I kinda agree with the whiny OP. I dont mind the store having cosmetics, I do mind having all cosmetics in the store. Its usually based on some ancient poll, but it was never suggested everything would be paywalled.

No they aren't I have had some free cobra poaint jobs, wasn't there a CG that got you an eagle skin as wll. Black friday paint job was given to everybody that got horizons pre release. They have also just given out powerplay decals and they have been livestreams where they have given away codes for decals as well. So not all have been chargable.

I wouldn't call the black friday skins free, they were a preorder bonus. As for the CGs that reward with skins, they're very welcome and they should do more of that, but right now it has happened... Twice? For 2 ships in total. The game has... 30 now? Or 31? idk, but it's still a minuscule ammount.

As for the stream giveaways... Come one, that reaches what? 2 cmdrs per stream?

I really don't understand all this outrage over supporting the development of this game through the purchase of vanity items. If you can't afford the couple of bucks these usually cost, then simply don't buy them!

But the thing that amazes me are the number of clueless comments and opinions I read on here every single time this topic is raised. As if contributing a few bucks for this or that while helping to fund the future development of ED is some outrageous breach of trust between Frontier and the ED community.

Makes me wonder how some of these people manage to get dressed in the morning without assistance.

Sorry OP but on offer means as it says - it's on offer, they will offer you a paint job or ship kit & you in return offer to pay them cash.

Now if FD said as a lifetime backer you will be entitled to FREE ship kits or paint jobs or other FREE stuff in the future, then you would be right to gripe on about it.....but they didn't, so you don't.

You got your Black Friday paint job and if you pre-ordered or had alpha/beta/gamma then you got that mercenary paintjob.

Not much, but it was something. Of course, new players get nothing.

I don't agree with the "It's better than a subscription".
Being poked in the eye is better than having your arm chopped off but not chopping my arm off doesn't justify being poked in the eye.
FD can fund development and running the servers from sales of the game and expansions.
Just like other companies do.
They don't HAVE to charge for cosmetics or you've GOT to pay a subscription.
They could instead charge for some cosmetics to supplement their profits on the game and still do just fine.
It's not like ED has the server costs that games that do require a subscription do, we all know it's mainly P2P with a few gateway servers that cost pittance in the grand scheme of things.
