Release EDEngineer - an overlay to track your blueprint progress in realtime

the app should ignore log files which contains "beta" in the fileheader event; if it the "beta" keyword isn't in this event, then the app will read the file. if the keyword is present, then that's probably a bug! could you guys check and let me know? I'm not in the beta

Quick question. I have installed the program. It looks very promising. The data and material counts did not auto populate. Are they supposed to or am I supposed to do that manually? Isn't the app supposed to automatically track changes in data and materials?

Just ran a test in beta by discarding a few materials and different data types. No impact on the counts in EDE (which of course didn't match because of when the snapshot was taken).

Header from the journal just in case.
{ "timestamp":"2017-03-09T18:13:13Z", "event":"Fileheader", "part":1, "language":"English\\UK", "gameversion":"2.3 (Beta 2.01)", "build":"r139512/r0 " }

All looks good to me.

Anyone having a problem where once opened, the screen just wont appear yet remains in taskbar (alt+tab doesnt work either). It's really strange. It worked wonderfully and now I cant see it (I use two screens, tried changing to one but with no success. Also tried reinstalling)

Yes, getting same issue. Did reinstall, worked then stopped again after a week or so.

Right Click on the taskbar icon for EDE and click Reset Window Position and see if that helps.

Regarding the (bit obnoxious) commanders list on the top of the window, the only way to remove a commander currently is to remove their related logs (both from the game and the manual changes ; in the "Saved Game" folder and "AppData" folder respectively). An easy thing I could do would be to persist the selected commander such that it would stay selected between restarts.

I have not been able to find the logs relating to their commanders, is there any chance you could walk me through the locations of the files? I don't want to remove something essential.

the game's logs are in your "Saved Games\Elite Dangerous" folder (in your user folder) and the manual changes done in EDEngineer are stored in AppData\Local~Roaming\EDEngineer (Local if you installed before January approximately, Roaming if you have a more recent install)

each game log has a header that contains the commander name (well, some logs might not have that header but I think they're just bugs from the game itself that you can safely ignore/delete)
regarding manual changes, the commander name is in the file name itself (manualChanges.%NAME%.json) ; if the commander name contains characters that aren't valid for NTFS files, I use html encoding for them (obviously if your real commander name contains a code that corresponds to an HTML encoding, then the app won't work correctly but I assumed nobody did this)

With the update delays at Inara.cz, I've been relying more heavily on your amazing program.

When I highlight a material/data on the left panel, is there a way to highlight blueprints that use that item on the right side? This would help prioritize storage options.

thanks,

First of all, thanks for creating the great tool. I am recommending it to others whenever this is required.

One question/suggestion: Is there an option to export the EDEngineer configuration from one installation and import it into another one? I run E:D in multiple computers, and having to memorize and set the same favourites in EDEngineer across multiple computer is not easy.

no it doesn't exist ; but shouldn't be that hard to dump the current settings and import them elsewhere. you could use the current xml file where settings are stored but that would be annoying; a built-in feature would be more acceptable. FYI these are the current settings EDEngineer uses http://i.imgur.com/P5l0EAx.png

thanks,

that's a feature often asked and not very hard to implement I believe, but it almost feel like feature creep to me. that would complicate the application quite a bit and could be a bit disorienting especially given how much the app offers right now (I think the large majority of EDEngineer users aren't even aware of the threshold feature for instance).

however, it's definitely possible to use EDEngineer API (local server, check the wiki on github) to extract any data you want and work on that on your side (with script if you know a bit of programming, or Excel for example)

Yep, I was thinking about doing the scripting on my side; just wondered if it was on the "to do" list before I dive in.

Thanks.

For what it's worth, I came to ask for the same feature. The "Ingredient Filter" is extremely useful when I'm deciding what to keep and what to throw away when my mats and data fill up, but it's also cumbersome to dig into the dropdowns like that. I'd ask that the highlighted selections map to those checked in the Ingredient Filter (and vice versa), which would give a quick and intuitive way to see what blueprints are related to selected data/mats.

It seemed so intuitive to me that I was shocked it doesn't behave that way. Is there some other functionality tied to the highlighting of data/mats or is it purely cosmetic?

Thanks for making this -- Ive needed it for so long

Hi

I have just discovered ED Engineer and it's exactly what I have been wanting for a long time.

Many thanks to whoever put it together.

I will be spreading the word :)

First of all.....AWESOME APP! I have it installed and working somewhat :) My only issue is that it will not overlay my elite screen. When I CNTRL-F12 to it it exits elite like I CNTRL/Escaped out of it back to windows.
