Mobius population

I've seen it mentioned that Mobius is for X geoloc, and Mobius PVE is for Y geoloc... Which is great in theory, but you join Mobius PVE because Mobius is full, and that's all.

Is there something in this that I don't see? Because, being in AU, I'd rather be in the EU (Mobius) group simply because it's difficult to instance with USA. Can I change groups? Does Mobius cull inactive CMDRs?

I'm just a player, nowhere near official, but I do pay attention to the FB group and tend to retain what I read.

Used to be just Mobius. When that group reached 20,000 members they created Mobius PvE and the idea was that Mobius would be for the UK/Asia and Mobius PvE would be for North America. People were asked to leave Mobius and join PvE.

Now we're reaching a point where Mobius is full again, and PvE is around 17,000 members. So everyone has to join PvE. They have created an Asian/Australian group and apparently there is a fourth group too, but no one is using it yet.

FD has been somewhat helpful but at the same time somewhat not helpful in managing groups this large. Again, I have no "behind the curtain" knowledge, but apparently it has been difficult to remove inactive CMDRs.

Personally, I feel like we're at a fork in the road. Either FD needs to remove the cap and allow the Mobius groups to be one large group, OR FD needs to lower the cap down to small groups and create an Open PvE mode.

Mobius as a community is going to become weaker and weaker as we are forced to spread ourselves between many different private groups.

I'm honestly curious, what do you guys play the game for? Once you're sitting on billions of credits, amassed after hours and hours of mindlessly driving from system to system in complete safety, after you've bought and modded the ship(s) of your dreams, after you've completely crushed countless fleets of NPC ships, do you just quit the game at that point?

Theres a lotta assumptions in there. Fer one thing, I never grind credits or rngeers which means Im poor with less than 10m in the wallet, a d rated asp ex and a d rated keelback and thats all I have after almost 1600 hours time spent.

No rngeer modules mean Im target practice in open anyway and I cant be bothered grinding thyem...means staying in the bubble and I despise the bubble. My adopted home is colonia where I play in open and I socialize with others who also want something different than exists in ganktown. I went there recently to build an exploration keelback because its the only way Ill ever afford to fly an SLF...and ye wanna see the canyons and the SLF racing...loadsa fun. Enough to make me wanna go back to that place and get me own...had to farm the neutrons to raise the funds but all sorted now.

So...I dont fall into any of yer stereotypes. Im even harmless in that Ive never shot at a single npc...I dont have any weapons on my ship so its physically not possible. Ive also never owned anything bigger than an asp...because I dont farm credits and nor do I grind up ranks...pointless and boring gameplay imo ^

Yes.

As I said, it's full and that's why you join PVE, not because you're in X country... I've been in PVE since December and since then Mobius has been constantly full. Nobody I know in .au has bothered with the AU group because players want to actually have the chance to see someone. I do follow the facebook group and understand/know everything you just said, hence my question as to if there is something I don't understand about moving between groups, because you don't get to 'choose' between Mobius and M.PVE, you just join the one that isn't full...

Which is why I got to my final statement. The multiple groups just doesn't work. Two groups with eastern and western hemispheres wasn't horrible, but now that we're going to 3 or 4 groups it's going to get worse. FD either needs to open up the caps or create an Open PvE for everyone.

I can only speak for myself, but I have fun interacting with other commanders in a stress free environment.

I like to play the meta game. UA's UP's barnicals ...ruins....exploration and such. To go to these places and talk to other players that are there about it I find fun. Go there in open...shoot fest hehe. I feel for the players who want to do the meta game and don't know about private groups like mobius. It must be lonely in solo...I'd put money on some people have quite the game as thay have nobody to talk to...don't use the foroms...get killed in open...and can't progress there game. As we all know...elite gives no hints about what to do.

Sorry. Wrong quote. I mentioned to reply to the cmdr who wanted to know what some of us do in mobius after we might make billions of credits all safe lol.....wish I hade the time to make billions. :D

To play the meta game they would have to be coming to the forums/watching youtube vids as it's hardly advertised in game massively.

I agree to an extent....well...no....I totaly agree...there has been galnets about it but I dunno if it gives locations. So...yeah very true. If you don't go out of the game ...I suppose it doesn't matter what mode your in....u don't know about the meta game. I stand corrected. :D

Anyone remotely familiar with social contract theory would understand exactly why mobius exists. Social contract theory is basically a set of rational rules that rational people agree to abide by. Among those rules would be something against random murder. Every single successful society has some sort of rule saying that you can't kill someone just because. Simply put, ED has nothing in place to discourage random murder. So, ED has no rule against it. In such a situation, there is no functioning society because everyone is looking out for themselves. However, at some point, groups of like minded people will band together and set rules in place that they all agree upon. And that is a society. Mobius is simply a group where all the members have decided to abide by a certain set of rules. Out of a lack of society, a society gets created. A social contract was made.

Dear Mobius,

I'm not a member of your private group, but your time and effort have provided many with an environment they enjoy playing this game. And when I say many, I mean tens of thousands. You have meant more to this game than all of the vinegar urinaters in this thread combined. But ...

The way you make those urinaters lose it makes your existence in this game priceless. Best part of it is, you don't have to lift a finger. These monkeys are eager to dance for our entertainment. High fiving each other all throughout the show.

For this you get many of my gratitudes. I'm enjoying. Yes I am :)

I enjoy Elite as a secondary digital life, in a way. It is the experience to be a pilot in the future, doing whatever I feel like doing. The simulation aspect of Elite and the way I try not to rush things makes it a fun alternative reality to escape into. I love doing all the things in the game, except fighting other CMDRs. That might go hand in hand with that I feel Bounty Hunting is the least favourite activity in the game. I really love Mining and Rare trading, and I usually show up at the Cargo CGs.... and speaking about that... would love to see a new mining CG at some point.

Also, being part of a player faction in the game, I help out with the BGS. And, having VR certanly helps a lot with the immersion and the feeling of being in the game, rather than playing the game.

So you don't count the Roman Empire as successful?

Rome had laws regarding murder. Though, there were many justified reasons for homicide, as well.

If anyone knowingly and maliciously kills a freeman, he shall be guilty of a capital crime. If he kills him by accident, without malice and unintentionally, let him substitute a ram to be sacrificed publicly by way of expiation for the homicide of the deceased, and for the purpose of appeasing the children of the latter.

Roman law is actually where we get the distinction between manslaughter and murder. Though, Rome didn't have varying degrees of murder as we have today in the US. Our law takes a lot from Roman law.
