Think it might be time to take a break until new content that isn't pew pew comes in!

I don't mean this as a criticism, or a suggestion. I'm just thinking out loud...

If you consider games like Fallout 4 or Skyrim they are, fundamentally, just pew-pew (or hack-hack) but they present themselves in such a way as to seem like so much more.

Might not be a bad idea for some of the people at FDev to take a couple of weeks playing games like that and then have a bit of a brainstorming session to see if there's anything about those games which might be implemented in ED to provide a "fuller" experience.

Skyrim and Fallout 4, flawed as they are, don't have a tackled on P2P multiplayer mandatory mode which allow no persistence, no reactivity and no life to the game world.

I am near that place as well.
However when I look my 2600 hours played in a 2 year span, I am not sad at all, it was well spent money that gave me more than any other game I have own.

Now I am playing other stuff and focusing on drawing heavily. I will never be able to fully leave Elite because it grants me something very basic that I like.

I don't think that necessarily means there's NOTHING which might be learned from such games and implemented within ED.

Not expecting anything in 2.4 either, so hoping 3.0 has been having a bucket of work done on it behind the scenes...

Huh, I assume that means you know at least something about either 2.4 or 3.0, right?

Last I checked I couldnt start a civil war wherever I was, or create a famine and profit by delivering food. I dont think I could personally replace the jarl of a remote hold and chose which group would replace him.

I really dig Skyrim, but dont make up such nonsense as if Skyrim had more reactivity than ED. Skyrim was 100% scripted as heck, with whatever choice you had being binary.

To be fair we don´t know what´s behind the currently locked permit-bar in 2.3 - I think we will see something we didn´t expect (but it could be buggy until 2.3.02 :))

So let´s see. Pew-Pew looks like it has premium priority at the moment, for whatever reason. Maybe they are preparing something. Who knows.

Personally I think there should be more stuff like the ruins - I have never seen so many people playing coop in Elite and that´s my preferred way to play this game (Did I mention OpenPVE yet?)

Took a break of a few months, it's OK you are allowed to walk away if you want to. For me I was burnt out on doing just too many back to back CG's and pushing for the top 10 too often, that and real life played a big part as well.

Came back to it a few weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it and there have been changes and improvements. I think sometimes it's easy to get bogged down in individual issues like the repetitive NPC chat, and the fact that Naval ranking missions are really nothing more than normal missions with a Naval icon attached to them rather than some special mission that you only see for that rank but, really, if you're not enjoying it walk away for a while. I'm impressed (amazed is probably a better word) by the people that have been playing since the very start and still play actively years later but I'm not one of those players, I realised I was getting burnt out and stepped away for a while before I started getting bitter - came back fresh(ish - it's a warm day and work haven't turned the winter heating down!).

Oh and walk away from the forum during that time as well, I think the forum doesn't really help you appreciate the game if you're in the "fed up of Elite" frame of mind already. Doing this means I'll not begrudge FD if it takes them a while to fully realise a 1:1 scale galaxy with landable planets of all kinds. I'll get more gameplay for my cash and more importantly more fun gameplay.

So my advice is feel free to take a break it can be a positive thing.

I just learned that there´s a new interview with DB out there. He said something like "PlayStation 4 players actually join us at a great time, because we’re just at the beginning of the real story flow."

So who knows what´s coming...

I'm with the op. I'm still having fun in my Inara wing, but outside the game. I still occasionally log in to complete things like a full powerplay module collection. But actual playing has stopped for me for weeks now. My main game has become Black Desert Online.

I was a very hardcore ED player for the first few years. Around 8 weeks in game time. Haven't played in around 9 months. Highly recommended! The less you play the easier it is not to play and the more you look at the bigger picture of Elite Dangerous and all of its placeholders and flaws. I'm staying away until something substantial that develops core gameplay is added.

Agreed... After two years of playing solidly, I realised about a year+ ago I was almost "trying" to find things to do and reason to play, rather than really wanting to play?

I set myself the goal of doing my Distant Disc mission, and on returning from that, my time in game as been intermittent. Indeed, I docked in the station (shown in that video) and didn't even do anything for many weeks :)

More recently I noticed I was often only playing to improvement my standing (financial and engineering up) solely in the hope that should the game "improve" and I could then use those assets. And it then dawned on me, given the track record of two years, what I perceived as "improvements" (eg: Wings and Planetary Landings) were the exception to the rule...

I'm now basically out of the game... And as multi-crew seems rather limp/questionable to me (just like Powerplay, CQC, Passengers, SLF, The Engineers), 2.3 won't bring me back. Which leaves either 2.4 or 3.0 to give me hope...

And I suspect 2.4 won't have anything significant in it, as FD will instead want to put their new shiney stuff in 3.0 for new sales... So all my hope is now on 3.0 for a sign that FD are intent on evolving the game into something deeper, and are not still fixated on just bolting more and more mini-games on.

I do this when I go exploring: I make my own missions, my own purpose, my own “content”. You kind of have to as an explorer in Elite because there isn’t much in the way of game mechanics to give you purpose otherwise. I try to get as high or low on the galactic plane at wherever I am, or out as far on the galactic fringe as I can, or I go hunting for ringed ELW’s or AW’s, or potato landable rocky ice worlds, or I decide to head out screenshot hunting to find more nice candidates for my PC’s screensaver (I also use Space Engine for this). I’ve tried geyser hunting for dozens of hours but without any tools at all to find them it’s hugely time consuming and extremely unrewarding as a “goal”; searching any world larger than a radius of 500K is just unrealistically impossible.

Making my own missions, finding my own reasons to play, has been the only thing keeping me playing Elite Dangerous this long, but the lack of actual gameplay in exploration is wearing thin for me. Trading isn’t much better, and mining gets boring after doing it for too long, Passengers has been fun but I can’t stand doing it all the time, so since combat isn’t really my thing, well, yeah, lol.
