I don't have a right corner wheel. I have a big black rectangle with EGENGINEER written in the middle and spinning circle below that, that's it. Nothing to click on.

Tried, several times, normal and with admin rights.

Nothing except the built in Windows Firewall.
But have you entered the program for access into the firewall rules?
It hasn't asked for access, it's not listed in the firewall application list, and I can't access the path to add it manually.
I get the black background with the spinning dots as you describe and then it loads the data.
Apparently, something is blocking EDE from loading the data. I suspect it only needs to read the log data, but I'm not certain of that.
If it's not being blocked by internet access, then it has to be blocked internally from reading the log data.
So, if it's not Firewall or Defender, then it's likely directory permission settings that's preventing EDE from loading the data.

That's probably it somewhere, as it throws errors reading the logs before exiting with fatal error. I don't get it though, there's no security block on the log folder whatsoever. Furthermore EDDiscovery can read them no problem.
have you been through the 'clean' removal procedure? I have had issues in the past where it would lock up and uninstalling wasn't working. you needed to clean the installation manually. I'd then reboot and then re-install.

Hi i just downloaded this... however it appears to be using my commander from a looooong long time ago. i am wondering if maybe it is looking at my legacy save.
is there any way i can force it to update to my current inventory etc?

thanks... i looked there but there is just 1 name (CMDR mad mike ) - though the name is the same in both current and deprecated game saves.
This is a little older thread, but coming into a similar situation and created a newer post on it in case there is some resolution. I tried the suggestions here and no luck...
