I was a very hardcore ED player for the first few years. Around 8 weeks in game time. Haven't played in around 9 months. Highly recommended! The less you play the easier it is not to play and the more you look at the bigger picture of Elite Dangerous and all of its placeholders and flaws. I'm staying away until something substantial that develops core gameplay is added.
Agreed... After two years of playing solidly, I realised about a year+ ago I was almost "trying" to find things to do and reason to play, rather than really wanting to play?
I set myself the goal of doing my
Distant Disc mission, and on returning from that, my time in game as been intermittent. Indeed, I docked in the station (shown in that video) and didn't even do anything for many weeks
More recently I noticed I was often only playing to improvement my standing (financial and engineering up) solely in the hope that should the game "improve" and I could then use those assets. And it then dawned on me, given the track record of two years, what I perceived as "improvements" (eg: Wings and Planetary Landings) were the exception to the rule...
I'm now basically out of the game... And as multi-crew seems rather limp/questionable to me (just like Powerplay, CQC, Passengers, SLF, The Engineers), 2.3 won't bring me back. Which leaves either 2.4 or 3.0 to give me hope...
And I suspect 2.4 won't have anything significant in it, as FD will instead want to put their new shiney stuff in 3.0 for new sales... So all my hope is now on 3.0 for a sign that FD are intent on evolving the game into something deeper, and are not still fixated on just bolting more and more mini-games on.
