wanted it for gameplay". Then step back to watch the mushroom clouds go off.

when i sit in my chair in front of my computer, i become my own virtual hologram, it works for Elite, but it works for any other game i play too !

Pretty sure therevare in beta?

Anyway: for fun make a note of all the 'fd should have done it differently' people. Then check who said they werent gonna use it anyway before they heared about holograms. Notice how in many cases people are upset because other people elsewhere are doing things that they will never notice yet 'breaks their immersion'. Yes, I am talking to all you 'I want npc multicrew cause I play solo' people. :)
