Question for kickstarter backers

I just backed to make it happen, definitely nothing owed to me (so I have been buying vanity items since then to keep the investment going)

The way I see it...
I've played elite from the commador 64 when I was very young....I got an amiga and I remember my dad taking me to a shop to get the upgrade to 1 Meg so I could play frontier.......I never played first encounters as my "teens" hit then and there was ..ahem...other things on my mind. :p

Then...years later (I'm 40 now) I heard elite dangerous was launching. So..I got a computer....coz..well...it's elite!....without the backers...i wouldn't be playing. Let them get it all for free...i don't mind. Thay did ME a favor. I'll buy it...and the expansions if I feel I want to. Thay won't have to...coz thay helped the game be made. There's nothing else realy to say apart from thank you to all the backers. I would have backed to but I just didn't know. Lol

I'm dyslexic....back then all the teachers just thought I was lazy....my mum used the text in frontier (and eye of the beholder) to teach me to read. :)

Yeah man. U know what I mean. Eye of the beholder was one of those games...like elite...that just got my imagination going. I remember mapping out the levels ...hours spent solving the puzzles with my mum. And writing down the commodity prices for elite. Systems we had been to and should head back to...:) ahhh nostalgia :D

I dont think all kickstarter backers are entitled, but I know the specific vocal type the OP is talking about, usually found either here or on the facebook page in any discussion:

"I'm a member of the '84 club and super top level backer who went to the launch party. Your opinion is wrong because you play a sandbox game in a way that differs to my own preferences."

I missed out on the kickstarter, I had no idea this project was even in the offing till a friend told me about it coming to the Xbox platform so I immediately went and bought an Xbox (a gaming pc was not an option then). I bought the life time access pass without the knowledge it wasn't viable for the Xbox but it never bothered me I was just happy to be contributing to the expansion of my greatest game from childhood.
A year ago a small windfall allowed me to purchase a gaming laptop and suddenly that little slip of a purchase blossomed into well over a thousand hours of fun. The games not perfect, but I've never heard anyone from FD claiming it to be such, it's a work in progress and how it will end no one knows, but I do know il be right here till the at end.

Yeah. I have seen this aswell. I don't do Facebook. Twitter reddit or anything else but I've seen it on the foroms and I realy do know what you mean.

I.E. I'm a backer so what I say is more important.

What you need to understand is that, well..the game has been made. We are playing it. Saying one thing or another actualy means nothing. Why get worked up about it?. If someone backed the game before it was made then...thay just did. It makes no differance. I know it...you know it...thay know it. Thay just want to point out that thay have been here from the very start....That's all. I've noticed a pattern that screems adolescent...........

Maby instead of getting so mad about things that just don't matter.....well...I dunno....go do something that takes all that anger away. But not drugs.....never that....try girls :) \o/......always ask them first!!!!

I saw some of them. But to be fair, there are also others ... like "I am a backer, paid lotsa Dollarz, and the game is developed in a total different direction than advertised"...

Ahhh. I've never encountered one. But my statement stands. It makes no differance. There word is no better than mine or yours. What thay get is all the expansions for free and whatever else. I'm eternally grateful to them for backing the game and getting it made. But take a step back....Lots of people have lots of idias about this game.....some groups like the exploration community (I'm one of them) think the game should go in that direction. That's just what I think. That's all. I'm allowed to think that because there's only 4 types of people in this life that can TELL you what to do or how to think.

1. Your mom and dad
2. A policeman
3. A judge
4. Any one of a higher rank than you in the armed forces.
After that..well...what I think...why do u care? You might think this game needs to be like eve...(not saying you do just as an example) but I done care. I welcome it. So if you started every sentence off as "I'm a backer and....... it means nothing. Hope this makes sense. I mean no disrespect at all...I'm just can't fathom where the anger comes from :)

I backed at KS and upped my pledge to DDF towards the end when things looked a bit hairy. Have a 2nd accoutn with lifetime pass, and a 3rd Horizon account. All do different things.

In tersm of entitlement - well only thing I would really like to see in terms of core mechanics that was talked about and has not seen to make it in so far is the skills based mining.

One of the problems, and I expect somethin that grates other members of the community, many of the LS backers still around saw concepts that have developed differently, I suspect we would all disagree which ones were important though (not sure everyone would agree with my skills based mining as important). I refer back to concepts discussed in KS, when I do not like the direction of the game (holopresence I am lokking at you as an example).

At the end of the day how and why we bought the game, we are all the same and entitled to views, at the end of the game you can play the game or go and do something else - that is true for all of us.

Pretty sure not many people backed at that level JUST to get the game in it's entirety when none of us knew if it was going to be any good. Most backers will have seen the promises and decided they wanted to put money in to get a game out and after that decided which level was best for what they could afford.

Not all of us had money to burn either, i chose to walk to work for a month and use my travelling money on top of my monthly disposable income to back at the £200 level (I'm a lot better off now as it happens so as a percentage of my earnings it would be MUCH cheaper to just buy the expansions as they came out).

As to if I feel i deserve more? No, i don't, but I do think we deserve some loyalty and for FD to stick to the vision of the game we backed and not subtly change it as they go along which seems to be what's happening and it's put me off backing anything else.

This brings up a good point. What we have isn't what thay said we would have. Now. There's arguments that it's a 10 year thing. Also...there's arguments about what should be done first. I suppose being vocal about such things can maby get things done. But I'm Shur you will agree...putting "I'm a backer and..." before you comment on where the game go's actualy means nothing. But it DOES show your commitment the the game and how far you will go to get it started/keep it going. Which I respect.
If I was a backer/founder or whatever I too would put that before some of my posted...not because I think I'm entitled to more or my voice means more...but just to show how long I've invested into it.

I truly hope this come across as intended. No malice or sarcasm. I'm not to good with words and I'm 6 Stella's into a crate. Lol :)

I'm going to leave this thread now as I hope I've make MY thoughts clear. Thay are just mine. That's all. As a non backer haha :) disregard them as you see fit.

Might try and get eye of the beholder tho....I'm just frightened it will ruin my pleasant memory's :D

I only bought the game on it's release, and was happy enough with it then. It's since expanded considerably in terms of content and visuals, and as such, I purchased the LEP when it was offered. I also bought the game and LEP for a close friend who has helped me over the years, and he is also now enjoying it (with his Oculus Rift..).

The only reason I didn't plunge into backing the game was that I was stung with Silent Hunter 4, and bought the most expensive version, which turned out to be a pile of poo.. Having said that, I haven't gone a day I haven't played the game (ED, not SH4!) since, and am not far from double Elite, with a third one close behind those two.

It's the most I've played any game I've purchased, and don't feel I'll be getting tired of it anytime soon.

As for entitlement, I don't really care for that concept. "You pays your money, you takes your chances"...

Yup, I totally get that Mr Ant but on the flip side, without everyone else paying for the expansions the game won't develop very far

And I don't have a problem with kickstarters getting them for free, it's just the regular posts about I paid a nominal amount and now I'm entitled

They aren't getting them for free, they paid extra at the start. Game was £39.99 when it was launched, i paid £100 .

So yeah, i paid for all the expansion's in one go, at a lower overall cost than buying the expansion's separate, but more expensive up front.

Nothing wrong with that.

I backed at premium beta level so if I get the base game and 2 expansions I pretty much break even. It was a gamble but one I was prepared to risk because I wanted the game made.

However, I'll still be paying for development of the game because I bought a second account and have bought Horizons for it. I may not buy every expansion, that just depends on what they contain but I'd imaging plenty of people who didn't back the kickstarter will do the same.

I've been trying to find that video of the youngish kid (with the spaceman helmet) who's about 10 years old, finding the sidewinder difficult to fly but 'amazing'. He did a couple of videos I think, maybe someone can help me find the youtube. Anyway, worth every penny.

I saw that...(I didn't go) it was realy funny. Sorry I can't link it. I also liked the one with the little boy doing the paperwork for his dad that was flying the ship. :)

I like to think of elite as a small city. We have people who want to be left alone..(solo)....people who like pubs and clubs...(mobius) people who like to fight and scrap (manchester) and then sociopath's (with blue hair...u know who I mean :)) that want to kill everyone for no reson.
We all do these things in a game world we love. The fact that we dont like how the other groups do things only makes it better. Our voices are one. The are elite voices.....let that never change \o/

OK...drunk..logging lol

It's Average Row. I subscribed to his channel, his amazement with this game is... well, amazing. He's even got Beta access now :D I really like his enthusiasm about the game!
