How very PC of Frontier....

This shouldn't be seen as anything new for Frontier. Michael Brookes' novel Elite: Legacy introduced a gay couple of ex-bounty hunters crewing a Lakon 7 in the first chapter.

Hm, it's about as "unusual" as those occasional lines from Faction Contacts in the Mission board "Oh, CMDR [Name], I have your Holo-Image next to my bed. I hope you don't find that too irritating."

I take it these things are perceived very differently, depending on the person (and cultural background) that views it. Completely normal.

What sleutelbos and Enderby just said. Times change thankfully. My kids have friends that have two mums and no-one bats an eyelid. The internet is a breeding ground for SJW's, I'll grant you that, but this just isn't an example of that.

Just because no one bats an eyelid don`t mean they don`t think it`s wrong or makes it right.

IKR.... It's much better than being XBOX... Oh wait... (looks at dodgy interior rendering of Sidewinder)...

A white dwarf cooked your crew member? The pc term is 'caucasian midget with Cannibalistic Dietary Disorder'...

I remember my uncle was very PC... He said... "Oy! You can't go round calling them dwarves or midgets; You have to call them 'People of Restricted Growth.... Or Porgs for short.'

Sorry, it was a turn of phrase. Just to be clear, no-one thinks it's wrong, and it is right. The kids are happy, well adjusted and well aware that most people have a mum and a dad. I'd imagine that by 3300 we'll all be grown in vats or come from spores or something.

Yeah but it's not wrong, is it? Anyone thinking it was wrong would be wrong. It's part of life's rich tapestry. Always has been, always will be.

There is't a single person in this world that lives a life that no one thinks is wrong.

Eat bacon - someone thinks you're wrong.
Have a drink - someone thinks you're wrong.
Believe in good - someone thinks you're wrong.
Don't believe in good - someone thinks you're wrong.
Play a video game - someone thinks you're wrong.
Kill a player in a video game - someone thinks you're wrong.
Grow a beard - someone thinks you're wrong.

Probably better not to worry to much about other people think is wrong.

Ok, well... here's me and my Bubble-burster 10k...

This really isn't a matter of pushing anyone's agenda, nor anything more or less than:

The "flavor" text of NPC's is cobbled together mad-libs style from a table of entries, designed to give the illusion, no matter how flimsy, that each of these NPC's has their own story.
Look at enough of them and you'll see these same bits of recycled dialog over and over again.

It just so happens that RNGesus will line up the dialog in such a way that female NPC's will have had wives, male NPC's will have had husbands, and so what? They're NPC's anyways. Nothing more than a collection of pixels and AI routines anyways.

As a gay man, I long for the day this kind of thing isn't worthy of being seen as "news."

As a straight man, I long for the day this kind of thing isn't worthy of being seen as "news" as well. No one should care who loves who, how, where, why, when - it's really not any of anyone else's business anyways and it's not a big deal. It's not even a little deal. Hell, it's not a deal at all. People so need to learn the art of minding their own business. Granted, I get the whole social engineering aspect of it - to get people to accept something they are not accustomed to accepting means you have to shove it in their faces at every opportunity until they simply stop reacting at all. Hollywood and the media have been doing this for quite some time, and are not going to relent, unless it starts costing them too much money - at which time they will switch they position to "The only reason the rest of you aren't spending your money on us is because you still hate us" because that's what the mindset for them is.

I'd really just like to be treated as anyone else--which doesn't mean being put up on a pedestal every time some gay character gets found in a video game. So what? It's great we're being represented, but that's enough; it doesn't need to be announced.

Still, I, personally, appreciate the find, OP.

Seems we're pretty much in agreement here - I've seen these since day one of NPC crew and never bothered to post it and rub folks noses in it because it's pretty much an open invitation to the rest of world "Hey, come show us what a _____hole you can act like." Nobody needs that.

Thankfully people like DocPossible raise their kids properly so they understand its not wrong. And Thank God religious people dont get to enforce their 'values' on other people as much as some of them once did. :p

Except for certain organizations in the middle east, and at least one small church of inbreds in the US.

Wait, no three-way social contracts either? How polygamophobic of them...
I'm pretty sure in the future they figured out that state-sponsored benefits for mutual affection, but only if it's two people who are not closely related, doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

And by the way, I share SeaFireliv's sentiment, even though it's just a random name with a random picture and a random text.

Poly-relationships are out there. At least they were in FFE. ;)

Ancient civilisations didn't care about same sex relationships. Only when certain religions came along people started getting all worried about it.
Actually i would think that marriage would have vanished in 1000 years. Who knows what society will be like in the future. Think how different we are now compared to just 100 years ago.

Partially true, but pretty much all ancient civilisations also cared in a special way for relationships that are biologically capable of generating offspring. Because - you know - they appreciated their continued existence.

Of course the process of making babies will probably be different in 1000 years, but the principle is here to stay.

No one said that they weren't heterosexual relationships... Just that there was also homosexual relationships and that it is nothing new. There always have been and always will.

I think it might have been PC 10 or 15 years ago, but it's not particularly radical these days.

Yeah seems weird. I mean CQC was hated on last year so why we're still going on about it this year I don't know....

:p

I think nearly all of those female pilots look like lesbians. Oh, dear, that's not very politically correct statement...

Actually I reckon the reason so many of these characters have shaved hair in the 34th century is they have a problem with lice, must be that.

LOL having known and still know a surprising number of lesbians I can tell you they look nothing like the woman pictured above.

So people only get together to make babies? Not for companionship, like very old couples who marry? Or infertile people?
We're not really having a population shortage at the moment either are we 😅

People get together for any number of reasons, but among them making babies is the one more relevant to society; one for which it makes sense to support with public funds.
And of course while there is a cap for how many people a given planet can support, even when the population should decrease it's about making less of them, not stop completely.
