Sport is not "just because". They were fought for either honour, money (reward) or punishment.

The public lion feeds less so. Rome was a dangerous society to live in much how open is. Yes they did have a brutal punishment system but it was also very easy to get away with murder in the society and ganking happened alot.

So you don't count the Roman Empire as successful?

I think other people have answered that for me. And ED does not have any real prohibition against random murder. As such, Open mode in ED can be considered to be a failed society.

It was easy to get away with murder because of the technology available at the time. That has to be ignored. They still had an actual prohibition against random killing. ED pretty much does not.

"or punishment".

Even if Christians to the Lions is mostly a myth.

So, seeing how Open is void of any brutal punishment system, it's not like Open at all?

In other words, keep hiding in your very own safe bubble :D - all PvP players already won, so we are happy and laugh about the win, those at the loser sider are all in Solo/Private lobbies, no? :)

Told you in another thread, and it applies to the the majority who post on this forum, observe Wheatons Law.

Enjoy the fact that those who don't wish to be around you can remove you from their universe such that those who are left do want to be with you .. that's great - a win / win for everyone .. no need to gloat or be a [expletive]

Based on my limited time in open, I do think there are more people in open.

I think that's kind of a given being as Mobius is a private group and you only learn of it by coming to the forums (which most pilots don't)

However, joining Mobius you can be fairly sure of the kind of experience you will have by joining it ..

I've seen it mentioned that Mobius is for X geoloc, and Mobius PVE is for Y geoloc... Which is great in theory, but you join Mobius PVE because Mobius is full, and that's all.

Is there something in this that I don't see? Because, being in AU, I'd rather be in the EU (Mobius) group simply because it's difficult to instance with USA. Can I change groups? Does Mobius cull inactive CMDRs?

I believe they are having a cull at the moment if you head over to https://elitepve.com/index.php there is a post on the issue

Wow. This thread. People who play Mobius, good on you, people who play Open, good on you.

It's weird up in this thread. I don't understand it, either

Dear Mobius,

I'm not a member of your private group, but your time and effort have provided many with an environment they enjoy playing this game. And when I say many, I mean tens of thousands. You have meant more to this game than all of the vinegar urinaters in this thread combined. But ...

The way you make those urinaters lose it makes your existence in this game priceless. Best part of it is, you don't have to lift a finger. These monkeys are eager to dance for our entertainment. High fiving each other all throughout the show.

For this you get many of my gratitudes. I'm enjoying. Yes I am :)

Oh you salty old dog you...ye make the grade of the wax lyrical guru and I love you too...vinegar urinator...I like it ^

If ye fancy an even better laugh, ye should check out the hotel california thread...some the stories told in that will leave yer sides splitting and tears of laughter...although a lotta the best ones were deleted I think...

Best about it is, I dont pay in mobius but have a few m8s who do...I avoid most groups and stay a total freelancer, but never say never ^

Uhm... not sure if you knew this but... Mobius is a private group and has nothing to do with the BGS or factions or anything. It is just a PvE environment with likeminded. Your comment about staying a total freelancer made me think you didn't know that. I might reading your text wrong though. :)

This is an open question to everyone...

I noticed the use of the word Necro in some comments. Never seen it before, but, essentially, from what I can gather, is that it is not a good thing to post relevant info into the same thread, if it has been "dead" for some time.

So, for those of you who feel that this thread should've been locked etc... should the search function for topics be removed... I mean... lets say that I search for something, I find a thread related to what I searched for... should I not ask the relevant question in that thread (yes, it is revived), or, add information, into said thread? Is it better to start a new thread on the subject?

I am a bit confused about this, because, as a professional 3D artist (nowdays a supervisor), I am used to ask questions in threads related to what I need to ask about software x, y or z, no matter how old the threads are.

The reason for that is quite simple; use the search function and don't start new threads unless your topic is unique.

I'm still trying to figure this forum out... this is the first games forum I have engaged in; usually I stick to professional forums related to my craft. Hence I am a bit confused. :)

Depends on the context, you tend to find that most threads necro'ed and responded to are by people giving replies to questions long since dead and as such irrelevant.
This thread is not as old as some but it happens to be the owner of the subject group responding to a long dead question giving rise to suspicion that he is just trying to promote his group

Yeah I know what they are...like I said I just stay freelance and dont burden them with my warped sense of humour. I really am a lone wolf type player by choice...not anti social, I just dont do clubs and groups and just do me own thing ^

Ok... but what is wrong with that? Is it breaking any rules? And if so, what rules?

A necro is like net slang fer threads which have died, then brought back to life. Imo, its not a necro until its been dead fer at least a month, but others will say a couple days...especially if its salty.

Games forums are like troll breeding grounds...they can bring out the worst and best and funniest people and throw them all into one big pot. If ye have what you think is a valid reason to ask a question, then ask away. Accusations of whether its a genuine necro or not will be answered by a mod who are like agents in the matrix...they guard all the doors and hold all the keys. The rest is just noise from the regular forumites...popcorn and salt...games within games.

Text based pvp and stinging sarcasm can be more fun that the game sometimes, especially when someone gets triggered and blows up. The rage quit threads are some the best fer these but they get locked too fast because they go pete tong faster than most ^

Game forums typically have a less positive view towards reviving old threads than most forums because updates are likely to have rendered all the information in older threads incorrect or misleading. If you just want to ask a question it's usually best to start a new thread unless there's a relevant thread currently active.

This particular thread is an exception* because the OP's question and subsequent discussion remains relevant, and it was bumped with useful information. It's just attracting accusations of being a necro because some players will say anything to try to silence discussion of PvE modes in Elite.

*Obviously this is up to the mods, but genuine necros get locked very quickly and this is still open.

The internet is full of disingenuous people; you are not one of them :D

Thanks for the information to all of you who have answered. :)

From my experience with forums related to 3D proffesional use, there is a big one called CGTalk, which is an independent forum that has sub-forums for, pretty much, all 3DCC tools out there. They have a built in timer that locks threads after a certain time automaticly, because of inactivity.

To me it sounds like something that might, or should be, implemented here so that people don't get too upset?

Forums that are related to the specific product and are driven by the developers of said product, seldom have an automated timer to lock threads because of inactivity.

Anyways... again, thanks for chiming in and help me understand this forum a bit better.

o7 to ya all!
