Heh come one EU citizens be happy for us, regardless of your sulking AND your boaring complaining in a feeble and petulant way, followed up by a LONG deep moaning. We did not leave you on the edge of the Abyss, that was you who could not be bothered to reform the EU dictatorship, so one final word to you ALL.

I have always had reservations about a federalist Europe.

I'd always wondered if/when it would come apart. I'd questioned if the hooks of federalism were strong enough to keep it together.

Without the unified identity, I'd always thought it would be met with widespread resentment.

Did they move too quickly? Did they ask for too much change before the benefits of earlier legislation were widely accepted?

IMO, federalism works best when it remains limited and moves slowly.

Just some observations of an outsider.

Go to switzerland. Horsemeat is a delicacy there. Some parts of western germany, too. It's actually like beef, just even less fat.

Problem is that they re-labeled and re-labeled expired meat and in the end ground it into lasagna. Not very nice.

I remember the scandal. I've also eaten horse before, just not in a lasagna. It's... actually too strongly flavoured for me in general. Ok in a salami, of course.

Pretty much all of the larger European states are federalist.
Heck, Switzerland (not EU) has 4 distinct languages.
The often decried "cultural differences" in the smalles of areas are mindboggling and people get along just fine (after we stopped shooting each other).

Nah, it's really just some of the Brits thinking they still have colonies overseas.

Being able to travel freely, not worry about currency exchanges, etc. It's pretty great.

The single market is working well, and the EU has a strong voice in the efforts to save ourselves from the climate disruption.

The UK was ever the hesitant bride, demanding preferential treatment. I suspect this will be for the best, in the long run.

Nope it's not colonies it is called the commonwealth, countries who wanted independence from the UK and said, "We dont want to leave you we just want our countries back" and so they formed the commonwealth who now are talking about creating the biggest trading block in the world. Former colonies now wanting the UK to come back to them. No other former Empire in human history had such friends who were former colonies. Yep, the UK future and trading will be far better than when we were in the EU and the EU know it. Jealous gits.

And they can't start trade negotiations with any other power, or nations until the negotiation with EU is ended, and there can't be any deal before 3 years. If UK trying to negotiate with anyone behind the back of EU? The negotiations immediately ending, and they left without a deal. Just as i said... The roughest scenario what you can imagine.

I'm not really talking about getting along. In my personal opinion, Federalism on a large scale is something to be strictly defined and limited. Resentment is a quick response to a large federal government. To use an American example, people in Iowa don't want to feel like they are being ruled by coastal interests. However, there is value that comes from federalism. Universal rights, common sense regulations and military strength are things I think it provides well.

Of course, I've haven't been convinced one way or the other, yet. What I'm seeing play out now, and knowing the widespread resentment of the EU that I hear about doesn't give great marks for the EU's experiment. I continue to watch and wait.

Yes that is what we will tell them, we are NOT starting trade talks and countries wanting to trade with us will say nothing, wake up. ....lol

The EU will not know what the UK gets up to behind closed doors and our friends across the world will say nothing to the EU, as they despise them for making threats to us. EU still does not get it, the UK has friends across the world who will back us.

The EU is actually well thought of by the majority of the people living in it. Don't buy into the propaganda.

<sighs> We've been through this.....

Besides the fact the UK already has trading links with commonwealth countries (where do you think the EU gets it's bananas from....Italy?)

"Empire 2.0" (aka the commonwealth) will be the biggest trading block in the world by population only.

By GDP it's nowhere close to the EU ($15tn - the UK) at around $7.5tn

The UK, Canada and Australia make up over half of the commonwealth GDP of $10tn.

In addition to being a good deal poorer than the EU it's also further away.

The commonwealth is in no way a substitute for the EU.

If you work in anything that can be "offshored" then be really afraid.

Inside the EU you had to worry about your job being sent to eastern Europe where the average wage was around 1/3rd of the UK but at least the companies still had to adhere to the same basic environmental, worker and health and safety regulations as the UK.

In Empire 2.0 you'll have worry about it being sent to India where the average wage is 1/10th the UKs and there are no worker, H&S or environmental regulations.

Then why is that majority failing to own the narrative?

because "Empty vessels make the most noise" as my gran used to say....

Of course, that's going on the assumption that worker's conditions in the UK still won't be quite at those levels by then.
